2 new public holidays starting 2028 (one of them is a Saturday though)

Easter Saturday will now be a public holiday, joining Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday. This will bring WA into line with Victoria, the ACT and the NT.

The King’s Birthday, now in late September during the Royal Show week, will be shifted to the second Monday in June to better align with other States.

A new weekday public holiday, to be known as Show Day, will be added to coincide with the first Monday of the September-October school holidays. Regional councils will be able to hold Show Day at another date in September.

WA Day will move from June to the second Monday in November.

Labour Day will shift to the second Monday in March to align with other States. In State election years, it will be on the third Monday in March to avoid having an election over a long weekend.

Nah, I think it's more so people who have to work on that Saturday get public holiday penalty rates

A nice little gesture of some extra cash for the poor sods in retail.

They certainly have earnt it. IMO Christmas Eve should be one too; mostly for the retail folks.

I remember back when I used to work in Woolies and some bloke started losing the plot that we had no Christmas hams left in stock about 30mins from close on Christmas Eve.

Probably stressed because his daughter Blair surprised him by coming come for Christmas with her new fiancee Enrique, and honey hickory ham is her favourite

Effectively just pushes back Labour Day from the 1st Monday in March to the 2nd and the old WA Day (now Kings Birthday) from the 1st Monday of June to the 2nd.
Yeah, the regular days off in early March and June have each been pushed back a week to align with the eastern states. Shame, as I quite enjoyed working those days knowing that I wouldn't be bothered by anyone interstate.

Yeah I used to love it back in the day because my head office was in Vic, no dickheads calling to whinge about something inconsequential.

Grateful for the extra PH, but that's a lot of shuffling around of the regular days off.
Hmm.
I don't get public holidays off but also I don't have to contend with traffic on public holidays.

God knows CBD traffic is going to be horrific enough with the PCEC renovations, a few extra days of no bumper to bumper might be nice

The usual nuffies on Facebook moaning about public holiday surcharge on an extra day in Easter.

But then I remember the algorithm and website is designed for more extreme viewpoints, so who gives a f***. The vast majority would appreciate an extra public holiday overall. Roger Cook could personally visit each of those nuffies and give them a free house and they'd still moan about him destroying the housing market and costing real estate agents their jobs or some shit. Nothing ever makes the terminally online happy.

Mainstream media seems to bring out the lowest common denominator in the comments. Ignore with gritted teeth is my best approach.

I have to remind myself that those fine or generally supportive of the change won't bother posting. Or those who like it but aren't online all the time. These platforms are all about clickbait and rage-clicks and controversy for the sake of engagement - if it weren't for Messenger and FB Marketplace I'd have deleted FB long ago.

Same with google reviews these days (or all online reviews for that matter).

Most people who have an expected/normal/mid/enjoyable experience won't bother at all to leave a review.
Those who have a terrible experience are more likely too.
And the vast majority of positive reviews are most likely payed for.

The internet really has ruined alot
