Thinking of the rucks next year Rob is not the only one that will be disadvantaged at Cba’s.
Xerri,Witts,Nank,Darcy,Briggs,Meek,Oscar are all pretty well bolted to the ground.
TDK, Jackson, Draper, Bryan are your jumping types and should benefit.
The chance of a patella injury would keep Filthy out of the centre now for me, happy to have him
relief ruck around the ground. Not wanting to labour the point but I hope we are thinking of giving
Moose Maley a look at cba relief for Rob, reckon he would have the best leap of them all.
You can understand now, why we were chasing Draper .......Moose has a great leap, so a pretty good backup option, as is McAndrew at 210cm, who now presents as an option as a leaping ruck

Love to see some proof. Not saying there isnt any, but i cant remember anyone bringing up rule changes when discussing ROB during the season or his extension.

Only post i can see from you is the the following:

For those that dont want to click this is what you said once the season was over and our extension of ROB was almost 3 months old:

"If the rules change to stop negating rucks and ROB is the "best negating ruck" then basically we're ****ed"

I just searched ‘ruck rules’ and there numerous posts about it around August 5.

I would suggest there would have been strong industry discussions .....and the rule was only implemented after Club feedback

ROB might have been already close to final negotiations B4 the rule change was rumoured .....however, I don't think it would have had a material impact on ROB's Contract negotiations .....we needed a mature ruck, who else was there

Trent Ormond-Allen. He has the element of surprise.

I must be missing something with McAndrew because I can't say I've ever seen this "leap" with him. He's been way more a stand and deliver ruckman to my eye.

I guess when you're 6ft 11 there's no need to leap when you're pitted up against vertically challenged SANFL rucks?

He did a pretty big leap off the Norwood playing list

Unpopular opinion

The rule changes will help us

ROB is actually a decent ruckman when he jumps at the footy. The negating / timing thing is something he's become obsessed with.

ROB is also a good mark when in form. Now that he can't just lumber from stoppage to stoppage with his crappy ruckwork, the kick behind play role becomes his one wood again.

Nicks thinks we are a grinding, contested, stoppage team. Even though we've played some scintillating attacking football under Nicks, when pressured we revert to cautious play, worried about turnover and being opened up.

Fast, chaotic, breakneck speed football is better for us

How come your search function didn’t show up the early August discussion? You don’t seem to have addressed this, your initial post was straight up wrong.

This has to be the single stupidest rule change ever and its single handedly going to ruin careers. One of the greatest things about AFL was the ability to play players in any position. Even in ruck contests etc. Now they have made a pathetic unneeded change to the ruck rule and you have to ask wtf for? It means only tall rucks with elite jumps will get drafted and it matters not about how useless they are around the ground. So ROB deserves to be smashed in the ribs now? if I was ROB and the Crows I would sue the AFL if he gets injured. We dont have to like ROB to recognise an idiotic complaint from Geelong forcing a rule change because they were embarrassed they only had jumper rucks who got butchered in the ruck contests.

What you are forgetting with this new rule, is that it's simply taking the intent back to when the small centre circle was introduced .....the purpose being to reduce the knee injuries from knee knocks

B4 that, Rucks could take the long run-up and jump into the opposing Ruck, using momentum as a weapon

Again, it's the Coaches that have abused the rule to favour their style of Ruck ......this change corrects back to the original ......you can't say, what we've been seeing isn't ugly

Im imagining the new rule in the centre will look like a basketball tap but with a run up? Interesting if theres some non rucks with big vertical leaps getting a bigger absolute height. Im starting to lean towards Thilthorpe lead ruck

It was imagined as a 2 or 3 step jump .....however the original rule was intended for the vagaries of the bounce, not a perfect throw-up, which we'll now get

Thilthorpe is too valuable IMO to risk knee injuries, centre bounce rucking .....he has a history of leg / knee injuries

Its really a stupid rule that the AFL can not justify. So a Ruckman blocking the fall of the ball is illegal but a Ruckman with a natural jump can absolutely pound their opposing ruckman with a knee to the ribs. Its ****ing pathetic. Thilthorpe is not a big jumper either btw. This rule has totally ****ed our ruck strategy up to appease ****ing Geelong, yet again.

Who cares whether its ugly. What we will see now is some teams absolutely dominate the ruck. Instead of the AFL creating an even playing field they have basically handed the keys to cbas to select teams next year. It was a dumb change and totally ill thought out.

I wouldnt put Thilthorpe anywhere near a CBA next year.

Were you irate about the Ruck fairness B4 2023 ? .....nah, you've gone off half cocked again

Because all we are doing is going back to the period predating when Rucks started to cross the centre line ......people get outraged at any change, without thinking it through

The 10-meter centre circle for rucks was introduced in 2005 to limit the run-up and reduce knee injuries caused by collisions at centre bounces. The AFL decided to implement the rule after months of debate, and it has since been credited with significantly reducing posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) injuries to ruckmen
What ...suddenly going back to what the centre circle was introduced for, is now going to cause knee injuries ...I beg to differ

The centre line was introduced in 1982 to prevent ruckmen from wrestling prior to the ball-up. The 10m circle was introduced in 2005 to limit the length of the ruckmen's run-ups, as posterior cruciate ligament injuries caused by front-on knee clashes at centre ruck contests had become a common problem over the previous years.

I never said knee, I said ribs as ruckmen will now start getting knees and studs into the rib and groin area. There was a reason the change came in. Going back to it is predictable 100% a complaint by some teams who have weak ruck and needed their players to jump at the ball to have a chance. In other words, Geelong!

And, if you have been watching ....incidences of knees into the ribs has been penalised .....it's hard though to do much damage with a 2-3 step run-up

You're just looking to be outraged ....about anything ....and what's this GEEL phobia ..only kids have these conspiracy theories

ok, you run at me while i run at you in the circle and i will jump knee first into your ribs and you tell me how you didnt feel a thing

Same.

If ROB can't win his fair share of taps... to advantage... we may as well go in with someone else like Curtin to have 4 players roving to a losing tap.

I don’t think anyone disagrees that he’d be a better ruck than ROB.

But ruck is simply a less important position than key forward.

The current balance is perfect for Thilthorpe, we need to start picking a few more rucks in the later list spots so we can find a replacement.

Nothing to do with Geelong. But we extended our ruck knowing this rule was coming in. It was us that totally ****ed our ruck strategy.
