They can double team him if they want. Our 1 wood over everyone else in the comp is our contested marking power and we have Tex, Fog, Dawson, Curtin also in and around the forward line. Even Keays can take contested marks up there. It is a huge risk for them to neglect others
For sure, but out of our forwards, RT is the one who can go bananas, kick 8 and destroy a team. He's the first forward they will cover. Mac Andrew will go to him after their clash last game, and then someone cutting across him or falling back into the zone.

That's the benefit of the three headed monster, if one doesnt get you, the others will.

Don't forget, a few games back our key forwards were held, but the small forwards got off the leash and kicked a fair few.

WOW

That's a very early call re Logan McDonald who hasn't played at all this year with injury.
Yeah I still stand by it... I'm not impressed at all by LM ... imho he will be an average footballer... could be won't but I still can't see him dominating.

Both adelaide and sydney did pretty well in that draft.

Cook played by well on the weekend before being concussed. There's still hope for both pedlar and cook.

Yep, different players. Those numbers for a young KF in their 70 games are nothing to be sneezed at

One of the arguments for McDonald over Thilthorpe was always that McDonald was a "safer" selection. At 196cm you know exactly what kind of player you're getting - he's going to be a key position player, mark-on-the-lead kind of player. Stick him in your forward line and build around him.

Whereas with Thilthorpe, there was always the lingering question - would he work as key position player at AFL level? Could he end up as a ruck? When you're spending pick 1, the last thing you want is to end up with a jack of all trades and a master of none.

Fortunately, as it turns out, he's both a quality ruck and a potential superstar key position forward.

Thilthorpe has done it in a much poorer side mind you.

I was never sold on McDonald, good prospect and potentially a bit better than that.... but vanilla.
If we had got Band 1 compo for Brad Crouch do you think we would have taken Logan as well Or Elijah Hollands or Will Philips?

In hindsight probably would have been best to trade it away if we had of gotten it, notoriously poor draft only Thilthorpe and Max Homes (pick 20) Erol Gulden (32 but academy) are stars of the game (JUH is off the rails). It's that bad the if we did a re draft Port's Lachie Jones would be top 10 players that are currently playing from that draft.

Let’s play a game. Who else in the competition do you think could hit that kick so perfectly on their non preferred side off one step around a player on the mark…

You go first.
Pendlebury, Jeremy Cameron and Tex..... Not too many skillful two sided players left in the league

Pendles and Cameron are both lefties. No way either of them hit that pass on their non preferred right.

The only player I can think of who would be able to do it as regularly as Tex is Sidebottom. That bloke has an amazing non preferred left foot.

If I had to make a choice I would've said Hollands, and that might have gone poorly

At this stage, the drop off after Thilthorpe/Holmes/Gulden/Treacy is nuts

I love how all the footy shows & news reports showed Filthy wrestling with Mac (and whacking him in the chest) but not the actual incident of him getting "accidentally" kicked in the head on the final siren.
I guess that's not good for the look of the game..& might negatively affect participation numbers in QLD!

Thilthorpe can do a great job on his left, and so too Fog. It’s a really undermentioned and under-appreciated, and I think it’s the additional dimensions of having dual-sided skills that makes our forward line very dangerous.

If he gets through the preseason healthy - he will be primed to absolutely dominate next year.

It would be an absolute travesty to waste this guy in the Ruck.

Guy will kick 50+ next year.

Couldn't agree with me more on this. What a breakout year.

Currently 4th for goals, 7th for goal assists, 3rd for contested marks and 4th for marks inside 50.

And the big boys don't get any smaller as we head towards September!

Players averaging 1.4+ goals and over 20 touches a game in the AFL.

Izak Rankine.

We aint going deep into September without those two dominating.
Rachelle is 2 and 12 (mid/forward time seems to be the thing that splits these two)

Just turned 23 and 73 games in. The talk was his breakout year was going to be last year, such was his form over the pre-season of 23/24. Given our momentum to the end of 2023, how significant was his injury in the last trial game detriment to our start to the year in 2024?

No matter now, he has arrived.

I was hoping we would see at least one season with all of Thilthorpe, Fogarty and Walker playing good footy. It is happening. You couldn't underestimate how good Tex has been for both Fogarty, who lead the attack last year, and Thilthorpe, who is the number one this year. Of course, the skill of Rankine and Rachele and gut busting work of Keays and Neale-Bullen is all part of it. 6-7 more good games to go this season.

He has the credentials to be one of the greatest big forwards this state has produced. The last great, probably being Matthew Pavlich, and before him, Stephen Kernahan.

It feels pretty lucky to be a football tragic and witnessing the likes of Thilthorpe and Sam Darcy from the Bulldogs, just beginning to impose themselves week in week out, as big, athletic forwards, on the competition.
