This years draft looks like it’s loaded with midfielders. Would love to get two first round picks somehow to use on two guns. Then pursue a KPF for development.

I think there will be a lot of key position players available this year too in that 10-30 range. Reminds me of 2017 when CJ, Oscar Allen, Balta, Sam Taylor, Tom De Koning and Tom McCartin all went between picks 20 and 35.

Yes but not many are key forwards, surely we won’t pickup another key back. Our priorities should be an in and under midfielder and key forward. We may trade for the midfielder. Brisbane appears to be in the box seat in this years draft with 2 highly rated father sons and the Bombers also with some father sons are building a very strong list

Cotchin is having a very good season. Averaging 2.5 centre clearances (20th in AFL) and 4.9 total clearances (39th in AFL), which is more clearances than Petracca, LDU, Viney, Guthrie, Merrett, Dunkley, Andy Brayshaw and loads of others that would surprise you etc …..

He’s 44th for contested possession average …ahead of Lyons, Brayshaw, Crisp, Shiel, Newcombe, Merrett, Atkins etc….

We are not ready to kiss goodbye to that output … it’s throwing our young mids to the wolves, particularly with Prestia’s injury history (and who knows about Dusty). Even if he only plays 15 games, our young mids will benefit greatly from him on field and off.

A lot of our issues have come from questionable coaching staff and their decisions regarding players

Decisions that don’t benefit the team but their “relationship” with those players

And it shows when they continue to recycle through the same players to bring in and out

No, I don’t want to keep him but he would be on minimum wage and can play AFL if required. We’re not going to get anything better out of a kid we draft at pick 72 and we’re stuck with him for 2 years.

I hope Dusty plays more fwd, I'd have MRJ and NoahC, Clarke, Sonsie in my forward line. I'd retain RCD and try him as a forward. Id keep fat Stack all ahead of Aarts and not use late draft picks at all. I'm glad we didn't retain Parker. But I'd've retained him ahead of Aarts/George.

Do the math. Forward we have Riewoldt who will be 34 next year if he plays, Lynch 30 and injury prone. Down back we have Tarrant who'll turn 34 and Dylan Grimes 32. One key tall first rounder in one draft isn't going to cover them all. And we are desperately exposed if injury or retirement take any of them. And since talls take longer to develope than mids, and this is supposedly a strong tall draft, now is the time.

It's difficult, isn't it. To understand where we're at. It's been a great ride. One of my bucket list wishes, was to see the Tigers win a premiership live. Im getting on, so wasn't sure i would. But I've been at the last dance twice now to see them and hope a couple more to come. I think after 37 years of nothingness, most supporters have that fear of falling away again in the bqck of their mind. For me, it's we are either playing to win a premiership, or we are bulding to win one. I just hope the club knows which one we are.

The competition is that bad at the moment, if we hit the draft this year, along with the 2021 draftees we should win the premierships from 2023-2026, nothing can be more certain, we just need to bring in the young talent!!

Bauer a mid season rookie that has never played a game. Ryan will be 22 in December, was a late pick and has only played one. Moreover, his most promising signs have been in the ruck and not as a key forward. Biggy again late pick that was delisted and then relisted, and again where has he showed the most promise, as a ruck. And Miller, another late pick and uncertain proposition at best. Go to to the main board and argue that are well stocked with young talls ready to take over from Riewoldt, Lynch, Grimes and Tarrant with that lot and you'd be laughed off.

And was for Gibcus he was recruited as the best key back and that's where he has shown his best form and that's where ultimately he will needed.

And you know what the sun will also come up it we recruit a tall with our first rounder.

Jack may play but at what level, will he be managed? (and again we don't really know if he will). As I said Lynch is also getting on and is injury prone. That is being seriously exposed. But whatever, what I find interesting is how cavalier some are about drafting talls compared to mids ie 'maybe buy a free agent or even use later picks'. I look at teams with the best key talls that we'd have to beat to win a premiership (some with twin towers) and they all invariably come from the first round (just like Riewoldt and Lynch did).

Gibcus (who is actually a defender)is the first first round tall we have picked since Reiwoldt in the 2006 draft. I guess for some using any more than one first rounder on a KPF every 20 years is a wasteful excess. Anyhow we were lucky to have Lynch fall into our laps for just salary cap, that is highly unlikely to happen again. Much rather draft our next Riewoldt or Lynch then pay through the nose or settle for some B grader.

Anyhow there are some kinds of players that you bargain bin more with later picks than others eg Rucks, crumbing small forwards, negating defenders. But athletic tall marking KPFs with football smarts and kicking skills, not so much. Anyhow, it's getting late here, just want to say that ultimately want the best available with our first pick regardless of height, but if they are both equal then it has to be the tall.

They're an interesting pair. Real contrast in body types.
You look at Cadman, has that Hawkins man-child size to him. Is he kicking goals because he's physically bigger than his opponents? Or due to genuine forward ability? He also looks a bit like a long-haired Jayden Post which is slightly off-putting.
Then there's Jefferson who looks like they stuck Ethan Hawkes head on a scarecrow. Skinny as a rake but still kicking bags. Does that mean he's got a much higher ceiling once he adds strength and size? Or will he struggle to add weight and get pushed around?

Tough call. Think I prefer Jefferson Airplane.

Lets get real for a minute. Its not a fab 5.

Bolton is a star, Baker is a special role player, Balta is a gun with a lot of talent, Lynch a KPP high end, Vlastuin solid, and Rioli a bit of flair and run. They are not all the same and cannot be struck with the same brush in terms of any recruiting approach. These guys where not late draft picks except Baker and Baker is a great tryer but is not in the same class apart from being a terrific role player in the forward line.

Even Bolton is more a star in the context of a forward threat. Having said that he is a freak in teh way he moves. I was watching Nick Daicos move after getting the ball ad what stood out to me was how freakish his ability to exit the play in his movement after getting the ball with ball in hand. I am not sure Bolton would be the best back pocket in the world and Caleb Daniel did not do a lot for the Bulldogs in the backline last night
