Congratulations to our Skipper!!
My favourite Roo CRUNCH was Dean Kemp.

Now Kempy was never shy of a physical situation and of course the rest is ...well Propellor spinning stuff:D ...and History.

Who would forget the Carlton Rampage last year under equally threatening skies.

A Club Champion who should have at least 4 more seasons in him as Skipper

WELL DONE ROO!! We need you to be politically correct at Mmanuka this week and Kick Some Heads

Ah, so many bumps, so many memories....

I'll always remember his Showdown 7 (?) performance, 40+ touches, a couple of goals and together with Macca and a few others he hauled us back from 42 points down in the 3rd quarter.

One of our most consistent players over the years, congratulations Roo on 200 games :)

Let's hope the team celebrates it with a win :)

Congrats roo!

WELL DONE MARK!
Hopefully the boys can win it this week for him!!!!!
shame its not a football park

GO THE CROWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BENNY HART 4 PM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Roo has always been one of my favourite players. He was one of the first I met and I was impressed by his friendliness and willingness to sign autographs ad nauseum for supporters.

I, too, remember the Dean Kemp crunch, mainly for the fact that West Coast got so fired up that they came out and blew the Crows away in the second half. Doh.

The Crows don't usually play well for mile-stone games, and Roo hasn't been showing good form lately......

So I hope they all pull their fingers out and beat the *beep* out of the Kangaroos.

You're right about the milestones Jars, let's hope Roo plays a decent game for once too.

A bit quiet on the Powder board this week, anyone else noticed that?

Yeah....

Depends on how many finals we play, if we play 4 finals like we did in 97 and 98 Ben will play his 250th on Grand Final day.

Smart's 200th was against Richmond over here in Melbourne 2 years back (we won that one - Vardy kicked 6). Pretty sure Bickley's 200th was over here in Melbourne against the Roos a couple of years ago . I thought Hart's 200th was in Adelaide, but I'm probably wrong on that one.

Congratulations Roo on reaching 200 games. As previously mentioned some great bumps - none better than the one on Dean Kemp - you could just about hear the collision in the crowd. Let's hope he really fires up for this game, as I'm still waiting for a game where he along with McLeod, Goodwin, Johnson & Bickley all fire in the one game. That would be awesome. :)

Macca-Probably about as much as whoever it was who posted last week on your board about Crows supporters wearing their colours, when I posted that it had been 20 hours since 1 posting on the Power board, I just didn't feel the need to start a new topic to mention it.

Well, I just checked the video and it was the first Showdown of 2000, when we were down by 42 points in the third quarter and Roo's 25 kicks, 16 handballs, 5 marks and 4 goals helped us to a come from behind 98 to 91 win. Maybe my video is stuffed??

A Captains Ccontest

If it was a 50 - 50 contest Id want Bickley First, Ricciuto Second and McDermott Third - going for the ball

1. Courage
2. Strength
3. Determination.....just about sums them up

It was typical of Mark Ricciuto that when he was asked what it meant to be playing his 200th AFL match this week – against the Kangaroos at Canberra’s Manuka Oval on Sunday – he replied: “Hopefully another win for the club.”

Later, when asked what was the main challenge for his 200th game, Adelaide’s captain said: “North Melbourne has been a strong club, one that’s given us a lot of tough encounters over the last 10 years.

“When their back’s up against the wall, they always seem to come out firing, as they did in round one against Port Adelaide.

“A lot’s been said about them this week in the media. (Denis) Pagan’s given all their senior players a fair rocket, and knowing blokes like (Glenn) Archer and (Anthony) Stevens and (Brett) Harvey and (David) King and players of that calibre, they’ll come out firing this week, so we expect a real competitive, tough game from them.”

Ricciuto was in his usual good form when he fronted a large contingent of media representatives before training at Football Park on Wednesday and the news conference developed into a rapid-fire question-answer session.

Obvious highlights?

“The 1998 premiership. And a couple of showdown wins were good fun, and playing in the International Rules series over in Ireland’s been good fun – in 1998 and 2000.

“Just being around the footy club for 10 years is obviously good fun as well – a few good footy trips.”

First memories of being picked up by the Crows?

“Footy’s changed a lot over that time. First memories … I came down to training once when I was 16 and trained with blokes I’d been watching on TV for the last 10 years, and I just felt totally out of place.

“Cornesy (coach Graham Cornes) asked me if I was ready to play that night and I said: ‘Yep’. But I didn’t get a game, anyway, but it was quite a funny moment.”

How has the game changed?

“Just the commitment to the game. We’re probably down here twice as much as what we’ve ever been, and physio demands, rubs and just generally maintaining the body’s taking up twice as much time as it usually did.

“And I guess demands from the media now they’re chipping in a lot more money and need to make it work for them.”

How would he like to be remembered?

“As a great leader of the Adelaide Football Club, a player who’s given his all for the club and for the guernsey and for the supporters.”

How has he changed as a player?

“Footy demands you be able to run a lot more now. I used to play at about 94 kilograms in the earlier days and now I play at about 90kg, so you can run your 15 to 20 kilometres a game with some speed and strength.

“Now that a lot of the body contact’s been taken out of the game, there’s no need to have as big a frame as what you used to have to have.”

Can he play for another five or six years?

“I’m 27 in June so if I could play for another three or four or five years I’d be happy.”

Is 300 games a goal?

“I haven’t put it down as a goal but if everything goes well and I don’t have any injuries, it might be within reach.”

Has his 200th game been spoken about much (around the club)?

“Ayresy’s (coach Gary Ayres) given me a few smart comments throughout the week, only having a bit of fun with it.

“We honestly haven’t had much success with milestone games for the last couple of years, so we might play it down and just try to get the win, then have a couple of beers afterwards.”

Nice to be playing the 200th in Canberra?

“Yeah, should be a big crowd over there. I can’t even get my folks over there because the flights are too dear.

“No, I’m very happy to be playing in Manuka. Obviously it’d be better to be playing at Footy Park but to play 200 games, I think you’d be a bit fussy if you wanted to play it at a certain venue. It’ll be fine over there as long as we win.”

Influences on him at the club?

“Chris McDermott had a huge influence on me when I first came to the club. He was captain of the club at the time and he really made me feel welcome here and made the transition from Waikerie to Adelaide a hell of a lot easier. I’ll never forget that.

“And his style of football probably rubbed off on me as well and he just generally made me feel like I was part of the club – an important part of the club.

“Cornesy was a great coach in the early days as well. He taught me a hell of a lot. Blighty (Malcolm Blight) was a super coach and changed the style of game I was playing – and that was for the better.

“And obviously the other coaches I’ve had along the way – Michael Taylor, as assistant coach, Robert Shaw and Ayresy now, and a lot of the players I played with as well – they’ve all rubbed off and helped me.”

Has the Adelaide Football Club changed him?

“There’s no doubt about that. I think I was a bit of a different person when I was at Waikerie (in South Australia’s Riverland) but … being an AFL footballer requires you to … I better be careful what I say here … you have to be careful what you do.

“You’re a role model in the community so you can’t afford to do anything wrong.”

His best Crows?

“We’ve had a number of pretty classy players over the years, all in different areas. “Andrew McLeod’s obviously the one who stands out at the moment, for obvious reasons.

“Darren Jarman for his freakish efforts … Shaun Rehn, definitely the best ruckman I’ve ever played with or probably against … Tony Modra for his marking ability … they’re probably the classiest players who have been at the club.”

Captaincy?

“Since my junior career, I’ve always been either a captain or one of the leaders in the teams. That’s just the style of person I am.

“I like to lead from the front and show the way. I’ve always wanted to be captain of the footy club. Now I want to be a really good captain.

“I’ve had an ideal learning curve from McDermott, (Tony) McGuinness, (Mark) Bickley and Ayresy, obviously being a captain as well (Hawthorn in 1992-93), so I’ve got no excuses not to be.”

Any regrets?

“No, not really …”

Would he like to coach one day?

“At this stage, it’s a fair way away, but I can see myself having a crack at it, for sure.”

* Ricciuto is the fourth player to each the 200-game milestone for Adelaide – after Nigel Smart and Mark Bickley (236 each this week) and Ben Hart (231 this week).

I was fairly sure that it was played on Easter Sunday, as I was watching in Melbourne, where I was over Easter. That would surely make it the first Showdown of the year? Is there any possibility that the AFL site is mixed up?

dogs105 - you're recollection is completely correct. It was an Easter Sunday.

Will there ever be another Darren Jarman?

I think we've got enough up and comers to cover the loss of Rehn...

Modra like Jarman; they are as rare as rockin horse sh/t.

If only Fitzy would hold his marks like Stephen Copping....... The "one pluck specialist":(
