Next weeks Eagles vs Crows game at subiaco will feel more like a funeral :( Maybe split the points with the crows as well. The funeral will be held next week and so many players from both teams will be present.

We aren't a charity.

I wholeheartedly hope we win that game.

3) delay the whole season .... Gets messy logistically but probably the fairest option to all involved.

There's no way they can do that. 9 stadium bookings, functions, flights, travel packages etc - every weekend. Would all be messed up, a logistical nightmare. People pre organise a lot of stuff around the fixture

Closest they could do is reschedule this round till after Round 23 and delay finals, every other round continues as normal. But even that could get messy.

Realistically I can only see them cancelling the Adelaide game - either declaring it a draw, or making the round 23 game an a 8 point. Which has the issue of crows losing a home game (or Cats if they move the game to Adelaide).

The whole thing is really messed up. Real feel for the family and all the players & staff that knew him across multiple clubs.

I just can't belive a son can do that to his father. I'm just shocked! My thoughts go out to his family, the crows and everyone that knew him.

Those are my thoughts, how can things get so bad, having young kids, I can't imagine these innocent little things growing into a person that could do that another person, let alone your own parent, shocking really:( very sad news, thoughts are with all involved, family and all the people he touched during his years at various footy clubs.

On the game situation, if they decide not to play, Cats should get the points, as should any other team coming up, us included. Sounds harsh but what a massive disadvantage to any team who is scheduled to play them, and now gets either no points, or a draw, can't happen and would be massive outcry if it did. I know this is all bigger tha footy, but it's still a multi million dollar competition. It's not like the Sheffield sheild when that was cancelled, it just wouldn't work.

He recently did an interview with Robbo where he admits to being a lousy father to his kids when they were growing up due to commitments to football.
Said they were patching up the differences and moving forward, this was only a few months back.

Absolute tragedy. Phil was a great man.

This is the worst thing that can ever happen to a family. My thoughts are with them in this dark time.

It has been a very bad week for football also.

Every weekend we sit down to escape into the world of footy but it seems that more and more the troubles of society are creeping into our sanctuary.

The AFL has a big challenge this weekend to manage the fixture with the right amount of sensitivity.

I think they need to do what cricket Australia did with the first test, it's up to the players, if they want to play, then play, if they can't, totally understandable.

Tragic news, it's just really sad. I feel for his wife, knowing that your son murdered your husband must be truly awful - and she'll have to do it all in the public eye.

On a side note, can we all be a bit classy and leave speculation on the causes (a couple of obvious possibilities) alone until more news comes to light - it's just not the time or place.

His own family life hasn’t been as simple.

His obsession with football at times drove a wedge. At West Coast, after the game was played on a Saturday, Walsh the next day would fly to Melbourne and back, 10 hours all up, just to watch two hours of live footy. He reckons it got even worse when he was Port Adelaide.

Asked if he was a good father, he said: “That’s a really hard question.

“The bonus of me taking the Crows job is my son is 26 and my daughter is 22, so the collateral damage isn’t so big.

“But have I been a good father? To my son, I had a disconnect because of footy.

“I just immersed myself, got consumed and was selfish with as much time I committed to footy. I’m basically talking about my 10 years at Port Adelaide, just the desperation to win a premiership and I thought it was all about me, when it’s all about the players.

“I lost that connection and I’m trying to reconnect with my son, which I have done.

“In a selfish way, I taught my daughter to surf, and that’s my release, so when I go surfing, I take her. Now I’ve got my son into it as well and that’s what I should’ve done a long time ago.

“A couple of months ago, we all went surfing together at Middleton and it was almost the best day I’ve had ... ever. We all got a wave, went to the bakery on the way home, we smiled, and laughed and there was none of this stuff, that I’ve got Melbourne, then the Bulldogs, then Port. Just none of that.’’

Those days with the kids remind him that coaching is a lonely job.

“It is really lonely, this is lonely,’’ he says waving a hand around the empty office.

“I used to shut down all relationships because it was too hard to be in the moment with people, hard to be in their moment if you know what I mean.’’

Yep thats what i can see happening. A lot of players will find playing a way to help deal with the loss.

Will the funeral be next week, or will it be later because of the nature of the death?

First thoughts obviously but i can see one of three options.

1) geelong and adelaide mutually agree to two points each - no percentage change. Be a nice gesture on geelongs part and given where the teams sit atm - not a terrible outcome for either.

2). The entire afl write this round off - just eliminate it - probably not a great option. If its a top eights turn to play a minnow vs another top eight contender to play hawthorn or freo etc .... Gets messy - still could happen.

3) delay the whole season .... Gets messy logistically but probably the fairest option to all involved.

Feel free to add more scenarios if you think of another way
Like any other business have today off . Light day tomorrow basically day off for adelaide but discuss game day and play on sunday. Many businesses have this dilemna . 2 days off should be enough then you have to move on .
