Bring player money into it.

Either batting or bowling side can ask for an umpires decision to be referred. Cost $20,000 per referral.

If the umpire got it right, the umpire keeps the money.

If the umpire gets it wrong, the team that requested the referral gets a full refund.

Find out who the best umpires are. And get rid of ill advised referrals.

Also it slows down the game wayyyyy too much, people moan about over rates in test cricket, but they contradict this by introducing something that delays the game by 3-4 mins.

i don't get this point, because people seem happy to refer those close 4's which take up just as much time but in the contet of a game are pretty irrelevant.

however it's important to get the wickets right because in the context of a game a wicket is huge.

it's a shame the referral system didn't get everything correct, but i reckon it got most things right and we had much less wrong decisions during the series then we normally would.

i also think it's good for an umpire. they don't have to sit around for the rest of the day and wander if they got a decision right. if they got it wrong, it gets corrected straight away, and they can move on with it.

This takes the thread...

Are you serious?

Ill advised referrals? they get 2!!! if they lose both, thats it. How much more incentive do you need to not waste them?

The way some people are talking, it sounds like each team has as many referrals as they want.

They use them as if they have as many as they want.
