I don't think they've been playing him in a position where he can showcase his pace. He has had a lot of injuries and hasn't had a good run at it. That speed off the mark is enough for wing. Sidey has made a living out of it as have many other wingman. Reefs marking would also be very useful on the wing. He has been playing forward which is a lot harder to take a mark with your opponent right with you. On the wing he could be very useful as a down the line target, where he would be able to find more space and then use his breakaway speed to advantage

He show cases it as a forward Reef is often well in front of his opponent due to it.

Don't like it Manic. Wings about endurance and smart running. I suspect they're his two biggest weaknesses.

Pace wise, he's shown no inclination to run and carry or burst from congestion. I think he'll use his pace more effectively at either end - to get separation as a forward or to close space as a defender.

I suspect with his athletic profile they maybe looking to bring him like Degoey as a fwd who can have stints on ball before eventually becoming a ft mid when ready.

Did Tyler Brown ever kick 6 at VFL level? I dunno.

It would be silly to delist McInnis. He'll be a best 22 from next year I reckon.
It was mentioned yesterday that the Geelong era was built off the back of a strong VFL program.

Bartel played 20 or 30 VFL games. There was at least one other player mentioned possibly Enright as having done a VFL apprenticeship.

Hawthorn were famous for doing that in the 80s.

Reef, Bianco, MacRae and Draper need to be patient. Hopefully the club are providing some pathway for each of them.

If the players want the immediate sugar hit and want to leave then maximise the return. They are some handy steal knives to land a key forward.

Key forward? Isn't that McStay? If it's not why did we get him?

Different era, bigger lists. Clubs could afford to be more patient.

Plus the example wasn't great. Whilst he played a fair bit of reserves footy, Jimmy Bartel also played 40 AFL games in his first 3 years at Geelong.

He will play a lot of football for us over the next decade. He has the tools to potentially get to an AA level.

I think next season he can be a best 22 regular in the forward 50 where he will spend the next few years. I suspect the club views him as a long term inside midfielder, at 194cm and 90kg, with power and speed, he could be a great foil to Nick Daicos.

This bloke should be in the midfield already....

This clubs mindest on trying to turn every 190cm+ player into a hybrid forward is just frustrating.

Reefs game against Melbourne set him back a fair way , absolutely non existent. You couldn't trust him in a big final against that opposition. Reckon he needs another 12 months of development . Certainly wouldn't pick him to play as a key forward over McStay or even Frampton or AJ .

Richmond also had a strong vfl program - Fly will know that better than anyone.

As long as Bianco, Reef etc are not demanding big dollars, they will be fine. The patience is more so from the player than the club.

Although it is a refreshing change from trying to make everyone a rangy halfback flanker!
Geez, there was a time when all we seemed to recruit was 180+cm rangy left-foot flankers....🤦‍♂️
