Game Day Rnd 4 - Carlton v Bulldogs Game Day Discussion

There was some serious effort out there tonight, we should all be very pleased with that.

We are going to struggle to win any matches this season but it is a different team and club now and we will be rewarded if I can remain patient.

Is Kreuzers disposal efficiency a typo? 18.2%? That's quite amazing if true.
2 effective disposals out of 11 apparently.

Graham didn't have a good game either. Far too much being left to Crippa.

What a massive travesty of a game. If the AFL doesn't get a please ******* explain come Monday for the complete imbalance in the free kick count. If I was Bolts, I would be down there with a film of all the non-free kicks that should have been paid and the dodgy ones that were given to the dogs, including that farcical free kick of throwing it back to hard and fast.
Oh look, we're Richmond.

Considering the gulf in talent between the two teams, the final margin is a very promising sign.

Whilst the umpiring decisions drove me spare, they were not the reason why we lost.

Spot on Sheik and my best wishes to your camels.

You can also tell your camels that if they see 3 strange blokes prancing around in yellow t-shirts and shorts - they kick them in the nuts as hard as they can!!

He takes a mean mark Levi, but he has zero confidence kicking. Last week he was about 45 or so out, instead of taking hes time and taking a shot, he handballed to another player who took the shot. That was it for me, you can't be a forward and have no confidence kicking.
That was a pretty big one for me too. Happy for other players who aren't capable from 50 dishing off to Tuohy on the run for a bomb, but the main forward should be kicking those, even if he misses.
I'm happy with his work around the ground and his field kicking. Glad he pushed up a bit and provided a link up marking option, but we need him kicking goals and he isn't. HAS to be dropped next week. Jones and Jaksch have earned a call up, but will probably fail if being asked to play the main man. Would be happy for Rowe to play forward with Curnow and one of Jones or Jaksch though.

Does anyone know the details and severity of Thomas's injury. Was just starting to get some form. Would be very disappointing if it was serious.

Also I really thought casboult was making progress last year with sav Rocca as kicking coach.

From what I see, ball drop is too high, surely someone down at Carlton could tell him to lean over as much as possible and drop the ball as close to his foot as possible.

I mean have a look at plugger and dunstall's kicking action. Hunchbacks of nostradame
I have zero confidence he is going to be able to change it. It's such a shame, he would be a valuable contributor if he was even a mediocre kick for goal.

Wow ... So torn on this game.

Lots of positives - Plowman, Sumner, Lamb, Curnow ... Liking the young group we have ... And well done to Daisy over the last couple of weeks - having a dip.

Negatives ... Our number 1's ... Murph, Gibbs, Kruez (Weits excluded)

Also - passage of play when Sumner got thumped ... Who flew the flag ... All the young blokes, no 'leader' in sight. If it was the Hawks - tell me that hodge, Lewis etc wouldn't have been there.

Some blokes just simply aren't leaders no matter how much we want them to be. Having leadership thrust upon them can also be detrimental to their own game.
What are you talking about, Murph was one of the first there.

Casboult was good.

Yes kicking for goal blah blah.

Certainly plenty worse.
Nup. **** him. I'm over him. It doesn't matter anymore if he holds his marks.

Charlie Curnow has shown enough in three games to demonstrate that he can make it in the big time if he wants it.

I became a believer in Docherty tonight. I have been tough on him, (I am slower than most) but he has what it takes.

Byrne is a player, two clangers tonight, but a LOT of quality that overwhelmed the bad.

Plowman just one game but could be another (wait and see).

Love Gibbs, but reckon he will be our window into the first round at the end of the year. Lot of love... but long term thinking.

Finally the two rucks played decent games, still not enough though.

Phillips is well worth putting lots of game time into, he's a big man that moves extremely well for his size and his intensity and around the ground stuff was pretty damn good.
We need to assess whether he is the next Jacobs so we can get the trade done as soon as possible.

Just seems like a simple thing to implement, even if he exaggerates the action of bending over it can't be worse than it is now

That is the only thing he needs to do.

He is too upright when he kicks the ball.

Look at Lockett and Dunstall the two best kicks just about ever. Both were hunched over like Quasimodo when set shot kicking for goal in order to get the ball closer to the boot.

Haven't got anything against the bloke, but what's the point of Nick Graham?

Runs around all game long doing a whole lot of nothing.

Not damaging by foot, not fast, not tall, not a clearance machine, not a ball magnet, not a gun tagger. Nothing.

Would love him to develop into a Sam Mitchell type, but just don't see it happening.
Had a mare.......

The output of Daisy, Murph and Gibbs in the first half was abysmal. Graham was crap all night and Kerridge was pretty crap in the first half as well.

So our good mids gave nothing for a half and our vanilla players were really vanilla.

But we should drop Cas who busted his nut all night.?
You can't seriously be looking at Casboult on tonight's performance alone?

Lol, nothing could be worse than it is now. He could do a handstand, flick the ball up and do some kind of freaky donkey kick and I would have the same confidence in his goal kicking.

Completely agree.
That is a good back 5...and i'd say our 3rd tall defender wouldnt be at the club right now but put in another good tall and thats a great back 6.

Phillips has some weaknesses but shows some good signs as well.

Sumner has skill and poise that was very obvious.

Our kids and new guys are all showing glimpses so we should be happy with that.
The kids and the new guys are what keeps us going, well said.

Special mention to Matty Wright. Saw no reason in picking him up initially, wiping egg off my face 4 weeks on end now. He's shown plenty.

We still have Cuningham, McKay, Jack, hopefully a rejuvenated KJ & a committed DVR, to come. Doesn't matter whether we don't see Jack & Harry until next season either.

There's some talent about the place, that's for sure. And a game plan damn it, a bloody game plan, finally.
