Why else would he take a pay cut unless it was to retain and recruit players?

Maybe we are throwing some monster offers out there, plus paying Lever and Gov more than we originally intended.
Lever would be already on 250-350, so its only around 400-500 extra for him. Then Gov would also be on 200-250 so for him it might only be an extra 300. So 800 extra to retain them. We had money already in the cap to pay for Gibbs, so we still have around 1.5 mill left over. And with no guarentees of getting a Martin or Fyfe, why would he need to take a cut?

Thats my point, I think they must have a recruit or some recruit lined up. Or he's taken a cut and if we don't land anyone they rejig his contract.

The other thing is that all of our potential delistees and retirements are on bargain basement deals, aside from Thommo who we are led to believe is also paid well below what he was last year.

We aren't going to replace them all with draft kids, so that extra money needs to be created to increase our depth

The only way in having someone lined up if they have had that player agree to come to Adelaide which is highly unlikely unless that players name is Gibbs

They can have a shopping list but as we have seen over the 20 odd years in the comp we need to convince players to come here, it doesn't happen very often

If Tex needed to restructure his deal to help us re-sign others - what does that say about our so called war chest
Depends who they mean by others, if it means Lever, Gov and an elite mid, then it says the rumours are real, if just the first 2, then they aren't.
Rumours Sloane will announce new deal today as well, we are clearly getting ducks in a row for something

It would be strange to sign people to restructured deals if we didn't have someone lined up. Fingers crossed!

LOL at those still claiming we have a warchest left over from Danger. Truly finger in the ear stuff given the statements coming out of the club.
I never really bought into it but with Tex and Rory doing what they've done it looks as though they're freeing up some coin.

If Sloane extends his deal that would be outstanding.

I never expected Walker would leave but I half expected Sloane to head back to Melbourne after this contract with Belinda doing more and more tv stuff there

Lever will go for a top 5 pick, two firsts or a first and a player. He is one of the best defenders in the comp at 21 and Francis isn't even playing in the ones. Would you take Gallucci and a pick swap for Daniher?
Francis is actually top 5 pick, Lever is currently a good intercept player that's showing promise taken at pick 14. He is not worth a straight top 5 pick. Lol dreaming if you think that's what will come back for him.

I'm not sure what they're both worth but surely it's fair to say that since being drafted Lever has gained value while Francis has lost value

Pretty clear overrating of draft picks going on here. You'd be rapt if you took Lever with pick 5. Any draftwatchers really going to suggest Lever as a 21 year old known commodity wouldn't go top 5?
Teams would give up a top 3 pick for Lever let alone top 5.

She's also doing TV stuff here. Saw her on some Channel 7 show on Sunday.

I think you are the one dreaming if you don't think he is worth a top five pick. Only reason he went at 14 is because of his knee.

Early extensions could also be about getting ahead of the game.

We still have Sloane, Douglas, Laird, Atkins, Lynch, Matt Crouch, Cameron, Hampton and Mackay out of contract at the end of next year.

Why not lock in Walker, Betts and if you can Sloane and a few others early and get our future plans locked in early.
