Re: Rhys O'Keeffe

Rhys O'Keeffe - (D) 8 August 1990, 187cm 80kg. SA/North Adelaide/Kilburn

"Jason McCartney: Rhys O’Keeffe: Rhys is a left-footer, who like Broadbent, uses the ball really well. He played across half-back and also in the midfield. He had 20 disposals and showed he can win his own footy with three hard-ball-gets."

"Kevin Sheehan: Rhys O'Keeffe – A dashing medium-defender at 187cm, O'Keeffe, from North Adelaide, has also been prominent for his team in all three matches. Averaging 17 disposals, with four hard-ball gets, along with nine handball receives, indicates his ability to win the ball in contested situations, as well as provide great run through defence."

"Jason McCartney: Rhys O'Keeffe - He ended up with 20 disposals, but what I liked about him was that he had five hard-ball gets. He played as a rebounding, running half-back; he's a left-footer and he looks to be really hard at it. He runs the lines and is a straight ahead type of player. As a taller, running half-back, Rhys really complimented South Australia's key defenders. I thought on the day, he was one of their better players and I hadn't seen him before."

"Jason McCartney:Rhys O'Keeffe – Rhys was named South Australia's most valuable player. I saw him earlier in the carnival play off half-back and he was really neat. He doesn't waste the ball by foot, but he pushed into the midfield in the back end of the carnival and he was great. His work inside and run-and-carry helped the likes of Lewis Johnston, Ryan Schoenmakers and Paul Cahill in front of goal."

"HFF 07: RHYS O'KEEFE 187cm 80kg HBF/BP North Adelaide
Won alot of ball for SA in the champs running off HB, was always dangerous, kicking long off both sides of his body, was always running and has good work rate and is willing to suceed.
PROS: - Kicks long, work rate, Skills, Pace, Reads play well,
CONS - none to note thus far
PREDICTION: 15 - 35"

"ant555: Rhys O’Keefe – 187cm, 80kg – North Adelaide.
Running half back / midfielder who won a lot of the ball over the champs for SA. Has good pace and excellent skills. Kicks both sides and is a lovely long kick of the ball. Work rate and run from half back was excellent and he showed good touch when he was played in the middle. Smart around the stoppages.
Prediction – pick 10 to 30."

"Quigley: O’Keefe (DOB – 8/8/90, Ht – 187, Wt – 80)
Whereas you often have guys on Big Footy who become flavour of the month and are pumped up a lot more than is realistic there are others who are overlooked by most for no apparent reason. O’Keefe falls squarely into the latter category. You read the player reviews and I am yet to see a bad thing written about him and yet no-one has him going earlier than the late second round. For me I think he could easily be a sneaky late first rounder. Played predominantly on the half back flank in the Champs but moved to half forward against NSW and showed that he could also be a very dangerous half forward at AFL level. The thing that sets O’Keefe apart from virtually everyone in this draft is the quality of his disposal. He is probably in the top 5 for me as far as quality of disposal goes. He is a left footer who reads the play very well and delivers into the 50 as well as anyone available this year. He has good height for a midfield / flanker and is a solid young guy. He covers a fair bit of ground and although he does not have great pace he seems to be able to create separation from his match up fairly easily. He has good hands including overhead and can take a good mark. His quality kicking skills extend to his kicking for goal."

Re: Rhys O'Keeffe

Another club might have been after Hislop. ;)

Probably the Saints.

I don't understand why Richmond went for a re-tread when RO'K was there and he can kick.

Hislop can play, but he has poor skills and an attitude...

Richmond were last year's wooden spooners, but Wallace keeps topping up their list with second hand players in McMahon, Thomson and Hislop.

Stupid.

Re: Rhys O'Keeffe

I clicked on the link and it took me straight to the Mark Harvey / Ben Bucovaz interview......poor old Buca looks devastated....looks under more duress than an Al Queda hostage. :D

Gee Mark Harvey is natural

Re: Rhys O'Keeffe

I think this guy is extremely underrated but i'm probably judging him by his "youtube" highlight packages. Seems to good decision making skills under pressure and i dare say, it's what some of our current players lack. Also a beautiful left foot kick and a pretty accurate set shot. Could be a gun goal kicking mid in a couple of years.

Geez, is Harvey a disgraceful public speaker or what? He can't string a sentence together.

Re: Rhys O'Keeffe

Sounds like we have a good mix of personalities and leadership down at the club and it is a great atmosphere for young players to come into :thumbsu::thumbsu:. O'Keeffe sounds like he has a good head on his shoulders even though he came across as nervous in his first interview post-draft.

Re: Rhys O'Keeffe

He'll have to work damn hard to get a spot in our team in the future. Good luck to the kid, I hope he makes it. He certain has plenty of competition early in his early for his favourite spot but once Scotland, Houla and Stevens are gone things will open up nicely for a player of his type.

btw isn't it great not to feel we need every kid we draft to turn into a superstar? :thumbsu:

Re: Rhys O'Keeffe

I can see O'Keeffe forcing Bannister off the list.

O'Keeffe is a great lkick and another tall utility like Bannister.

The GC draft concessions might ensure O'Keeffe gets a good run on our list.

I'd like to see ROK play as a HFF if he gets a game this year.

ROK pushed forward in his Youtube highlights package and converted his shots with a technique Fisher can only dream of.

A very impressive kick.

Re: Rhys O'Keeffe

I can see O'Keeffe forcing Bannister off the list because he has a great left foot and another tall utility.

The GC draft concessions might ensure O'Keeffe gets a good run on our list.

Joseph is the bigger threat to Bannister. If he can someone figure out how to tag and get the ball at the same time Bannister's career is over.

Re: Rhys O'Keeffe

Don't think ROK will play that much this season.

Look for him to put some solid performances in for the Bullants seniors and he might get a few games towards the end of the season to keep him hungry for more.

Having said that who would have expected Browney to play 13 odd games last season? So, ROK could follow suit if he performs well in the magoos from the beginning of the season because he can make some sort of impact straight away with his great skills.
