I think when we went into this game there was an expectation we would trounce the Dogs. This didn't happen. I think there will be a degree of overreaction at the result because of this despite the fact we ended up with a win and a decent margin.

What may get overlooked is just how well the Dogs performed tonight. They were hard and they spread really well which caused us some issues. It also fails to take into consideration the hit that our midfield has taken with the absence of Ball, Thomas and Blair two of which are in the top four best mids at the club. You know you have issues when you are playing Buckley at the centre bounces. When you consider this I think the performance showed a lot of grit and was a really gutsy.

There were some big positives out of this game. Cloke and Swan worked their way through poor starts to really influence the game. Sinclair finally showed some reward for his effort. His determination was exceptional and he really provided a lot of defensive pressure which stifled the Dogs. Some will highlight his holding the ball but remember that Djerkurra was coming off the bench and Sinclair was unsighted. A few mistakes aside Sinclair was great tonight.

Dawes was also a huge positive. Ball mentioned in the pregame that his work effort has been huge and that reward was around the corner if he kept at it. This proved true. He took som fantastic marks and worked his arse off tonight. If we could wring that out of him each week I would be a happy man.

I thought Buckley was also much improved but I was still disappointed. He let Higgins get away at the start which set the Dogs up for the game. He made some silly mistakes after doing all the hard work. But I think we need to recognise that he put in a performance that showed improvement and promise. It probably deserves another crack at senior level on the balance. I'm sceptical he will take advantage of it if it comes his way but I think he should get the opportunity.

Wood was shite against shite opponents. He broke out at less than even which against those opponents aint good enough IMO.

As a team effort I thought we tried really hard, applied pressure well and in patches showed how good we can be. I think we were shown up for midfield depth but this should ease with the return of some players.

On its measure a positive performance.

Happy with the win in the end, and while it may have been ugly at times, we got what we wanted, a win.

Beams was bloody good, him and Steele are forming a great partnership.

Reid is a backman, we know that now.

Wood was ok, has to get better to be Jols long tern replacement though.

4-2, I'll take that.

Bit harsh on Woody there Quicky. He held his own with Will Minson in the hit outs (33 apiece), and while he didn't do enough around the ground, he seemed to show a little aggression in the last quarter, which was a factor in our win.

Besides, he's one o Clokely's best mates at the club, so I want him to remain at Pieland for 2013 at least.;)

Quicky, this is exactly what i wanted to say

You put it perfectly.

Firstly credit to the Dogs, they were great tonight and made it bloody hard for us. I think this win can't be underrated, we came up against good opposition and kept on grinding until we finally broke their backs.

Beams was BOG for mine, a lot of his work goes unnoticed but he is a star, inside and outside he has it all.

Pendles good as always, along with Swan and Steele, great contributors.

I thought Clarke, Shaw and even Buckley off half back were great, providing run and setting up attacks. Yes Bucks had that one clanger in the third but besides that he racked up 30 and broke the lines well, his best game for the club!

Up forward Sinclair was great, his pressure was second to none and his disposal tonight, especially in close, was faultless.

Also thumbs up to Clokey, he was well held up to half time (on 4 DT points!) but he responded in the second half, started marking them and kicked 2 goals.

I think Fasolo has a lot of work to do if he wants to retain his spot, he struggled tonight as did Sharrod.

Overall, a very tough win..

I think Wood does enough in the ruck to stop the opposition ruck from handing it to their mids on a platter. They may get a lot of taps against him but they aren't clear cut centre breaks as a result.

Not the margin we wanted but got the result we needed. Will cop a bagging in the media but as mentioned earlier the dogs played well. Will take 4-2 in a heart beat.

Has anyone heard what happened to Ben Johnson?Someone said he hurt his shoulder, but i don't know how serious it is.Channel 7 didn't mention him once after he went off,so it's hard to get any information about him.

Keeffe excellent once again, wherever he played. I still have no friggin idea what that free was against him, wtf was that? I was just sat there shaking my head in disbelief. Umpiring all night was like that, just bordering on ridiculous. We have a bit of a dilemma, do we play him forward, back, in the ruck? Good problem to have though.

Well done to Sinclair who showed some real signs, his pressure was immense and his closing speed is impressive. Loved that he finally hit the scoreboard. That little kick on the outside that bounced up for Reid's goal was nice.

I feel like in some ways we're not far off getting back to playing top four footy, I just don't exactly know what the "spark" is. Maybe it's getting used to the gameplan, maybe it's about building momentum, maybe it's about belief and confidence, but we seem to be doing everything right but belt teams. Looking forward to the likes of Tarrant and Thomas rounding out the side but I feel like we really need a big win just to get us into the groove. That said the Bulldogs were pretty tough tonight, they just don't have a forward line to speak of.

Best tonight were Beams, Pendles, Sidebottom, Shaw and Keeffe.

No more trialing Reid in the forward line he just isnt a forward! Put Keefe on the wing as a lead up target to keep Cloke and Dawes deep that seemed to work towards the end of the game.

Good grinding win by the boys tonight considering the players we had out from the core mid field.

Anyone know what happened to Johnson? Or was he just subbed off without incident?

Fasolo wont play next week he was really labouring towards the end of the game but put in some good efforts at critical times in the match

Where is the love for Benny Sinclair?

His harassment and forward pressure was fantastic again and had numerous score involvements throughout the night. Had the one minor blimp when he should have kicked instead of bouncing the ball but I really like him. Love the little nugget! :thumbsu:

Thought Reid was more than fine up forward, but then he went back and I just thought "he has to play in the backline". Gets a fist in and reads the ball beautifully. And Keeffe was great up forward but I'd hate for the club to start throwing him forward and back 6 times throughout a game. Will just play with the big fella mentally I reckon.

Bests: Beams, Pendlebury, Clarke, Shaw, Reid, Keeffe and Sidebottom.

Also, cant believe Swanny had close to 30 touches. Barely sighted him in the first half

Over on Nick's, one poster is suggesting it might ba an AC and 10 weeks . Hope not, and they're a bit sensationalist at times there, so it may be BS.

I had to listen to the game on radio and larkins said it was a AC and the shoulder was loose.

It was a good win and we did what we had to.

I am loving Keefe's form at the moment, he never seems to put a foot wrong. With him performing well we now have an embarrassment of tall defenders.

Beams' performance tonight was top class, we were looking for someone to step into Ball's role and he exceeded all of the requirements for that role tonight.

Another thing i liked tonight was Wellingham's attack off the edge of the center square. There were multiple times when he crashed the pack and had an impact on the contest. It will be good to get him back into full time midfield rotations

Disagree on Reid. Very hasty opinion. He wasn't great but he wasn't poor either. I feel he needs to learn the role better. If he can stick some of those marks... we know he can. That said Keeffe was really encouraging up forward in the last quarter and half after the switch was made. He seems high on confidence which is great. Plenty of KP depth is a great problem to have!
