I would love to be able to know what the coaching start would say, I suspect they have much bigger hopes for Reid. Dawes is a bit more speculative.

I think its wrong to say Dawes has shown more so far. His end of season was encouraging he got that position as Reid was injured.

Although he made some mistakes in the seniors I think Reid settled into the pace of the game v quickly from day 1

As others have said we have hopes for both Reid is the more likely and has been from day 1.

I think Dawes has a better opportunity to find his place in the side as rocca gets older and we'll need a strong bodied type to sit in the square and destroy packs, Reid will be competing with cloke for chf.

Unless ofcourse he becomes a chb. hopefully they'll all fit in somewhere as well as rusling and rocca.... i think we're gonnna need a bigger boat

Reid was a year younger when he was drafted and probably a further year younger in body shape. I havent seen much other than the fact that he's a good athlete.

The point that one of them is going to be the new CHB is probably spot on. I must admit that neither of them are above average kicks. Both look a little ungainly. I dont like it. We're probably the worst team in the eight as far as kicking skills go and we base our game on our kicking.....so neither of these blokes is going to improve our ability to hit targets.

I actually thought Dawes started slowly and Then after Half-Way Thought the Season he really made the Turn and Really Improved from the Box-Hill game and on from that

Dawes has his neck in front at the moment, but remember Reid is less developed physically and a year younger than Dawes.

If we play Cloke, Rusling/Anthony and Rocca together we may see them both develop together in the twos anyway.

I'm with BEEG on this one. I think Dawes will be a good player for us and hopefully will play a Roughhead type role to support Cloke in the future.

I reckon Reid will be the better player though and could be a star. I like the fact we intend to give him a run at CHB and he could be the missing piece of the puzzle there. From all reports he is getting stronger and another pre-season will do him the world of good. He has all the attributes and once he has the confidence at AFL level that he has at VFL level we will see the best of him.

Correct. He kicked 8 I think for Willy 2's and for memory he only played 3 quarters. He was in the Willy 1's for Buckley's comeback game and kicked 4 and looked really impressive, as most people did on the end of a Buckley pass.

They are both on our list so why would we have to choose between them. If they are both playing well they will both be in the side. If either don't play well its back to the seconds or off the list. How anyone can choose between 2 young kids with less then 30 games between them.

I cant wait till the season starts so we don't have to put up with some of these stupid threads like the one "Who will struggle in 2009".

Agreed, so I'm not voting on this one. Actually, I think it's probably less than 5 AFL games or so (for both of them).

I just hope they lock Reid in the weights room and throw away the key for the summer. OK - let him out for his Sustagen, Growling Dog or whatever fix.

Ditto.
Dawes has dark hair, so should be a bigger hit with the ladies. Reid is blond so should be a bigger hit with the Mum's.

Dawes hasnt made collingwood look stupid by taking ridiculous set shots at goal. i was happy with Rieds debut but ever since he has done nothing.

Dawes has impressed me.

Good on reid if he does improve im just saying that he has done nothing to impress.

How many players walk straight in to the Seniors?
Dont crucify young players too soon. You might be on the money now but instant mega star staus is very rare. Go Reid, Go Dawes.

first of all ried and dawes walked into the side due to lack of available players (ried with rocca last year and this year, and dawes only debuted because of the absence didak, rocca, and ried).

i am not playing down what they have done.

I am judgeing on what i have seen and i have seen little from reid and more from dawes.

Don't think Rus can play on the flank. He needs to be coming out of the goal square to be at his most effective. Dawes will probably only play if one of Cloke or Rocca are out.

I'd like to see Leon start in the middle myself with O'Bree and Pendles. Happy with Dale on the wing and I'd have Marty on the other.

I'm starting to get off topic though.

Reid should be given an opportunity at CHB next year. Dawes will get his crack in the forward line and will eventually be part of a very good forward set-up where Rus will lead from the square and Cloke and Dawes will alternate between FF and CHF depending on match-ups.

All in all it will be a win-win for Pies fans. Let's just keep our fingers crossed that it turns out that way.
