No idea who played well in the VFL, but I wonder if someone like Higgins could use a spell in the VFL.

* Luke Shuey probably wont play. Did a hammie 2 weeks ago

* McGovern is likely to play but not 100% confirmed

* Jetta is 50/50 with a recurring calf problem

* Similarly, Sheed is 50/50 with a foot issue

All these guys are starting 22 players. Then we have a bunch of skilled kids with a couple of games under their belts out injured who would be pushing for spots if they were fit.

Couple of things now that I'm caught up on this thread:

1. Butler getting caught in traffic is a non-issue. Plenty of times he'll try to break a line, know he's caught and go down with the ball giving away holding the ball. If he were to blast a disposal free that gives a decent shot of the opponent mopping up and rebounding to an unset defence. Butler's most often breaking lines down the middle of the field, where a turnover at speed would be most damaging against us. Holding the ball frees just slow up the game and give us a chance to set the defence. A much better option in that scenario.

2. Conca won't be dropped nor should he be. Not exacting by foot but is a ripping defensive mid and pretty good at the grunt work.

3. Stengle' been pretty good in the VFL sure, but if we're taking one small to WA then I want to see Liam Baker. He's much more versatile and can genuinely win the footy. We're usually pretty good giving a chance for interstate boys to travel home when possible (see: Stengle's debut in Adelaide) and given Bolton's out of form I don't think it's crazy to think Baker will get a look.

4. Jack Higgins I love you son, but your set shot is abysmal. Go work it out. Leppa, this should be one of your top priorities. We've got a real talent but he's a liability at times when he can't make the simple ones.

5. Genuinely hilarious how mad North fans are in the MB all Australian thread about Ben Jacobs not being considered. No one gives a stuff if he kept Martin quiet. The bloke is competing with genuine mids for a spot. He won't be gifted a selection because he's good at tackling early or throwing little elbows in the contest ffs.

I was amazed the number of times North went after Conca with head high tackles.
Zurhaar was brilliant versus Hawthorn and was inexplicably omitted.

Update: Training reports coming in for West Coast.

McGovern, Jetta and Sheed are doing main training, so provided no mishaps they should all be available for selection.

Shuey doing running drills, so will likely miss.
