08 draft good for talls, however its much harder to 'place' talls vs smalls due to differences in stages of development

hard to convince some vic metro kids to come to sa due to the 'stigma of the city of adelaide in this business'. they are currently having problems with one melbourne potential recruit on this issue. much easier for country lads.

further to last point, very hard to get sa boys who have moved to melbourne back home as they enjoy the lifestyle of the bigger cities. very little interest in recent yrs to get anyone over here except for players really struggling like moran, massie, stevens

draft picks, would take watts at 1 if he was a victorian team, but would nat at 1 if he was from a wa team. watts is an absolute athletic freak , nat aint bad either

names mentioned around crows darft pick 10 were hurley, lisle, mc kernanm stephen hill, as well as sa players hartlett, johnson, broadbent and davis (?)

sidebottoms pace and agility has been poor in testing but he is a cracking country lad

nothing really ground breaking i suppose

Just stated on Channel 10 news that Adelaide wont necessarily be going for best available player this year - Pretty much confirms we'll definetely be going tall with pick number 10

If Hartlett slides and we dont select him I wont be a happy chappy

well, at least Sidebottom is a country lad; meaning if he's available at pick10, he's one of the players that moving to adelaide might not be an issue for.
but everything else is typical...no one wants to live in Adelaide, etc...players prefer to live in melbourne than play for a team they may have grown up supporting, and draft potentials already ruling out Adelaide as a possible destination for a football career.

Interesting that when pressed for SA names he did not name Schoenmakers...makes me think he might be one thay want!!

Rendell said the opposite. He said the first 2 rounds you definitely go for the best available, and chop and choose after that based on needs.

I actually think we may go an SA lad.

firstly: As said above he mentioned if he was a WA club he'd pick Nat and if VIC club would pick Watts. If an Hartlett/Johnston is available at pick 10 I reckon we'll go for one of them (unless another gun slides).

secondly: He mentioned some KPP around the mark who they were looking at incl Hurley (probably unavailable), Vickery (same), McKernan, Lisle, along with Ziebell etc but didn't mention Johnston or any SA kids. Then, when asked about the SA boys he said 'I can't tell you that' (paraphrased).

My tip Lewis Johnston (unless somehow Vickery, Hurley, Ziebell, Sidebottom [not sure if they want him -surely!] happen to fall through the cracks).

I actually hope we get Johnston over Hartlett now but will be happy with either. I think there is enough depth of midfielders to go 2nd round.

I thought that as well. Surely 2nd round though. Even if they would love an SA lad he has to be the best available or close to it. ie if Johnston or Hartlett were rated number 13 on their list they may take one of them at pick 10 because SA lad. Surely Shoenmakers would be 2nd pick. Maybe if the next available at pick 10 is a mid they'll go schoenmakers at pick 28 (if available).

Don't get me started...

Hartlett is all class, an absolute ripper of a talent. If we have the chance to draft him and pass, I'll be fuming.

We should take a midfielder first, unless of course the 'A graders' are gone, then I guess we should take a punt on a KPP. But given our recent success with drafting tall key forwards, I'm worried we'll stuff it up again. Surely that's bound to change sometime isn't it, surely? :o

This is a crucial draft, we've got to nail it.

No chance sidebottom will be there at 10. If he is and we dont take him....well do i need to say anything?
Rendell gave away nothing, mentioned about 10 diffrent names including second and third rounders.

As for the ch10 report, i didnt like that Craigy was having a good look at Mckernan. If we take him at 10 before say a Johnston, trengrove, sidebottom (wont be there), swift, Blease, the list could go on i will pull my hair out!!!!!!!!!!!!

wouldnt he be having a 'good look' at all reasonable prospects?

I've asked this before, but have never got a response IIRC:

Why are people so off McKernan?

I don't know either.

From what I've seen there's plenty to work with.

He probably wouldn't be my personal choice for pick 10, but I'd still be happy to see him in Crows colours.

from the one game i've seen ... Mckernan's ruck work looks good, big leap, quick, good kick, occasional bad field kicking, bit of agro, looks like he is still growing into his body... i reckon he looks ok

why the negative attitude to him?

Just saw NC on CH7 on the draft and he said virtually that we will be going for a tall forward.

However if a standout midfield was still there that would have to be considered.

The ability and talent of the midfield player would have to be pretty good to get them to change their minds.

What I thought was interesting though was his comment that the first 15 were top class, whereas from there down most were all about the same talent.

McKernan tested incredibly well at draft camp for someone his height and weight in regards to 20m sprint and agility test. I would certainly be happy with him at 10. The only negative from my point of view is that he is a Vic Metro boy.

Again not agaisnt him, just not pick 10.

The only reason I can muster is that they're afraid of Sellar syndrome because he will play as a KPP in the AFL, but there's plenty of reasons to still think otherwise. His body is as ready made for a tall as they come, perhaps Hurley being an exception at this draft. He still has a high degree of athleticism, great leap, good with his hands above his head and solid work effort. His DC results were even better than I was expecting, 2nd (behind NicNat) for the standing vert leap and 6th in agility! And thats not even mentioning his natural flair for football, he knows where its going and he's almost inadvertently there half the time.

i could be wrong here but i thought that comment was in regards to the quality of players on each clubs list. ie there is normally a top 15 but then its very marginal after that.

Perhaps we'll see if someone else heard it.

I was doing something else at the time and my better half claims I can't do two things at once.
