So by my reckoning, there's 8 guys who wouldn't have been considered Best 22 at the beginning of last season, who will be out there on Sunday:

O'Sullivan, Dempsey, Humphries, Neale, Mannagh, Clark, Mullin, and now Wiltshire.

Admittedly there's been a few injuries but that's a pretty amazing turnover for a 'contender' team.

Three ins and no Duncan means he's clearly a backup player only. He will get his 4 games to get to 300 (probably against wce and Richmond x2 and one other) but that's basically it. Clearly he's going to stay in the vfl apart from that
Agree on Henry, he is a great sharpshooter but he needs to contribute in other ways.
What if he is, according to MC & CS?
Maybe by clearing a pathway for Danger et al to do their stuff.
He was definitely dragging Siciliy away from the action for periods there, not that. Sicily is in great form, but there probably is not much space for OH to do what he did last year with the form and and methods of action that Danger has.
Talking about decoys sounds far fetched but I know for sure it happens.

It will be either him or Clark and I would argue Clark needs the full games more.
OH might be sub again.. last year he was subbed on 2x (rd 18/19) and subbed off once, and ended up coming 8th in our B&F.

I don't think Duncan gets to 300 I think Scott knows the value of 4 point and won't risk them for one players milestone I hope he takes the same attitude with Cam Guthrie as well and bring him back through the 2s and only promote him if he's killing it, none of the preferential treatment Jack Steven got trying to run him into form at AFL level.

Duncan will get to 300. He's one of the greatest clubmen, and I daresay has not had any issue at all playing in the VFL this year while the younger ones come through.

We can just play him as sub in nothing games against WC, Richmond x 2 and North. He's definitely earned that after all he's done over the past 15+ years.

Mark Blake entered 2011 needing a solitary game to reach the 100 game milestone - we debuted Vardy, took another look at Dawson Simpson, gave Hawkins a run in the ruck and then late in the season settled on West to partner Ottens

We've seen in the past we'll look past sentimentality; I would be surprised if Duncan doesn't play the 4 games required, but he does look a fair way from selection based on what we've seen from him

Chris Scott was a lot more ruthless with players that weren't his. I have been pleasantly surprised they haven't picked Duncan, I think I had him as the 23rd player in my pre season best team just purely based on them selecting him on seniority. I still expect they will wheel him out against the bottom 3 teams to get to 300, otherwise they might as well have just pulled stumps at the end of last year.

O'Sullivan, Dempsey and Humphries are the only ones who look guaranteed 22. Neale is being every opportunity because of his height. Mannagh is a mixed bag, Clark has been disappointing, Mullin still an experiment, No idea about Wiltshire.

One thing about Duncan is you get a reliable contributor off the interchange. You couldn't say that about the interchange chosen for tomorrow's game. OHenry and Clark? A slowing down Duncan is way in front of them.

Neale and Mannagh are as guaranteed best 22 as it gets. Mullin, despite our protestations, basically is as well.

I think Neale's height abs the great difficulty we would have finding a key forward to replace him makes him a guaranteed b22 as well. I think Mannagh was rushed back a bit early but he's a lock.

That last sentence couldn’t be further from the truth. Firstly Duncan isn’t slowing down he’s genuinely cooked. Secondly he’s a net negative on the field , an out of form Henry and Clark offer way more which is why they actually play

Game looks to have passed Duncan by judging from what I’ve seen of him in the VFL. Struggles to get down to ground balls, kicking (which was his absolute strength) is now more inconsistent with him having less time. I’m not sure he will get to 300 without a few more unavailable.

I think keeping him on was the right decision even if he doesn't play again though. Like having a playing coach in the 2s

Maybe. But is having a playing coach who cant hit the side of a barn detrimental?

I can only guess they gave him another year to see if he could come good. And so far, thats a no.
I dont see 300 happening.

My biggest concern with Duncan isn't his loss of leg speed or not having the same penetration on his kicks, but it's the indecision & lack of awareness that's really crept in this year - if he's struggling with those aspects in the VFL, how would he stepping up to the seniors, with the increased speed and intensity

The moment I questioned a few things when Duncan was watching him get caught holding the ball in the first quarter of the VFL last week where he's taken an uncontested mark on our half forward area, with two clear options - play on and get the ball deep into our 50, or go back and hit up a target, but instead he dances on the spot where he's caught holding the ball

The question I've asked myself since then has been, if he finished last season with say less than 290 games against his name - so needing 10+ rather than 4, would he have retired or played on hoping to push towards 300?

Clangers in the vfl don't cost afl goals. He cant do, but he can still teach.

Was worth a shot trying to get him back out there but plan b looks OK to me

Is any of that awareness and indecision maybe resisted to not having the team mates with awareness and ability to run to position? Effective disposals take two to tango.

He might have better awareness and decision making but then just get mown down by the speed.

Not on 2024 showings. He is horribly slow and his decision making and kicking was way below par for his standards.
