Richmond's current "Champions"

having a discussion with a few mates the other week about champions at our clubs that we support. my mates being west coast and essendon supporters they said Jim Hird, Matty Lloyd, Chris Judd, Daniel Kerr, Dean Cox. I still am unsure of who Richmonds so called "Champions" are i could really only think of richo. anyone got any views on this?

No one on our list has earnt the right ... haven`t in a long time .

Richo is the closest but i would not give that mantle (prepares for barrage)

Of the nineties , Matty Knights was a ****teenth off it but ... but i just can`t give it to him

Dale Weightman was our last Champion ... Then the Wizard

I would say Richo is the only player at Richmond player at the moment to be considered a champion. If kicking 695 goals and counting and being the clubs leading goal kicker for 11 times (equal to Jack Titus) does not warrant the champion title then I don't know what does.
There are no other players for a long time that comes close to that title (though Knights came close).

I wouldn't personally deny Richo the status, When he's good, he's brilliant, when he's bad....... It's usually the delivery from the midfield.

If Browny didn't snap his leg last year I think the title would have sat comfortably with him.

Simmonds is starting to show signs that it may be in him also but that would be it.

I always thought Mark Coughlin had the game to become a champion midfielder....unfortunately it looks like injuries are going to rob him of this opportunity. Will still be a very good player when he comes back...maybe not champion.

Roach, Raines, Weightman, Cloke, Rioli.........I'm not sure the best of last 20 years could match that crew at the one time.

Champion is a word that gets thrown around too much.
Out of the players you mentioned above only Hird has the right to call himself a champion.
Judd will earn the right soon enough. Lloyd may earn the right one day, probably verging on the cusp now.
Kerr nowhere near it yet. Cox, don't make me laugh.

Richo is HHF. So back off on Richo not being a champion!! He will kick to 700+ this Friday night and stick it to anyone questioning it

Royce took CHF and was sitting on the fence myself with Richo due only to his kicking, but stats are stats and when you rack his up, it is extremely impressive and has him right up there with the best.

(and Knightsy was definately a champion-without doubt!)

Take away the final against Essendon and l honestly doubt you would say that. People on here are far too biased for that game... Knights was a gun when Richmond needed him, but no way a champion of the game.
