Out of the kids i have already mentioned wazza and stace (very good players) and jubes and hegarty (stars in the making). I think sam could possibly step up to very good. Brendan Fennell and Jim Forrest are both top quality players who will both walk into the side if they play, both are only 19 but the only question will be how they handle senior footy as fennell has only played a few games and forrest has been playing 19's amateurs. Taylor is a very smart player who will fit in nicely, as will young goodyear. Germaine is great at winning the ball but lacks skills and smarts when he gets it. Arnold and eastly i'm not sure yet as with Hudson. I think someone like nick rilen could be good in a year or 2 as well as he is reasonably tall and mobile
Woodend do definately have a quality future if they can hold on to the younger guys.. I think both they and the Kangaroos are in the same position at the moment, with quality young footballers who could take the sides a long way in the future. The team whose younger guys develop into senior footballers will be the side that challenges for the top.. Bowen, Stacey, Jermaine etc have taken the first step, can they go on under the pressure. Welsh, Ellery, Watson and Baddelly have done the same, with probably Baddelly and Watson having the most impact last year for the Roos. As in both times they played each other last year, the battles between these two teams this year and in coming years will be great to watch.. Who will reach the top of the mountain first?bigboy05 said:

This may sound biased but i think woodend are probably just ahead now, there young players are more numerous (i think), one or two years younger yet at a similar level and probably fill more positions on the ground. Wazza and possibly hudo(key position back), jubes and germaine (on-baller), stace (ruck), sam and goodyear (utility) perhaps only missing a key forward. From what i know of Sunbury Welsh (back flank and i rate him very highly in that floater role he plays), ellery (midfield/foward pocket), baddelly (taller utility?) and i don't know watson.
Don't forget the Macedon kids though, some talent there although i here vella and gould are both chances to be playing with their mates at woodsie this year.
One more interesting thing will be if the Riddell kids step up. Woodend won the flag 2 years ago and only hegarty and wazza now play regular senior football, all our good players come out of the one we drew/lost.

Think you are pretty close to the mark actually.. My concern is the body size of the woodend kids. Apart from Stacey they are slight of size. Welsh was injured most of this season, Watson rucked all year on his own, Ellery came back from a knee injury and Baddelly impressed according to some after starting the year slowly. Add to that guys such as Garth Ploog, Rick Scott and dont forget players such as Yarwood who are only 22 or 23 themselves. But once again, key position is the difficult. But believe they have a pretty good mix there.. The backline at the Kangas was strong all year. Anyone disagree with that?bigboy05 said:

I think footyhead may be a bit over optimistic about the gun EDFL footballer. There are always rumours about gun players getting picked up at this stage of the year. For instance Duff-tyler has been linked to Woodend (and he does turn up to watch our games sometimes so he must have some sort of link) but i can't see him coming even though it would be great if he did. It's unlikely that people who are on big money are going to take significant pay cuts and move to what is a lets be honest 'weaker league' than the EDFL, DVFL or the BFL.
Bit tough on Garth, I think when his confidence is up he is a tough player to match up on. Really looking forward to watching the development of both of these sides in the next couple of years... As well as the development of a side like Rockbank, who I think will be improvers this year.bigboy05 said:
Agree centrals are rather old and large, and lancefield seem to be just clinging on. Don't think Rockbank will improve much this year though, i think in local leagues it is just as much about club culture as it is players. Sunbury are just starting to break through with both Rockbank don't look overly close on either.
Actually, the people around the club and the culture are as good as any team in the comp at Rockbank... Agree the players they have are not quite up to it, but as far as I have seen there it is quite a good club to be around.. The committee work extremely hard to create that and they have great support from people around the small community.bigboy05 said:

I can't remeber whether I read it on this thread or not, but was Ben Harrison (Ex Richmond & Bulldogs) linked with a Bendigo FL club, maybe Gisborne.
I heard he was tied to a VAFA club that his wife's family has strong links to.

quite interesting that ben harrison wood want to play for sunbury.. he wood be a handy player for them but he is a washed up AFL without making a impact in the big league
He played 160 games of AFL footy despite a number of knee reconstructions.That is a massive effort.He would dominate any suburban or country league IMO.vantheman32 said:

kilmore will be the dark horse next season, i hope they can put in a really good showing and build for a successful 2007. Robbo gettin a big pre season in and a few younger fellas wif a pre season under the belt, ive gone down 2 coburg for pre season but dont have a chance of making it

Rowsell to lead Bombers in 2006
Darren "Scooter" Rowsell will take over as coach of 2005 Premiers Riddell next season. Rowsell will replace Premiership Coach Colin Gadsden, who did not seek reappointment.
Rowsell was Assistant Coach this year to Gadsden and formerly coached the club in 1998. He is well known to the Bomber faithful having played 200 senior games, winning two Best & Fairests and appearing in two premiership teams.
Rowsell has played 320 senior games of football including stints at Williamstown (VFA) and Gisborne.
Premiership Captain Jay Allen will increase his responsibilities by becoming an assistant coach in 2006.
The Bombers are confident that Col Gadsden will remain as a player for next season and are believed to be close to re-signing Bowen Medallist Lee James for 2006 despite the gun forward being the target of some big offers from metro and country clubs.
