Hey guys, I was wondering if there is a possible loophole in GWS's recruiting concessions.

Last season I believe Gold Coast were allowed to sign 10 players who had not played in the AFL for the past three years or something similar to this. Gold Coast took advantage of two or three of these players I believe in Daniel Harris, Stanley and I can't remember any more. So this left them with, let's say, 7 unused signings, Gold Coast were smart though, they didn't let them go to waste, they decided to let other clubs pick players they wanted and then trade them straight to them, I believe this is how Collingwood got Krakouer and North got Cam Richardson, I think there were a few more. So rather than just let these signings go to waste they got atleast some value out of it.

The question I raise is can this loophole be exploited for their uncontracted player signings?

A hypothetical would be Mitch Clark.

Let's just say that Clark wants to leave Brisbane at the end of the year, but he doesn't want to play for GWS, he wants to play for a WA club. Let's also assume that there is nobody else on the Brisbane list that GWS want to target, would they be able to sign Mitch Clark simply to get him to one of the WA clubs. Of course Clark would have to agree, but if he did he would know that whilst slightly screwing over his club, he have a far greater chance of landing at the club of his choice.

Another potential one could be Patrick Dangerfield, as far as I'm aware he is uncontracted and hasn't ruled out returning to Melbourne. Let's say Collingwood have offered him a contract and Dangerfield declares the only club he wants to go to is Collingwood. Collingwood may offer a 'reasonable' deal such as pick 52 for him, if Adelaide can't come to a deal with Adelaide can Dangerfield then sign up for GWS and then be traded for a potential deal like Goldsack and Cameron Wood?

For this scenario to work I think it needs to have 3 criteria in play.

---Club X has to have an uncontracted player than wants out but doesn't want to go to GWS.

---GWS must feel that there is no suitable signings on that list, which could quite possibly be the case for several clubs.

---The player from Club X must be willing to screw over his old club

However, this doesn't necessarily have to screw over every team, one situation that I've been thinking of is this...

On the open market Mitch Clark is probably worth a top 10 pick, but he wouldn't get a top 5 pick.

If he wanted to go to Fremantle for example Brisbane would probably have to settle for a pick in the high teens and a young fringe player.

If GWS signed him you would imagine they would recieve a compo pick at the end of round 1. However because they lost 2 players last season Brisbane would be able to apply for special compensation which is currently being discussed on the Brisbane board. The AFL have said if a particular clubs is affected too greatly by the expansion clubs due to an anomoly they may be compensated more. In this case losing Rischitelli, Brennan and Clark would be appropriate IMO. So they could have that pick upgraded to being imediately after their first pick. If Brisbane only win one more game for the rest of the season and 'look towards the future' next season they could potentially gets picks 1, 2 and 3.

Fremantle would have to give something to GWS to make all of this worth their while however, maybe a pick upgrade.

Also keep in mind, the deals are just used as hypotheticals, I'm not suggesting they'll happen, I don't even know the contract status of the players I've mentioned.
