woodsmen said:BigBoy, who do u think out of those youngsters will take the next step this year and really lift woodend up a notch, also can you see any club champions in the making in any of these kids. If i had some money geez i would jump on the Hawks bandwagon at the moment and become a sponsor.
Woodend do definately have a quality future if they can hold on to the younger guys.. I think both they and the Kangaroos are in the same position at the moment, with quality young footballers who could take the sides a long way in the future. The team whose younger guys develop into senior footballers will be the side that challenges for the top.. Bowen, Stacey, Jermaine etc have taken the first step, can they go on under the pressure. Welsh, Ellery, Watson and Baddelly have done the same, with probably Baddelly and Watson having the most impact last year for the Roos. As in both times they played each other last year, the battles between these two teams this year and in coming years will be great to watch.. Who will reach the top of the mountain first?bigboy05 said:If you look at my team Hudson wasn't,probably needs more experience and to develop his body more in it for one, and two if you look at my ladder i only had them fourth only two places higher than they finished last year. I think you can add Josh Hegarty to the future stars and players like Wazza Else (full-back/centre-halfback/runner up B&F) and Matt Stacey (#1 ruck at club and still with one year left eligible for 18's might not be stars but will be 10 year very high quality players.

Think you are pretty close to the mark actually.. My concern is the body size of the woodend kids. Apart from Stacey they are slight of size. Welsh was injured most of this season, Watson rucked all year on his own, Ellery came back from a knee injury and Baddelly impressed according to some after starting the year slowly. Add to that guys such as Garth Ploog, Rick Scott and dont forget players such as Yarwood who are only 22 or 23 themselves. But once again, key position is the difficult. But believe they have a pretty good mix there.. The backline at the Kangas was strong all year. Anyone disagree with that?bigboy05 said:I think u r right roge. This may sound biased but i think woodend are probably just ahead now, there young players are more numerous (i think), one or two years younger yet at a similar level and probably fill more positions on the ground. Wazza and possibly hudo(key position back), jubes and germaine (on-baller), stace (ruck), sam and goodyear (utility) perhaps only missing a key forward. From what i know of Sunbury Welsh (back flank and i rate him very highly in that floater role he plays), ellery (midfield/foward pocket), baddelly (taller utility?) and i don't know watson.
Don't forget the Macedon kids though, some talent there although i here vella and gould are both chances to be playing with their mates at woodsie this year.
One more interesting thing will be if the Riddell kids step up. Woodend won the flag 2 years ago and only hegarty and wazza now play regular senior football, all our good players come out of the one we drew/lost.
You probably know more about Sunbury than me though so feel free to respond. Most of my knowledge is woodend

Bit tough on Garth, I think when his confidence is up he is a tough player to match up on. Really looking forward to watching the development of both of these sides in the next couple of years... As well as the development of a side like Rockbank, who I think will be improvers this year.bigboy05 said:I think the Sunbury backline was quite strong. I would like to see welsh on one back flank and niki on the other like he played a couple of years ago, how attacking would that be, hard to stop. On rick scott and garth don't rate garth very high because him versus else was like the key match in 18's a year ago and each time garth got towelled up, too slow and wasn't strong enough to over power else. Rick scott on the other hand is quite handy, quick with good hands. Probably not strong enough to play centre half foward but maybe leading out of full foward or on a flank. Remember also that Johnno (co-captain) is only 22 as is tacker and even digger who seems to have been around forever would be only 24/5.
Should be to great games this year, could decide a spot in the finals. Who knows they might both sneak in and it could be 4 v 5 in the first week
Sorry to Footyhead, but I do believe that Lancefield will be the sliders of the comp this year along with Centrals.bigboy05 said:I think footyhead may be a bit over optimistic about the gun EDFL footballer. There are always rumours about gun players getting picked up at this stage of the year. For instance Duff-tyler has been linked to Woodend (and he does turn up to watch our games sometimes so he must have some sort of link) but i can't see him coming even though it would be great if he did. It's unlikely that people who are on big money are going to take significant pay cuts and move to what is a lets be honest 'weaker league' than the EDFL, DVFL or the BFL.
Actually, the people around the club and the culture are as good as any team in the comp at Rockbank... Agree the players they have are not quite up to it, but as far as I have seen there it is quite a good club to be around.. The committee work extremely hard to create that and they have great support from people around the small community.bigboy05 said:Agree centrals are rather old and large, and lancefield seem to be just clinging on. Don't think Rockbank will improve much this year though, i think in local leagues it is just as much about club culture as it is players. Sunbury are just starting to break through with both Rockbank don't look overly close on either.
Mr Dean Lupson,Tanya Lupson is Crofty's mrs.I'm not aware of a senior coach being appointed, but u may of heard more recently then tuesday nite.roge_3 said:Who is his Brother in Law? But Rowsell has been given the Riddell job.
blues12 said:I know of one bloke moving to lancefeild i wouldn't call him from the edfl
he coached rockbank cleaned them and sunbury out, dragged blokes with him to seddon yarraville coached for 2 years there got sacked at the start of last year then went some where in the edfl i believe, and that was lowey. lancefeild had better be careful if they let him into there club although it would be great to see them get cleaned out for once and slide to the bottom
I know that's not nice.
Benny MOF said:I can't remeber whether I read it on this thread or not, but was Ben Harrison (Ex Richmond & Bulldogs) linked with a Bendigo FL club, maybe Gisborne.
I heard he was tied to a VAFA club that his wife's family has strong links to.
Could somebody pls confirm or deny?
He played 160 games of AFL footy despite a number of knee reconstructions. That is a massive effort. He would dominate any suburban or country league IMO.vantheman32 said:quite interesting that ben harrison wood want to play for sunbury.. he wood be a handy player for them but he is a washed up AFL without making a impact in the big league
Ging Gang said:Ive been reading this site for a few weeks now. I do wonder where some of you blokes get your info from. For once and for all Meldrum is not playing at Macedon. He is playing again at Romsey.
Couple of things to throw into the mix.
Ben Talbot to Gisborne next year.
Steve Burlack to Romsey next year. (Apparently pretty close to Romsey Coach Kevin Fitzgerald.)
Kevin Fitzgerald will most likely coach again.
Majority of Romsey senior side will not leave the club. Infact unlikely there will be any major goings.
And is not a "GUN" EDFL footballer, or WRFL footballer in any right.. Can play pretty good footy still, but bit past being a dominating player.. In any league.rightfoot_sloth said:Blues 12 - You are right about Lowerson. Didn't do much at Seddon but ended up working with Parkside in WRFL last year. I wouldn't think Lancefield would be silly enough to appoint him to any official capacity.
Big call Van.. The guy played consistent football at the top level, and yr talking a much lower form of football, he would dominate in the BFL.vantheman32 said:quite interesting that ben harrison wood want to play for sunbury.. he wood be a handy player for them but he is a washed up AFL without making a impact in the big league
