Just heard on the radio the crows have announced Roo has parvovirus so went on the AFC website and found this...

Ricciuto: "It's a relief to know"

Adelaide captain Mark Ricciuto’s chances of playing any finals football are still clouded despite confirmation he has parvovirus B19.

Although tests have identified the virus, it is unclear when Ricciuto will be able to resume training.

He will be assessed twice weekly with blood tests and specialist attention but must continue to rest until his liver enzyme levels fall to acceptable levels.

“It’s a relief to finally know what’s wrong and now I can focus on getting right,” Ricciuto said. “I’d like to thank all our supporters for their best wishes.”

Club doctor Brian Sando said it was too early to say if Ricciuto would be able to play in the finals.

“The answer is that we don’t know,” he said. “But the positive news is that Mark now knows what the problem is.”

Ricciuto missed Sunday’s Showdown after falling ill on Saturday during training.

Parvovirus B19 is a virus that commonly infects humans and about 50 per cent of all adults have been infected at some time. Infected adults may have no symptoms or may develop a rash, joint pain and swelling.

yep...and this thing is contagious

Fingers crossed it won't affect any other players for sure. As much as I like watching you guys bleed at just the right time this season, I really think you have had enough bad luck already. Showdown cost you much more than just 4 points. It is now time for those still standing on your list to be counted. Otherwise the list may need to be thoroughly refreshed whenever your season comes to an end.

I hope for you guys that none of your other player shave contacted it.Also I hope that his partner doesn't have it,and he gets better soon.

You poor buggers. Is someone pricking an adleaide voodoo doll or something.Rotten luck.

Found this out....Remember learing this in imunology last semester:

Dogs and cats get a different non-human strain of parvo virus.

Usually only children get it

Spread via respiratory route

can be ill for up to 20 days after getting the infection

20% of people wont show symptoms

hopefully no one else gets it
:)

Much better news than Ross River virus. He should be right in a week or two, but there can be some problems with pregnancy so that can be more of a worry.

Thanks guys for keeping me (and everyone else) posted on Roo's progress. I hope he has a speedy recovery and good luck on the weekend.

don't puppies normally get vaccinated against a strain of Parvovirus ?????
Yep, canine parvovirus, which can be fatal. Lucky he doesn't play for the Bulldogs. :)

Glad to hear that it is not something more sinister or debilitating. I love watching Roo play, except in Showdowns of course.

Just a heads up guys, Roo will be talking to Channel 7 News exclusively tonight.

Why can't he speak to Rucci, we need him to share it with someone special.:D

To be honest, all these injuries could be a blessing in disguise.
There isn't too many games in the AFL season where our younger crop have played without mac, roo, burton et al.

Okay so a couple of them are from our leadership group, obviously the younger guys REALLY need to step up.

There are some players that rise to the occasion, think about mac in 95...We have to learn to play well without our damaging players...we did it earlier in the year.
Think about all the games we won without mcleod, riccuito's influence? There are many!!

Reilly has stepped up on those games, doughty, and especially stiff. Stiff's form as been poor of late, but I hope he can get better.

The best example of this was against north this year at the telstra dome..yeah I know roo and burton kicked 5 each or something like that. But our guys totally dominated the midfield, it was great to watch.

Saturday's match could be a breaking point for some of our players.

And the Making of others:thumbsu:

Is there any other strange and queer event that will happen to Adelaide this year?? Talk about bad luck.

At least theyve discovered what it is now. Hopefully none of your other players have contracted this.
