Thought he was very good and in touch with the club. He should come on more often.

He seems very confident that Pav will stay and is not an issue. Also loyalty for CC stood through again.

He did not seem overly keen on Sumich. Hope I read that right.

If Pav stays and we get someone like Laidley then maybe we can recover the ground we lost this season. We have not been far away, just not rub of green this year.

freo wont be able to get laidley, he seems to passionate about the roos.

i reckon harvey would be in front for sure i reckon, we'll see how he goes in the coming weeks.

Is interesting to read the North Melbourne supporters on their board. Laidley is no certainty to carry on there next year. Many want him to make the finals and then win one before they have confidence in him. Maybe that will turn Laidley to look for someone who really do want him ...

They have started negotations with him but some board members don't want him.

iscah, why would we want Laidley?

Is his win/loss record better than Connolly's?

OK I did the research myself...

Connolly - 67 wins, 62 losses at 52%

Laidley - 51 wins, 52 losses, 1 draw at 49.5%

Not saying we should have re-signed Connolly, but why would we want a coach who has barely done enough to keep the wolves at bay at North Melbourne?

You have to look a little bit further than the win/loss record though don't you???
Laidley has taken a team that was roundly touted as a wooden spoon contender to win 10 of their last 12, and now sit in 3rd spot. And they've done it without spending up to the salary cap, very poor facilities, sold home games etc.

CC took a team that was roundly touted as a premiership contender to 13th position.

That's why a lot of people consider Laidley worth more than a passing glance.

That's what i wanna see. The team will lift. Got to want to play for the coach.

Thats right i think we will see a different attitude by the Freo boys towards there football and dont forget we are still in the hunt for a finals berth

Be serious! There is a reason so many pundits call them the over achieving roos. Do you think any of us could say that about Freo and keep a straight face?

It says in the age Hart also said on radio it was likely Bell won't play on next season?

I had heard a few rumblings about that but didn't think it was actually possible.

Would be a big loss to the team at the moment.

Many reasons. But just to address the point you raise ..

It depends on the cattle he had. For the vast majority of his years there, they have been tipped to be close to or winners of the wooden spoon. Fremantle have never in Connolly's time being perceived to have a lesser squad than North Melbourne. So comparitively Laidley has performed exceptionally well with what he had to play with .. Also the lack of stability of the club in terms of having to sell away games, not sure of where their future home is etc has been admirably dealt with.

I have the opposite view, and thought that North Melbourne had the one of the most under-performing lists in the AFL. It's midfield is chock full of talent. they propbably have the most consistent ruck pairing in the AFL. They have a solid defence. Their attack is weak but like West Coast when you have the likes of Harvey and Grant running through there, who needs forwards.

I wrote a couple of weeks ago that I thought they would beat us because they have a better balanced list.

Laidley has only had one good year which is this year. I reckon they way under-performed last year.

Of course it is always terribly difficult to judge these things and you are welcome to your opinion, but to be fair to Laidley you seem to one of the few who hold it. I will be wrapt if we get Laidley, though I fear he is too loyal and will stay with the Roos.

Loyalty is one thing - but Dean is nearing 40, and has a young family. The Roos can pay him about $150,000 per year if all reports are true. Freo's offer will likely start at around $300,000...

They'll usually say "the money doesn't matter", but in the coaching game there are no guarantees, and perhaps the remuneration package might be worth more than just a fleeting consideration, as who know how long you'll have the earning power as a senior coach...

Personally I hope your assessment is right, I think he is just what we need, failing sheedy of course.

Given that Carlton poached Deni$ off their hands while he theoretically looked safe as houses at North, thats possible.

Good points there Dagg With Harris a very good clearance player they are very strong in the middle and I don't think they have had many injuries.I don't think they have change the game plan, last year they chipped around under pressure late in the games because they were not fit enough.Still I rate him Okay.If he stays archer, sinclair, simpson, harvey and grant must be close to going it will be interesting
