I Want my team to be angry when they loose, not just shrug their shoulders and go well we expected to loose any way.

Aiming some where in the middle for fear of failure is bullshit , theses are not 3rd graders doing some naplan "don't hurt my feelings " Cotten wool warped ,everyones equal ******* y gen love fest"

Aiming for the middle and not expecting to be higher than the middle are two entirely different things.

And they both suck. Aim high back yourself and your team mates in and when it works you believe in what you are doing and the people around you.

Just my opinion.

So if you guys are all aiming for the top, and expecting to be the top, let's say we don't win the premiership this year; does that make Ken Hinkley a failure as a coach, who should be sacked? And if not, why not?

I am thankful that the club and the coaching group have the agenda to build correctly and sustainably and not quickly.

OK it's not literally like that. nobody genuinely believes we're going to finish top and bowl through collingwood sydney hawthorn and geelong to the grand final. but that's something you should never have to say as a port supporter. it's about having the mentality but still understanding reality. this is our mentality, the port adelaide mentality. expect to win, be convinced you're the best and pretty soon you will be the best. so many clubs right now have a shocking mentality. the west coast eagles, adelaide crows "we're 1-4 let's look to next year" mentality. i see this club as different to most in the league and it's this brash arrogance that helped us get to the big league in the first place.. if we lose this aggression and become just another "well hopefully in a few years our list will be the "right age" to push for a flag" we will have nothing and stand for nothing. have you seen how the GWS and gold coast fans have been programmed? i mean their fans put "2017 premiers" in their signatures, lol. they've been brainwashed into expecting mediocrity until "the time is right". i grew up with my team dominating the league for years, three top of the ladders before a flag and it should of been much more. i'm not going to roll over and just chill for a few more years while we "get ready for a finals assault" when i know we can achieve anything we want.

I'm not saying we shouldn't hope for the best, and everyone of our players should be aiming to play as well as they can and let any prospective finals campaign fall as it may.

The nature of the modern game doesn't generally permit teams to go from where we were last year to being a top 4 side (with 1 or 2 exceptions). It should definitely be a target, but we shouldn't beat ourselves up for not getting there.

Who's talking about beating themselves up? I'm definately not going to beat myself up if we lose, but on one condition; that we make those other bastards earn every one of those dam 4 points. If we are going to go down to the Geelong's and Hawthorns, then so be it. But we go down swinging, we go down with our heads held high like desperate men, leaving nothing on the ground. We don't concede anything to anyone, no matter how bloody good they think they are.

As important as the right processes are, they don't mean shit if you haven't got the right attitude and will to win. I don't want to be a 'Dolly the sheep clone', and think like every other team. This mentality of 'maybe next year' or 'the year after that' is BS & not part of our DNA. We don't pack a white flag in our bags before we go to games, instead we pack 143 years of proud PAFC history. We go into every game expecting to win, nothing more, nothing less.

Being loose around the ground could be a good thing. You should expect to have some loose players at times, that way we might not lose.

Not even spell check can save my spelling..... I like nothing loose or loseor aaarrrr fuccckit...

I had lunch with Vlad today and I can confirm that there are only 4 premiership points at stake in this game.

I'm trying to define the difference between what we all hope for (winning every game) and setting reasonable expectations by which both we as supporters will judge whether the club has had a good or a bad year, and the board will judge our football ops. Part of this is coming up with a realistic path by which we'd become one of the strong teams in the competition who would challenge for premierships over a six year period. I'll go back to what Fos once said:
There is great merit and noble achievement in winning a premiership.
That to be successful each of us must be active, aggressive, and devoted to the cause.
We agree that success is well within our reach and have confidence that each member of both the team and managaement will suffer personal sacrifices for the common end. Also we know that, should we after striving to our utmost after giving everything still not be successful our efforts will become a further part of this club’s enviable tradition.
Finally, we concede there can be honour in defeat, but to each of us, honourable defeat of our club and guernsey can come only after human endeavour on the playing field is completely exhausted.
I believe that our club doesn't have the makeup yet to be a premiership contender. Therefore what I want to see each and every game is the exhausting of human endeavour that our club is built upon. However, I also believe that by doing this, with the talented youth that we have at the moment, and a few nice key position pick-ups, then within 3-5 years, if we do this every game, we will undoubtedly win premierships.
