Weekend Wrap and "Liked, Learned, Hated" right here -- How did tipping go?
Our top line players are near to end or retirement not at there prime like in 2017 when we got Prestia, Nank and Caddy that's a huge difference. Pies didn't target big names I know they had salary issues , but they went to the draft and target a few mid range players from clubs and build with kids and stop playing rejects.
Geelong have twice the number of players nearing retirement than we do and it's not stopping them. The likes of Melbourne (Gawn, May, Hibberd), Collingwood (Pendlebury, Sidebottom, Howe, Elliott), Fremantle (Walters, Fyfe, Mundy) and Sydney (Rampe, Parker, Buddy) all have a number of guys who they rely heavily upon that will be retiring around the same time as our guys will.
Like our guys they are still playing good footballer and will continue to do so. If we can add additional talent in the 22-25 age bracket then we absolutely should do so.
No, I don’t want to keep him but he would be on minimum wage and can play AFL if required. We’re not going to get anything better out of a kid we draft at pick 72 and we’re stuck with him for 2 years. You cannot be serious about wanting to keep Arts. With respect he battles to make reserves standard. Applies himself but not good enough seriously. A good honest battler but not good enough for a AFL list, is 27 or older, come on, some need to take a reality pill. He lived the dream, should be given best wishes on his best endeavours going forward

Lambert has a degenerative hip condition. There is no operation or amount of rest that will fix it. Every time he plays he does more damage. He's done.
Cotchin is no longer the best option in the middle. He will only get slower from here. Neither RCD or Ross will ever win a Brownlow medal or be a 3x premiership captain, but one of them will win more clearances than Cotchin in 2023. It's time for the next solider to step up.
By the way - I hate the fact that I'm calling for mass retirements from our champion players. I wish they could all go on for another 2 or 3 years, but it's just not realistic.
Some of the calls here are just outright batshit crazy
Caddy, Lambert & Edwards will go off the list this year (2 already have gone)
Cotch & Jack at the end of 2023, maybe Taz too, but he looks like he could play a while longer too
Dusty doesn't even come into consideration until he asks to leave
That leaves us with a pretty young and balanced list moving forward, we don't have to retire everyone off the moment they hit 30-32
No, I don’t want to keep him but he would be on minimum wage and can play AFL if required. We’re not going to get anything better out of a kid we draft at pick 72 and we’re stuck with him for 2 years.
Would never have guessed any of those stats, he is having a decent season & deserves to go on next to get to 300 should he intend to do so.Cotchin is having a very good season. Averaging 2.5 centre clearances (20th in AFL) and 4.9 total clearances (39th in AFL), which is more clearances than Petracca, LDU, Viney, Guthrie, Merrett, Dunkley, Andy Brayshaw and loads of others that would surprise you etc …..
He’s 44th for contested possession average …ahead of Lyons, Brayshaw, Crisp, Shiel, Newcombe, Merrett, Atkins etc….
We are not ready to kiss goodbye to that output … it’s throwing our young mids to the wolves, particularly with Prestia’s injury history (and who knows about Dusty). Even if he only plays 15 games, our young mids will benefit greatly from him on field and off.

Any hints? I'm intrigued!Just quietly, look out for another announcement from the club later this week. #justarumour
300 and out?Just quietly, look out for another announcement from the club later this week. #justarumour
That's what he hinted at. The source is a 50/50 guy, but well connected through one of the coteries. He told me Lambert had retired on Friday and that there was "more to come" before the end of the season.300 and out?
Matty Parker thanks for everythingJust quietly, look out for another announcement from the club later this week. #justarumour
Matty Parker thanks for everything
Aarts is on the rookie isn't he? If he is on the main clearly he has to be let go either way.So with Caddy, Edwards (I expect) and Lambert all retired plus Aarts and Martyn likely to be delisted that's 5 spots opened up on the senior list already. Then there is the chance of a Ross or RCD requesting a trade. Stack I think needs to be cut or elevated from the rookie list? Miller too I think. Parker I assume was still on the rookie list. I think delist and re-rookie Stack, elevate Miller. Retain Biggie on the rookie list.
Given we'll only have 3 decent picks in the draft I think we definitely need Cotchin and Riewoldt to go around one more year. No point cutting them and replacing them with late draft picks. Currently we hold picks 9, 19, 27 then 81, 99 and 117.
I think we should be trading at least one of those early picks out for a midfielder, use 2 picks in the ND, 2 picks in the RD and pick up a Paddy Dow type mature age player for peanuts. Then moving Riewoldt and Cotchin out after 2023 will make it a fairly smooth transition.
Is he? He signed a 2 year deal in 2020. Can sign multi year rookie deals? Not sure. But yeah he has to be gone.Aarts is on the rookie isn't he? If he is on the main clearly he has to be let go either way.
Cotch and JR can go on the rookie list, helps with cap space to
I take a very duifferent view. Gibcus has shown more in a few quarters up forward than Balta has in entire games. More importantly, Balta has all the traits necessary to be the next Alex Rance. Gibcus will be (at best) a taller version of Jake Lever. One answer the club need to find is who of Balta or Gibcus stay back. I'd like to see Balta play forward 100% of the time. Bloke can monster blokes one on one may as well plonk him in the goal square and push Lynch higher up. Gibcus stays down back
Great call EQ. Love an early tip that actually comes to fruitionJust quietly, look out for another announcement from the club later this week. #justarumour
