It's not that fact that he is South African or the captain, it is actually where he fits in the side. He is neither an outstanding bowler or batsman at first class level. They basically have to find a spot for him.

Except he wasn't, and Fats McLardington was costing us further in the field.
The year he left he made the most runs in the entire competition and Tassie won the Shield.

Go Redbacks!

We let the most respected SA player of all time in Boof Lehmann walk to QLD and appointed Berry as coach! Needs to start at the top and work down from there....Whoever made that decision needs a pie to the face. We put a statue of the man out the front and then packed him up and sent him to QLD when our own team is rubbish. He would never have let Cossie roll off to Tasmania.

No sports science, No rubbish, No need to 'win ugly' - Just play good cricket...

Only 2 of our 11 players last night were South Aussies. There was very little talent in that side other than Hughes and Christian. Botha's shot was appalling. Worrall the worst batsmen I have ever seen, and our tactics questionable. This could be a very long season. Great weather to be at the cricket though, and having all the crowd in one spot was good for the atomosphere.

There were only two SA born players involved in the game. Ferguson & Cosgrove.

Doropoulis made 129 on the weekend. Is he a chance of a call up? We don't have any West Aussies in the side at the moment.

Thought Habberfield was a South Aussie?

No, Haberfield's from Qld.

If we include Kane Richardson, our 12th man, it makes 3.

Something's got to change & it has to start at the grade level.

I was talking to a grade club today for a Uni assignment, they think the SACA isn't worth a pinch of piss. The most the SACA has ever successfully done is subsidise their bar staff getting liquor licences, otherwise they come up with very few plans, and can't execute any of them. Total shambles, all the grade club was interested in doing was taking any SACA grant money and running their own ideas. Apparently junior numbers have been sinking badly for years, and getting worse - the grand SACA plan to combat that was announced, but never even remotely came close to being implemented. Board members too busy feathering their own bed at functions.

Haberfield's South Australian.

Played his juniors at Modbury then TTG from a very young age.

May have been born in Qld I don't know.

Definately born in Qld - Townsville from memory.

In the same way Jason Gillespie was born in Sutherland - Sydney.

Though it's interesting when you consider what people think is a South Australian. I've lived here longer than Haberfield's been on this earth & because I don't support the Crows or port people think I'm not South Australian. :)

And doesn't it show at grade level. What you've written confirms what I've thought for a long time. The system as it stands now looks really disjointed. I remember when Greg Chappell was coaching here & he implemented a four zone team structure for state squad selection. I don't know if that is still going but it sounded like a better idea to give prospective players more match time. I really think it's time to merge a couple of grade teams & relegate the least productive one. At the moment there are 11 teams. There shouldn't be a bye IMHO.

Well done Kane Richardson.

Much better performance in the field.

Hughes & Klinger looked well in control.

Let's carry it over to Tuesdays game.

Was at the match. moginie, you've raised the relevant points - Richardson bowled fantastic, we fielded great and took the catches we should have, Hughes & Klinger had no trouble.

Would love to see us carry this over to Tuesday (free entry!)
