Anyone knows what's with McGurk and Spencer Johnson. Are they still here? All the cricket going on I have lost track.

Both off to/in Sri Lanka for the ODI's. Johnson a fair chance to be added to the Champions Trophy squad.

Honestly to be top of the table by such a good margin when they have a top 6 that has had McInerney, Lehmann, Scott and Drew consistently in it is one of the greatest feats I’ve ever seen in modern cricket.
The same Liam Scott who took 3/10 in the first innings ??

Strange how people don't rate him.

Which would be fine if he was just in the team for his bowling and not consistently batting in the top 6/7… in 5 matches he’s scored 122 runs & has an average of 15 🤮

Travis Head scored a duck in his first Test too.

Liam has more talent than most of the squad, he'll be fine.

Scott averages 20 after 22 first class matches & has made only 3 50s, pick him as the 3rd/4th seamer if you want but he should not be batting in the top 7 in first-class red ball cricket.

His bowling has come along but there’s very little evidence he can bat in red ball cricket.

Correct

Australia’s 15-man squad for Champions Trophy 2025:
Pat Cummins (c), Alex Carey, Nathan Ellis, Aaron Hardie, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Marnus Labuschagne, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Matt Short, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, Adam Zampa
Squad is already out of date.
Marsh - out injured.
Stoinis - retired
Hazelwood - likely out injured
Cummins - likely out injured

Will need to find some new bowlers & allrounders.

I think he’s a good bowler, but hasn’t scored any runs consistently, and given the strength of our bowling unit, he needs to be able contribute more with the bat.

He does, that's a fair comment.

He's got a solid technique, i don't think he'll ever average 40+ but if he can move it up to the mid/late 30s and continue to bowl well he's a very good state cricketer

I agree, needs to start making runs, especially if he can't get his bowling average below 30

Shame Spencer Johnson hasn't played any shield. Seems it's been a clear plan for him to not be involved which is frustrating - he should be heir to Starcs place in the test side.

A bowling lineup of McAndrew, Buckingham and Johnson would be elite.
Not that Doggett is a slouch, he was also playing for Australia A.

Hopefully McSweeney and Carey can come back in to strengthen the batting in time for the final.

What does the best side for SA look like currently?

Hunt
McSweeney
Head
Sangha
Drew
 Scott
Carey
Manenti
McAndrew
Johnson
Buckingham

Cant play too much long form cricket or he'll break down sadly.

Dont think youll see Carey or Head back for a Shield final, however theres a reasonable break between the the Champions Trophy and the final. If we do get them back though..... wow. Probably have to factor in who we play, on current standings its Victoria who probably only get Boland back.

Big in mind you.

Also, if we were to host the final, chances are it would be at Glenelg again.
Karen Rolton Oval I reckon

The Shield final we hosted at Glenelg a few years ago was brilliant though. Really good crowds each day and it's a really nice ground to watch cricket. The game went down to the final session too.

It was really disappointing the following year that Victoria chose to play the final in Alice Springs.

Had about 2 people watching, a boring draw in searing heat. The game the previous year was such a good advertisement for domestic cricket. I know they'd have been conceding home ground advantage but surely there's a bigger picture.

Ah yes of course itll be at KRO.

I enjoyed the final down at Glenelg, despite the result.

I think McSweeney will go back to the middle order with Konstas emergence.

So my best team is:-

Hunt
? Mcinnerny/Nielsen
Sangha
McSweeney
Head
Carey
Scott
Manetti
McAndrew
Buckingham
Doggett

With hopefully Pope pushing Manetti and Johnson pushing Doggett.

I’d also give Nielsen a chance as a specialist batsman because clearly Mcinnerny isn’t up to it.

I know the pitch was ridiculously bowler-friendly but Doggett bowled a wicked inswinger to dismiss Ashton Turner in the first innings. Well worth a look if you miss the days of Alderman, Fleming, Akram!

I was there and Matty Wade going off at a spectator who may or may not have been me - nah it wasnt but I was standing behind him

At the ball tampering Glenelg game? Or the Alice Springs one?
