Great effort by both Diggers and Woodend players yesterday! Congratluations to Diggers. Woodend should be very proud of their year, coming from out of the eight last year to getting as close as you can to making a Grandfinal. And for those who said that Woodend play a boring style of footy-Hope they were watching the game yesterday! Two best finals so far have been the Diggers and Woodend clashes.

Both sides need to be congratulated on a magnificent game of footy .Lefties goal to level the scores was magic .That got the Burrah crowd really firing and it carried the boys over the line.:D :D :D

Are you serious Woody??? Just because the game was a tie, doesn't make a sides style of play not boring.... Jimmy Forrest kept the game alive and breathing in the first half.

As for Diggers.. What can I say, told ya so... Lefty is easily the most exciting player in the finals series... Haven't seen the best players yet, but he is a major reason that the Burra are still in the finals series, along with Hildebrand...

We must have been watching two completely different games T.S. The game was played at very good pace and the skills from both sides were excellent. Both teams generally moved the ball with great poise and fluency and it was tough in the clinches when needed-To me that's anything but boring footy. One thing i do agree with you is that Jimmy played a great game (all day), but there was another live wire in Funnell that kick three first half goals (a couple very good) that kept the game exciting. Leftie played a reasonable game, and did kick a great goal at the end but i think Karl Ng did a pretty good job to contain him for most of the day.
Would love to see Diggers win next week in the seniors, but with three of their very good players unavailable i unfortunately can’t see this occurring. Is their any chance these boys will play or is it a non negotiable situation?

Most likely wont be playing. If the Diggers from last week and yesterdays second half shows up then we might be able to cover them.

I agree that the game wasnt boring. I love watching that in close and hard style of footy. Ng did a good job on Laurie early but he got away from him in the second half. Diggers were flat early and thought it was just going to happen for them (kicking for goal didn't help). Once we switched on and made it more of a contested sort of game rather than letting Woodend play there running game we got on top. Woodend incredibly stiff after being up by 2 goals with 54 seconds left. Good effort by Ruane to come back from injury and have a massive second half. Darko near on unstoppable at FF.

one thing i couldn't believe in the game was when woodend got the msg there was 2 minutes left no messages went out to players to relax and try and hold play a little, they kept attacking (not the wrong thing to do) but kicking long to 1 on 1 contests is not the best option when the game is in the balance, unfortunately i believe that cost them in the end after a turn over after one on those long kicks when a couple of players were lose only 20m away.
Bad luck to the hawks

What a day though, 3 great games, sensational ground and what about that surface, perfect, no wonder the footy was so good ! If that aint the best ground in the comp' I dont know what is. There was even an atmosphere there. Will be hard to match at Lancefield. Oh & lets not forget the Umpires they did a quallity unobtrusive job all day, [as it should be done]. Best days footy entertainment in many many years who needs the A.F.L. with their " keepings off " style of footy, we had contest after contest all day. Cant wait for the first bounce at 9.45am next sunday. I'll be the one on the fence with a Frothy in one hand & a Stiffy in the other !

IT will be all red and blue in the reserves and a match that will come down to the wire in ones.

Typical diggers, cocky, wait and see it will be a great game of reserves footy but your statement is unjust, the roos 2s are the inform side of the finals, underdogs maybe still but expect this game to be within 2 goals at the end either way.

Sorry, just read my post and it confused me... After half time the game was excellent, the crowd got involved and it made the day... The first half was boring was what I was trying to say... This week should be excellent though, really looking forward to 3 great games of football

Yer no prob' but I'm not so sure I can keep up with you S.K. boys, you go to hard. Are'nt you blokes the ones responsible for the nearly 70 slabs consumed at Macedon ?

The mighty Macedon Cricket Ground is the best place for a can and watching good footy. Especially on the "members hill"!!!

Total 65 plus slabs and a dozen slabs off JB's approx.

Thanks to all not to much rubbish to clean up afterwards.

Good to see local footy at it's best all day.

Can't wait for Sunday.

Buffalo Sports Under 18 Grand Final

The battle of the best 2 sides in the Under 18's comp.

Romsey had a scare last week when with 2 mins remaining they trailed Woodend by a couple of points, when Cam Dawson laid a superb tackle and put the Redbacks in front, they will have the job ahead of them though when this week they take on the Bombers. Again, Dawson is the key for the redbacks, he was good without being outstanding in the Semi, and will need to step up another level here if Romsey is to stand a chance.
Romsey need star performances from Burgess, Harrison and Hartley and Phil Romeril needs to have an impact.

The Bombers are the reigning premiers and will go in full of confidence after a 5 goal win 2 weeks ago.
The Riddell Under 18's are littered with stars, all of whom will need to have an impact on this game.
The talk around the bombers will be if some of these stars overlook 18's to play Seniors, Petran and Leitch are 2 that are likely to do so, while Peter Robertson will probably play seniors but is likely to double up after the 18's.
Climas and Barker will hold the key to the game for the bombers.. Climas is a star, while Barker works hard all day.

This game is likely to be won and lost in the middle, and the Redbacks need to jump Riddell early. Look for Dawson to start in the middle to try to rattle the bombers.

With a full strength side, its hard to go past Riddell, but after last weeks game, Romsey will be looking to win on emotion....

Riddell by 6 goals...

you would think Riddell will be to strong in the seniors and have to many guns. in the reserves i think sunbury looked prety good the other day and with diggers having both sides in would have to start favourites especially given diggers lose atleast 3 players. riddell by a country mile in the 3rds.

RDFL Reserves Grand Final

A rivalry clash of mass proportions.. If any 2's clash could be a drawcard, even by itself, it is this game, Diggers Rest Vs Sunbury Kangaroos.. Ying Vs Yang...

The Burra have been good all season, hence the strength through both the 2's and 1's.
Marty Weaver has been the Diggers key for much of the season, he leads the league goalkicking and has 10 goals in the 2 finals matches thus far and has caused opposition sides major headaches...
Add to Marty the other dangerous forwards in Leigh Webster, Matt Reiffel, Mick Shehan and Tim Bourne and the Diggers side has some serious artillery up forward. The midfield of the Burra has also been good this year, and they will look to continue thier push toward the elusive flag that has eluded Diggers the past 2 years in the 2's.

The Kangaroos are appearing in thier first ever senior Grand Final, the buzz around the club is electric.
Benny Hunting has been good up forward as has Rick Scott and the ever reliable captain Paul Noonan.
The Kangaroos midfield has been superb the past 8 weeks, winning the football at will and once again will be looking to control the possession of the football this week.

Both sides will hold nothing back in this war of attrition.. It is a game to definately make sure that you catch this Sunday...

For me..... The Kangas to win by 26 points. http://rdfl2005.proboards78.com/index.cgi?board=review&action=display&thread=1158537098
