What kind of statlines have the rising star noms been putting because Hugo not having 1 is criminal. He's 19 but they would all be frothing if it was a big club player
Exactly. Garcia is playing inside mid and holding his own against guys with 5+ years and 100+ games experience.

Small ground, hard to find uncontested space.

Contested posessions.

Tom Green 16
Josh Kelly 15

Jack Macrae 12

Kieren Briggs 11

Jack Steele and Mitch Owens 9 each.
Windhager , Garcia , Sinclair 8 each Sam Taylor 8

So there's Steele , struggling but still one of our best in contests.
We really need to find more, maybe Phillipou is one.
I'm very confident that Pou will be that one.

Geez. ..it was bloody hot at that ground this arvo.

At least we didn't get a 10 goal belting......during that deflating 3rd qtr......it seemed that a 10 goal thumping was incoming.

Captain Jack was very disappointing.

It's been said many times here but Naz is an absolute freak with his plays.

Obviously the boys were depressed after spending a whole week in Adelaide.
There is nothing to do there but stay inside and play COD.
Also the tap water there gives you the runs.

First time i went to Adelaide was for the old Grand Prix. After a night at the pub we went back to the motel and hit the Port. Woke up the next morning, dry horrors so sculled a glass of water. Dry heaving i ran barefoot down the road looking for someone selling bottled water.

Off our game today. We just were not clean enough, and with the class GWS have it was just constant pressure. In hindsight I think that spending the whole week in Adelaide may not have been a good idea.

A lot to like in our rebuilding list though. Max Hall is just going along quite nicely for a new player. Will get better.

But we are too dependent on Macrae in the midfield, and GWS were able to restrict him well today. Can't wait to see Pou and also Hunter back. Garcia and Windy both good today.

An undermanned midfield, no Key Forward, or Key Back in Howard starts us behind the 8 Ball in every game at present.

Hopefully the second half of the season we can have a more complete team. If so, it will be even more exciting to watch.

Overall, the result was pretty much as most of us expected.

There were definitely some positive signs, but GWS were cleaner and crisper with their handling and ball use in the big moments. We couldn't sustain the early pressure for long enough.

Nas was electric. Hugo (in particular the 1st half) was great, probably his best game. Windy, Maxy, Mase, Wilkie & Sharmo probably round out our best.

Liked Chito's run on the ball in the last quarter - something to work with there

Mitch had 9 contested possessions for the game. Is there anywhere that breaks it down quarter by quarter?

andy samberg thumbs down GIF
So Scrappy .... who was playing on Greene who kicked 5?

Maybe I got it wrong but .... the commentary said it was Byrnes and I am fairly certain it was him early on

I think he only had 2 touches to 3QT so I dare say the bulk of them came in the last

EDIT: Just checked - had 3 contested to 3QT so 6 came in the last

Skills killed us again. Yes, they're stronger in other areas but if we can't hit our targets it's the same old story of it's just so much harder than it needs to be. We don't give ourself a chance.

Overall, there's a lot to like though. We're definitely heading in the right direction and that makes games like that a lot easier to watch. GWS are a great side.

Garcia is getting better all the time. Nas... FMD... star. Wood did some good things. Anyone who thinks Sharman should be moved out of the forward line needs to give themself an uppercut. I'm loving seeing Windy get a decent run in the middle. It was good to see Owens around the ball for a bit. He's just such a bull. Wilkie being Wilkie.

Steele was really poor. Some of his decision making and kicking was woeful.

I love how hard Byrnes tries. He simply needs to clean up his use though. If he can't... I want him gone... sorry.

Trav might need a run in the 2s soon.

Hammer scares me lol.

I think the coaches, line coaches included, are doing a really good job.

Thanks V - really interesting- first time I’ve really heard RTB outline the future plan - NAS into the midfield when he gets stronger and the right time in the game plus Wilson a mid. Expect NAS to get more mid time now.

Add in Garcia, Windy & Pou (& hopefully Boxshall) - that’s our future midfield right there.

Yet they put Owens in the midfield for 1/4 today, and he got 6 contested possessions.

Was about to post this. Very interesting to think of NAS's future on ball!

Something pleasing of recent is that it looks like goalkicking is becoming part of his repertoire 😍

I know he has injury problems and is probably only playing his role but when’s the last time we saw Steele play like his life depended on it? Bloke used to leave everything out there every time he ran on the field. I wonder if he himself feels like he does that any more. Cops a lot on here but our team would be better if he did

That’s a positive (& I’m a big Mitch fan) but I reckon most of those Q4 possessions he just pumped forward and turned over.

Webster/Stocker predominately I believe. The commentary were basically blind old men who constantly confused Garcia for Caminiti.

We are 100% missing a tall from each end right now and its stuffing our structures. Howard back is going to push everyone down onto the next dangerous forward and just make everything more balanced. Caminiti has the goods to make it but he isnt a reliable defender yet and the GWS forward line is stacked.

The other ends basically means they have the additional tall to intercept and to double team Sharman. King playing fit right now would make a huge difference.

The only big issue with the middle quarters is that our pressure was just not up to scratch and it allowed GWS to just slingshot out of our forward line easily. I can take being beaten by the better team that GWS is but a 140 pressure rating that early in the game is just not good enough.

If Steele had Byrnes's game today, we'd be lauding him

23d (4 contested)
6 marks
10 handballs
1 goal and 6 score assists

There are a fair few others to single out before Ronnie

Steele was awful today...

There were down performers no doubt.

My point is our best 22 doesn't have him in it, he's a walking clanger who plays with admirable spirit

The half backs split time between Greene

Byrnes was on him for like half the game

Most of his goals came when Sinc/Nas were matched up on him due to bench rotations etc
