I'm not concerned about the offers we already pay Lever probably somewhere between 300 to 400 if we need to lift it to say 750 as we will retain for slightly less as 50k that another club is offering as that is only 25k in his pocket, that won't be a concern all clubs have the same salary cap to play with

The bulldogs are stuffed with paying players who have health issues and can't get on the park and not small wages either having a player worth $1 million per year in the position they are in more or less wipes them out of contention

Then having a team of premiership players who no doubt will have over inflated ego s and salaries to go with it when coming out of contract

Bulldogs would be the least of our concern for Lever to leave

I always wonder whether it goes through players minds about how clubs overlooked them in the draft, but another club gave them a look in. Shooter and Snake are prime candidates for that. We saw something in them and took the gamble. Particularly moreso in Shooter's case. I'm sure Lever would have been pickedup within another half dozen picks.

We've consistently lost backline players over the years and yet we still have one of the better back 6 units going around. There will be other intercept marking players in upcoming drafts for us to groom.

With that said, $700K/year for 4 should be enough to get it done for Lever at his age. The stay price should always be 15-20% below the leave price, especially on a first contract, and if $850K is the leave price i'd be happy to go as high as $700K. If we start paying full market FA price to retain players we are going to massive salary cap strife in 2-5 years.

Correct if its purely about coin, he is 100% staying someone would pay $800K for Jake he would stay for $750K

If he is being paid $300-$400 now we are looking for $350 per annum incraese or extra cap room

With an extra $2 Million cap room, there is no way he is leaving for the fact we cant afford him, we could pay him more if we wanted
