Francis is actually top 5 pick, Lever is currently a good intercept player that's showing promise taken at pick 14. He is not worth a straight top 5 pick. Lol dreaming if you think that's what will come back for him.
Francis is the one being overrated here, done precious little to date to suggest he was worthy of his pick 5 to this day whereas Lever has proven he was a draft steal franked by his outstanding performance. There is a reason almost every other club is chasing him.....Francis however all duck and no dinner at this time....

it does say, that there was no ******* warchest. No Gibbs + CBA 20% and still we needed to restructure Tex?

warchest my ass :)
I think it says that we had room in our TPP to fill in 2017.

Tex's contract was signed with the looming need to cover a big short term offer to Dangerfield. Hence it is possible a lot of his total contract was back ended. Therefore, we bring this forward to give us room for the next couple of years.

At the same time it helps us send the message that success requires sacrifice, something they would want Lever and McGovern to contemplate in their ongoing negotiations.

In fact if it has been restructured to bring costs forward it confirms we HAVE a war chest (or at least room in the TPP cap atm).

I don't disagree he hasn't done anything, albeit injured a lot. Just saying he was top 5 pick 2 years ago and hasn't had a real look in. Value won't have gone down a hell of a lot in 2 years given the mild nature of his injuries and no full AFL preseason to date.
Hardy har har

I bought a car once

It spent two years in the shop and i couldn't even use it

Still had the same value as when i bought it though. For reals.

EDIT: now that i think more about it, maybe that's not a great analogy. It's better to boil it down a bit.

Pick 6 buys Francis, a 250-game player of skill level X

Injured, injured...

Francis is now a 200-game player of skill level X.

Lifetime output has decreased. Why hasn't his value? Is two years out of the game going to magically improve his skill level so that you get the same output from 50 less games? Remember, no peptides allowed!

Lol the ******* AFL media.

They do a big article on why Jake is already one of the best defenders in the game at 21 years of age and how there is a bidding war for him, then go on to say that Carlton are best place to land him because they can give us a 29 yr old Gibbs and a third round pick. Vic centric bs, if it was the other way we would have to give Sloane and first, I would bet. **** I hope this kid signs a 5 year deal just to shut these ******s up.
Lol. Gibbs and a third? I almost choked on my coffee.

Is SOS writing these articles?
You think that's bad?

Read the Carlton board! They think Lever and OUR First for Gibbs...

Absolutely boggles the mind...

I didn't say it hasn't gone down. Not enough to say he isn't still a top 10 pick in that draft. Definitely hasn't slid to 14th judging on what others from that draft have accomplished. He's still tall. He can still kick goals. He'll come good, a little bit of me is just curious how much you rate Lever...highly, and rightly so he's going to be a jet no doubt

A jet yes, but not a bomber.

Wait...

You genuinely believe that Francis currently holds the same value as Lever?
Somebody already bought up Levers knee. Have a rough idea on Levers potential, Francis yet to prove he is or isn't capable. What he did in his draft year would still be relevant due to injuries halting his progress. He's still tall, wellbuilt and a natural footballer. Probably still roughly equal value on the open market this offseason, yeah
