Pick 16 was never on the table. Just like I said. Hawks have a strict policy in place. It won them a flag so why would they change it now

If Pick 16 was never on the table, yet it was a prerequisite for the Swans to deal, then why did the Hawks spend the last few days running around interviewing, making offers, and all that other crap. They've wasted evrybody's time, again, and clubs shouldn't bother to deal with them in future.

It's called negotiation and haggling Bruce.

Jesus, mate don't go to Phuket for a holiday, you'd go broke!;)

I understand negotiating and haggling, Big Ronnie, I just don't get why they need to do it for 4 days. If I went to Phuket, I'd spend an hour shopping (neg and hag), and hour on the beach, an hour in the bar, then an hour in my missus. I wouldn't spend the whole week shopping. Why did it take only a day and a half for the Swans to walk away from Lovett? Because the price wasn't right. Trading is about give and take, and if Hawthorn aren't prepared to give, then stop wasting everybody's time and eff off somewhere else. I'll bet Ryan O'Keefe just loving the whole thing. It's unprofessional.

Never has been called "negotiation"

When u are told the price and u have a guy nominating your club...then u say "i'm interested" and spend 4 days interviewing travelling and telling everyone you;re still interested....when the guy is happy to bend his requirements to suit...all that needs to be done is a simple YES or NO.

If this is true...its a bloody disgrace and makes an absolute mockery of trade week.

Its not meant to be a forum for games...its to enable clubs to procure what they want and for players to go where they want or to be ontraded...its not an excercise in playing dress ups and pretending to be Donald Trump.

Its very simple...u know the terms..they've been happy with them for 4 days except for neg the players salary...and he's said he'll take a paycut.

Thats it...anything more is irrelevant bullshitting and tyre kicking.

You do not play games with A graders simply wanting to relocate back home at a very fair price.

If they come out now and say "pick 16 wasnt on the table" after all this time and knowing the terms all week ....then they can do business with VFL clubs in trade week from now on...coz professional AFL clubs wont be interested knowing the bullshit they produce.

Harden up princess. Deal's off, so just walk away.

he'd probably be wondering whether he should go to an unprofessional club that cant even handle a simple trade when its presented on a plate.

Here is one of the games most professional footballers.... without a hint of a reason why he shouldnt be easily traded being stuff arsed about in the most unprofessional manner possible...for NO REASON other than playing games.

They interviewed him ...but because they know he's asked to go to hawthorn they havent taken it as flattery...they've probably taken it to mean it can give them a chance to screw a deal rather than make a trade.

Unprofessionalism at its worst.

If push comes to shove and 2pm tommorow O'Keefe is in Brown and Gold and the Red and White have pick 16 won't we all look like douches

It wouldnt be a trade week if there weren't hurdles to overcome, do you really think the Hawks would have flown up to Sydney to have talks with O'Keefe if they weren't seriously considering giving over pick 16?

Sydney sat down on the table with the instructions to draw up a list of 7 or 8 players they are interested in and Hawks will try and trade 2 of them. On this list were Tuck, Thorp, Dowler, Murphy among Boyle and one or two more. The most likely deal was to be Taylor and Boyle but Swans said no and that is the end of it

How can okeefe not be worth pick 16 and bloody warnock we worth pick 6! This is outragous! F*** all will get done this week, What a joke trade week is. Hawks are dreaming if they reckon there gunna get ROK at 400,000 a year and not using their 1st pick

see thats the thing, If pick 16 was on the cards, then quit playing all these games.

there's a balance between the duty to get the best deal for your club and the duty to act in good faith. And at the moment Pelchen can't find it

It's not about O'Keefe not being worth pick 16, it's about wanting to stay in the decent end of the draft. If we trade 16 our first pick is 33 or so, and you're well into the lottery by then.

I'm sure if we could trade a player or players for 15 we'd be happy to send it on to the Swans for O'Keefe.

Um, you just won the flag....what's the pressing need to stay "in the decent end of the draft"? You've already developed a sh*t hot team, and there are still a handful of good young players you have in the wings. I don't get this line of thinking. Your club is better positioned for both present and future than anyone else and you're worried about losing the 16th pick? Amazing.

Agree with this - Hawks and Sydney both probably worked through the list until 7 or 8 names were remaining and from there Sydney had to do some thinking - they probably came back with X and Hawks said Y and both sides decided nope aint happening. Why does player trades have to be about picks. Why cant Sydney take Boyle and Taylor or even Tim Clarke. I remember when Daniel Chick wanted to go home - by about day 2 we negotiated a deal that was not really fair to the Hawks but got Chickie home. (in todays terms it was a massive win however back then the Hawks were not really compensated).

In some ways I dont want ROK at the Hawks as it could upset the playing list however if he wants to come home then Sydney need to respect the wishes of the player - West Coast sort off did that for Chris Judd last year - for peat sake they did not even get the number 1 pick for him. ROK has given Sydney 10 years of his life now its Sydney turn to say thank you, obtain the best possible deal for him (even if it is two B Graders) and send him home. If the best deal is with Western Bulldogs then so be it.

Oh and Carlton, if Melbourne have offered pick 19 for Warnock match it - stop trying to rape another side by forcing them to accept a lesser deal. Tell Warnock that they can not match the Melbourne offer and let him he has to go there. Mediation will not solve the problem if Freo have a better offer on the table.

Agreed. Talk about wasting everyone's time.

I don't understand why they wouldn't do it. I hope this is one exceptional draft.

Probably way off the mark here but could it be possible that Hawthorn are just toying with Sydney and ROK?

By creating the impression in the minds of other teams which would become greater contenders in the premiership race next season with ROK, that ROK will be going to hawthorn and thus leading them not to pursue him.

Whilst all the while having no intention of getting ROK, but forcing him to either stay at Sydney (who are probably going downhill) or be shipped to demons (not contenders) in the PSD? Instead of going to a st kilda, carlton or geelong who will probably be contenders in the next few seasons?

Bit of smart business by Pelchin?

Read some odd posts today but this takes the cake.

I'm amused by username but the simple answer to your theory is no.

The hawks want ROK dont you worry but the sad fact is, if our 1st pick this year is number 34, and for the next couple of years the picks are taken away at a rapid rate it could really damage the development...

Because taking Taylor or Clark would worsen the Swans list, not improve it, quite ignoring the fact of losing O'Keefe. The Swans have clearly said they don't want another ruckman and Taylor is not capable of playing any other position. And Clark is a fit, relatively old player with highly dodgy skills. He wouldn't get a game over, say, Fosdike (whose skills aren't great but are better than Clark's). Therefore Clark becomes nothing more than a list clogger. Boyle has a little more value but while the Swans do need to find alternative forward options over the next few years, he's a bit too similar in type to Playfair. He's a better kick at goal but I don't think the two together would create a harmonious forward line. So either he or Playfair becomes a list clogger.

In some ways I dont want ROK at the Hawks as it could upset the playing list however if he wants to come home then Sydney need to respect the wishes of the player - West Coast sort off did that for Chris Judd last year - for peat sake they did not even get the number 1 pick for him. I don't think anyone would have an issue with the Hawks not thinking O'Keefe is right for their team. But the Hawks' behaviour all week has indicated that they think he would be very good for them. If they want a player, why on earth should any other club just bend over and take your duds because you're too tight to deal firmly. Very few fans on here from non-involved clubs seem to think pick 16+fringe is paying over the odds for a player like O'Keefe in his prime. I think at least half of Hawks fans who've posted seem to think it's an entirely reasonable price too.

Imagine how you'd feel if it was Bateman who'd decided he wanted to go home to Perth, West Coast were interested, he wanted to play for West Coast but all they were prepared to give was Armstrong and Seaby. Would you still think it was your obligation to let Bateman get back home and take players who'd add nothing to your squad. (I've picked Bateman because he's a similar age to O'Keefe and is probably of similar importance to your success.)

Uh because we don't want to get shafted by a team that is in a position to trade a couple of good young players. We don't want your scraps for RoK.

ROK has given Sydney 10 years of his life now its Sydney turn to say thank you, obtain the best possible deal for him (even if it is two B Graders) and send him home. If the best deal is with Western Bulldogs then so be it.

You wouldn't say that if the roles were reversed. Give me a break:rolleyes:
