I just found 2 gold bars and practically upgraded the lot. If you do the leather tools one the cougar pelt can be turned into a satchel etc rather than just being sold for cash.

I do both.

If I just give the cougar pelt now does it "count" as going toward something later when I found the other necessary things to upgrade the satchel?

I found a stranger with a treasure map but it involves going to three different locations, and I've only been to one. One location is also very far north and my only option right now is on horseback.

It would be pretty hard to. I think the easiest way to do it would be to just nurses everyone and rob stores

I just stood there watching as he was pleasant when I greeted him. Then he told me to get lost. I watched from a distance and nothing else was happening so I assumed that’s all his role as an npc in the world was. Just as I was about to ride off he started cheering and running off. I rode up to him and pressed greet again and Arthur said “I see you found a nugget for me” or something. Long story short, he wasn’t too compliant and is now off the path in a bush and I am a gold nugget richer.

I went there once, carrying a sick man on my horse I didn't turn and rode straight into a building at a t intersection killing him.
Had to get out of there quick as was getting shot at from everywhere. Ended up with a bounty on my head.

This game is really bloody detailed. Start of chapter 2 the view from the cliff near camp is beautiful.
The mud in town, glorious.

To craft you have to donate the skin/item to Pearson.

Yeah had the bandits scenario, I always set a way point and get on the trail following to the waypoint before I do it. Did it the first time just heading into the bush and I poleaxed myself on a tree .
