red guernsey idea

I was thinking after the ANZAC game win what a red essendon guernsey should look like if ever it was incorperated in games against teams like Port, Tigers, Magpies and Carlton.

However I do strongly believe like most bomber fans the black and red sash should never ever be changed or replaced and thats why I think if there was ever a second guernsey it would be a clash guernsey only.
(and yes I remember the afl poll on guernsey change and i voted no and no change )

I think the guernsey must be red and black and most importantly simple because we dont it turning out like the port clash guerney .

I think the clash guernsey should have a background essendon red colour (the same as the on the red sash and bar scarf).
Below the afl logo and 3 commercial on the front should be a black squarish triangle with the bomber logo in the middle of it. The back should be the same red with black numbers and that would be it.

In conclusion I think if we ever (Though I doubt it) have a clash guernsey we should keep it simple and maybe be designed by the fans.

What do you guys think of this design and what do you think of having a clash guernsey?

It really doesn't bother me if there is or isn't a clash jumper. It would only get worn around 3 times a year if there was. But I generally don't have problem distinguishing players from different teams, I mean do white shorts really make us look like stkilda?

thanks, though I was sorta basing it on the pre season polo and logo on the supporters cap design .... but yeah it did turned out like the current red training guernsey.

If we had to change the colours for a clash of jumpers or something like that, what would be wrong with simply reversing the colours on the strip?

i always get disspointed when watching the soccer and clubs wear different colours to their proper 1's i know it caus ethey have so many teams that they have alike jumpers but it does sorta get annoying. we at least dont need to, in a 16 team comp i cant think of one Major colour clash...

Essendon is a progressive club, and it is annoying, and embarassing, to be the only club that hasn't altered their jumper to avoid a clash.

We should have been the first club to do this back in the 60's before anyone else did. Sadly we look like being the last. The return game against St.Kilda when we are the away team (with white shorts) and they wear their traditional red, white and black stripe is the msot glaring clash and the away team (in ANY sport) should be made to change in such a occurance.

It's simple common-sense, and most importantly it helps the players.

How does a predominately black jumper look like a red/white/black jumper? How do the white shorts look like a white stripe covering the middle third of the jumper? How does a red sash look like a large red rectangle covering one side third of a jumper?

I really don't understand how people get it mixed up. Especially since you can distinguish the players or the direction they are going or players they are passing to or getting chased by.

The league should go back to using materials for the guernseys that aren't so damn shiny. I think that would fix part of the problem.

I agree.

IF we're eventually going to have an away strip, then that should be it.

I don't want to see dodgy logos and things.

The beauty in the traditional strips is their simplicity.

It's a shame the other teams have forgotten this.

Hopefully, we won't.

hi y'all (1st post here)

i'm absolutely ASTOUNDED as to why so many people (and clubs) are against changing the strip due to a clash of colours..(WHY?)

some thoughts
1. the whole idea of having guernseys in the first place is to distinguish one team from another, and there are too many clashes

2. makes sense for the clubs as a marketing tool, have 2 guerneys to sell instead of one and make more sales on jumpers

3. might be ok for you and i to watch the dons play st.kilda, melbourne, adelaide, etc but it wouldn't be too flash for someone whose eyesight ain't too flash. i know people who prefer to watch soccer instead of footy simply because their eyesight isn't that great and its too much of a struggle to follow what's going on

as fo a changed strip, i always liked the idea of having a red guernsey with a black sash, though that change in strip might not work against all sides

I think a black or grey Bomber (eg B52) down the side of the Guernsey would look awesome against a red background. The wings would be displayed on the front and back and give the ‘sash’ effect. I think it would make an attractive but powerful strip.

I think this statement is factually inaccurate. Carlton has not done it either.

This is garbage.

The game has moved on, time for every club to move with it.

Have a look at the Premier League.

Here are some examples of clash jumpers used by Arsenal (the greatest side in the EPL).

And their home strip:

If a club with as much tradition as ours can manage to change their strip dramatically, so can we.

other clubs have merely sold their team colours as a marketing ploy for kids to spend up big on the latest garb it has NOTHING to do with any perceived colour clash of jumpers......................

we have done pretty well (16 flags) with the colours we've got...........

if other clubs wanna do it .............fine

but we should NEVER give in to some gormless marketing type who thinks they are acting on our behalf.

I never said we should replace the guernsey or deviate from the black and red.

I think that a replacement of the black and red sash is a form heresy just as you do and I believe you have jumped the gun with my post.

I agree, I think we have enough advertising already we should not have any additional advertisements on the guernsey, flags, training gear etc.

before we know it there will be other designs put forward for discussion & it will become a self-fulfilling prophecy....................

it might be fun to muck around with ideas but please keep them to yourself.
