The same empty headed nuffies who surrendered the ground and their rights for a few magic beans and a gentle reach around also voted to put Andrew Hilditch on the SACA board.

I wish that was surprising :(

Wasn't he one of the incumbents? I think I read that in the voting material. Bewildering to see how he found the time.

I've already tossed my voting leaflet, but I'm pretty sure only one of the four options was an incumbent, and it wasn't Hilditch.

I suppose he is a good choice for the SACA board though - spent the last few years overseeing a disaster, and refuses to admit any fault or blame while doing everything he can to keep the job.

Jake Fawcett is playing at Glenelg this season after being cut from the contracted list at WA.

anyone else watching the champions league match vs kolkata?

fergie hit a great 70 off 40 and we've currently got them 3 down for 46. lyon almost had gambir out stumped and then smacked it straight down the throat of klinger next ball

Ferguson showing he is capable of more than just finding the gaps. Don't know the Australian selectors aren't picking him.

Not too bothered by Tait getting dropped either. Conditions were hardly working for straight up pace. Richardson and Putland will be our front line quicks in limited overs cricket this season anyway.

Being just days out from the opening Ryobi Cup match, what do you think the Redbacks side will look like, I was thinking the following:

1. Dan Harris (Hopefully kicks off the domestic season well, been doing well in T20 for what its worth)
2. Aiden Blizzard (Will definitely play just whether he will open is the question, I hope he has a good season)
3.Michael Klinger (Hopefully the skipper can have another outstanding season with the Backs)
4. Callum Ferguson (Don't need to say much about him but hopefully he can push on and cement his place in the Australian team sooner rather then later)
5. Cam Borgas (I like the way Borgy bats just needs to be a little more consistent)
6.Theo Doropoulos (Hopefully contributes a bit with bat and ball with his new state)
7. Daniel Christian (Needs to back up last years form in the One-dayers to become respected by other teams, if not already)
8. Aaron O'Brien (Like his bowling and a little under rated, lets hope he can be economical and chip in with a couple of wickets and with a handy 30 or 40 if required)
9. Tim Ludeman (Don't rate him with bat or gloves but lets hope he proves me wrong)
10. Nathan Lyon (Wasn't at his best in CLT20 but didn't bowl tremendously badly, I think he will do alright)
11. Kane Richardson (Will be a good player, needs a couple of good seasons to get under selectors noses)
12.Gary Putland

I really do think we will miss Taity because we lack real strike power, also this side only has one pace bowler which isn't the best but I believe this is the best side available and maybe they will have to open with Lyon or O'Brien which wouldn't be a bad thing. Everyone can bat a bit but I think our bowling will be a problem also will be interesting to see how they utilise the option of 13 overs a bowler. Need to start the season with atleast 2 wins from first 3 games if we want to contest because it is a short season with 8 games.

Result: NSW by 4 wickets or 50 runs- will be too strong in the end because our lack of bowling

BTW- New to the forum, like the domestic game

Whatever happened to Haberfield? Had a few injuries last season, came back and played the last couple of games for the Redbacks, then was nowhere to be seen in CLT20. Will be interesting to see where he places throughout this season?

Yeah, if he bowls alright in district cricket then wouldn't be surprised if he played for the redbacks just because of our lack of quick bowlers, but I think Richardson, George and even Sayers would get games before him

He just seems to have more upside than O'Brien

but that is just my opinion.

I'm going on personal experience from his time here in Darwin and feedback from the draft players from the Kerry Packer Foundation that played with him. Redbacks had their rookie camp up here and they still highly rate Dan Cullen yet that is probably what is keeping Dan Cullen shit. The same with Bailey, maybe they need to cut him loose so he can find the form that got him there in the first place.

Seems to be the way with SACA though, they'll dangle the carrot in front of their faces for someone they rate for as long as possible but for other players that are there abouts but don't fancy, then it is gone as quick as it is put out.

Bailey did have some injury troubles up here but at the moment his pace through the air is consistently slow and doesn't seem to have many tricks up his sleeve.

If you want to see how committed Dan Cullen is you should wander down to the south parklands. He's there on his own training for hours every day.

That has nothing to do with what I've said, Dan Cullen is right off in the way he over analyses his action and everything, he action has turned into something completely robotic. His gone too technical and SACA holds some of the blame here.

Fair enough.

Naming of the first Shield and One-day cups squads today:

One-day:
1 Borgas, Cameron
2 Christian, Daniel
3 Cooper, Tom
4 Crosthwaite, Adam
5 Ferguson, Callum
6 Harris, Daniel
7 Klinger, Michael
8 Ludeman, Tim
9 Lyon, Nathan
10 Mennie, Joe
11 Putland, Gary
12 Richardson, Kane
13 Smith, James

Shield:

1 Bailey, Cullen
2 Blizzard, Aiden
3 Christian, Daniel
4 Cooper, Tom
5 Ferguson, Callum
6 George, Peter
7 Harris, Daniel
8 Klinger, Michael
9 Ludeman, Tim
10 Lyon, Nathan
11 Mennie, Joe
12 Putland, Gary
13 Sayers, Chadd
14 Smith, James

Interesting to see no Blizzard in One-day squad, would have thought that was the format that would suit him most. No O'Brien in either squad not much of a surprise but still would've thought he would be in the Ryobi Cup squad. They must also rate either Ludeman or Crosthwaite as a batsmen becuase if Crosthwaite's playing Ludeman probably shouldn't be. Also don't rate Cooper in the shorter form so I would've played Blizzard instead of him and Good to see Sayers in the Shield team and don't know much about Mennie.

Good looking squads. I'd be leaving out Smith and Ludeman from the Ryobi Cup team. Not sure Ludeman is really suited to the shorter game, would like to see Crosthwaite given another chance because he is a talented batsman. Mennie is an interesting pick, will be good to see how he goes. Can never have too many young quicks.

Perhaps Blizzard isn't back from Mumbai Indians duties in time for the one-day game?
