Gee I hope not, but if true we'll have your players and sponsors! :D

Heard from a Kilmore bloke the other week that only 1-2 Broadford players would be good enough to get a game at Kilmore this year  and Im told you're doing quite ok sponsor wise so I doubt you need any of the few we have . . . .

Not necessarily Rgs011, we were a bit off the pace in 2009 and every club above us (and behind ;)) have recruited massively - probably just means that we've learnt from other clubs who in the past have spruiked over the summer and never looked like ending up in the hunt . . . . . remember the old "the time is now" campaign of 2008 :D

Anyone know where i can get a copy of the fixture to print out??
Cheers

RDFL Website has a section where a printable fixture is available.

No idea mate you seem to have forgotten my official involvement at BFNC has ceased so Im not privy to all the club news, views and gossip anymore.

Heard a rumour that Former Riddells Creek onballer Marcus Powell is coming back to the area..... by all reports he has gotten bigger and plays with a little more gusto any chance of Riddell Distict Club picking him up?

Just a question without notice please if I may. You may or may not be able to answer this one, but anyway……..

With respect to the 2010 Fixture, is seeding the draw ever taken into consideration ?

I noticed with interest that in the recently released 2010 Fixture the sides that finished outside the Finals in 2009 are rostered to play those that finished inside the top six a disproportionate number of times.
For example, Kilmore & Broadford are scheduled to play 09 top six finishers on 11 occasions, Melton & Rockbank are due too on 10.
Whilst Riddell, Lancefield & Woodend only have to do it 8 times….. & even more perplexing is Diggers Rest, who only have to play an 09 finalist this season on 7 occasions ! (That should virtually guarantee them a spot in the 2010 Finals )

Would’nt seeding the draw –

1. Give the lower placed sides from the previous season a better chance of advancement ?
2. Even up the competition ?
3. Give hope to the lower sides & their supporters ?
4. Increase game attendance numbers ?
5. Put more $$$$ into ALL Clubs coffers ?
6. Be in the Leagues best interests ?

In my Fixturing Model -

I’d like to see the top 6 from the previous season play each other in the first & last 5 rounds of the season, then fill the middle 8 rounds up with the cross over matches. Making a total of 18 home & away rounds.
Is this a fair & reasonable way of doing the Draw ?

Thoughts anyone ???

Hey Mate, we were given the chance to nominate significant games, local rivalries etc. What the league tried to do was take a broader (2 year) view of creating an 'even' fixture. The theory goes that each team will play the others an equal amount of times over two seasons.

I don't think they considered ladder position at all.

Our draw is great isn't it?

I see what you are saying, that it looks like some teams get an easy ride in the fixturing.

2009 was a very even comp, just look at the finnals , and any team from 1-7 could have won the Grand final IMO.

By doing what you suggest , playing the top 6 from the previous season play each other in the first & last 5 rounds of the season is a bad idea :

1) It would be playing the top teams in a 5-10 week period, at the end of year including finals.( in other words 10 week finals for some teams.

2) It ain't the AFL , local clubs lose players from year to year so the could have a very bad the next year.( getting smacked in the first 5 weeks and worse in the last five weeks)

3) Club's should earn the right to play final's.( not be given free rides and easy outs , so the 7th placed team would make it into the top 2 the next year)

4) A bottom 7 side scrapes into the top six, they have only played the top 5 teams once in the year. .( love to see this finnal )

Youve done some homework there. I must admit i read the draw and was a bit disappointed that the kangas have 10 games this season against top 6 sides. However i think little champ summed it up. The draw runs for two seasons. The kangas had a relatively easy draw last year, and as a result its a bit tougher this year. Irrespective of all this, teams get better and worse each year and its hard to know who the best 6 are before a game is played. But if your team is good enough you should make the finals anyway:thumbsu:

Hey I'm not "Married" to the order of my draw. The most important part of the concept IS, that all the top six sides from the previous season MUST play each other at least twice in the next following season.... in any order ! (Answers your point 1&2)

Losing players can still happen with ANY Fixturing including this seasons current draw. And conversely Teams can also be given a "Free Ride", like it appears Diggers are receiving this season ! (Answers 2&3)

& As for your 4th point........That can STILL happen ANY Season ! Including this seasons Fixture !

I understand that without having 22 Rounds the formulation of the Fixture can be an extremely difficult process. But if we believe that a Strong Even Competition is something worth striving for, then there is a compelling argument for "seeding" the Draw. The "Pro's" FAR outweigh the "Con's" !

Didn't the best teams make the finals last year?...

itd be fair to say diggers were on the opposite side of the fence regarding last years draw though

Very rare that clubs go BANG and lodge em on Feb 1 - many wont wanna play their hands for some time yet.

Sheesh.. Its 8.03am.. Where are all the clearances.. What are these slack clubs doing... :p

showing your hand early or late, does it really matter? most clubs generally know who has recruited, most clubs would have signed players prior to clearance dates. do clubs look at who has been recruited and then go, gee they have picked up a gun forward we better go find a gun backman, etc. I would think the ship is already sailing.
You are right though, but i have seen in the past clearances get mucked around and the player misses the first few games.

Last year it was the sporting pulse website that wasn't updated asap. so who knows it could take a week before you see a clearance. also some clubs requested that clearances not be on the page.
