And why you're thinking about that please understand that quite a few people here have known Ric for a period of time and this news is shocking to them on a number of levels, not only are they thinking that they've lost someone who was always polite and likable, but now they're contending with him doing something that they didn't think he was capable of.

Your throw away line of "burn in hell" is understandable, but for plenty of posters who both read and post here this news is really difficult to swallow.

So please, show some understanding.

He might have served the football club well as an employee but the allegations made against him are of the most serious and abhorrent nature. Whether true or not, he chose not to face those allegations and instead took his own life.

There are obviously a lot of very upset people coming to grips with the news. On the one hand people (including those at the club) speak very fondly of him as a team manager and long time Hawthorn / Box Hill person. I have no doubt those sentiments are genuinely held and obviously nobody had any idea of the allegations of a deeply disturbing (and criminal) double life until now. On the other hand, if there is any truth to the published allegations, then he was a truly horrible criminal

The club should delete the story from its website.

This thread should not be deleted but it should probably be renamed 'Ric Sprake dead.' People can choose how they wish to discuss the issue. It is the lead story on The Age website and relates to a Hawthorn employee. This is a Hawthorn forum. We should be mature enough to discuss it.

I believe that Hawthorn should take down from their website the accolade towards Ric.
To some small degree I am trying to represent Ric's sons point of view here.
Imaging how hard it was to take on your father over this. Imagine how many people didn't believe him when he first made the accusations.
His courage if bringing charges against his father is tremendous.
Hawthorn, by keeping their accolade about Ric on their site, is virtually saying they don't believe his son.
They are inflicting great pain on Ric's son.

I will predicate this with allegedly, however why would his own son make the allegations and why is he committing suicide in a hotel room.
If he allegedly r*ped his own son on numerous occasions and as young as 4 years old, it doesn't matter what this 'man' did in his life otherwise and who knew him or didn't this makes this 'man' one the most heinous of all humans. A truly despicable person that was too gutless to even face their crimes and deserves no recognition of any kind.
Just because he was a Hawthorn person and people on here knew him I will refuse to have any respect of any latitude and will feel free to say so.

I met Ric 15 years ago and have nothing but respect and admiration for the man I knew and worked alongside.
Ric always had time for anyone, treated everyone he worked with as equals and was always willing to help someone out in need.
I can assure those that didn't know Ric, not only are the Hawthorn and Box Hill football clubs better places for having him work there, but so are many of the young players he played pseudo parent too. He was held in very high regard by most folks at both clubs I had dealings with.

News of both Ric's passing and the allegations are very hard to take at the moment. RIP to the decent man I knew and deepest condolences to his family, friends and everyone involved in the other matter.
