🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

I've done three phantom drafts previously that have been met with very positive feedback. I will admit that this year was a lot harder so I'm not all that confident about it but here goes...

First Round
#1 GWS: Lachlan Whitfield (Dandenong Stingrays) Height: 184cm Weight: 77kg D.O.B: 18/07/94
It is without a doubt that Whitfield is the most elite midfielder in this year’s draft pool. His endurance is second to none. He just runs all day and runs his opponents into the ground, not to mention that he has a perfect left foot, very dangerous around goals and just simply looks composed whenever he has the ball.

#2 GWS: Jimmy Toumpas (Woodville-West Torrens) Height: 183cm Weight: 77kg D.O.B: 02/01/94
By having a dominant final series last year helping WWT to a flag, Toumpas announced himself as a future star. A versatile midfielder, Toumpas has excellent skills and is efficient both by hand and by foot who also has a combination of explosive speed and agility. I cannot see him dropping out of the top 3 come draft time, especially considering he made All-Australian despite playing with injury.

#3 GWS: Brodie Grundy (Sturt) Height: 202cm Weight: 100kg D.O.B: 15/04/94
Grundy is by far the best ruckman in this draft, and the best junior ruckman since Naitanui. He is a dual U18 All-Australian who possesses elite tap work and virtually becomes another midfielder when the ball hits the ground, not to mention his mobility. I would say he will be the next Dean Cox.

#4 Melbourne: Oliver Wines (Bendigo Pioneers) Height: 185cm Weight: 83kg D.O.B: 07/10/94
It seems that Wines would be a very good fit for Melbourne. A top 10 pick, Wines is a big-bodied inside midfielder who excels at the clearances and will also rack up touches having averaged 24 touches in the TAC Cup.

#5 Western Bulldogs: Jackson Macrae (Oakleigh Chargers) Height: 188cm Weight: 75kg D.O.B: 03/08/94
Macrae’s blistering finish to the year has seen his stocks rise massively and is in line at around this pick. He has all the traits of an elite midfielder full of class. He wins plenty of the ball, his kicking is pinpoint and precise, and his agility and evasiveness is superb. The Dogs would no doubt love to add a potential elite AFL midfielder to their side and Macrae is very capable of becoming one.

#6 Western Bulldogs: Jake Stringer (Bendigo Pioneers) Height: 191cm Weight: 91kg D.O.B: 25/04/94
Despite a leg injury, Stringer is still a top 10, even a top 5 pick due to returning to some great form. To me he looks to be the perfect utility as he can change a game both as a bid-bodied midfielder or as a forward with his strong overhead marking. When he gets his running ability back, he should also be able to slot in defence at times and be used as an outside midfielder. KPF aside, he is what the Dogs need.

#7 Port Adelaide: Sam Mayes (North Adelaide) Height: 187cm Weight: 78kg D.O.B: 20/05/94
Despite playing primarily across half-forward in the champs, he was pushed further up the ground in his senior stints with the Roosters. His probably has the best foot skills in this year’s draft pool and he also has fantastic endurance and leg speed. Mayes should slot straight into the Port's young midfield.

#8 Brisbane: Kristian Jaksch (Oakleigh Chargers) Height: 194cm Weight: 85kg D.O.B: 07/10/94
With Brown nearing the end, the Lions will be looking at developing a key forward and Jaksch is probably the best KPP in this year’s pool behind Daniher. He is capable at playing at both ends of the ground and possesses strong hands and excellent field kicking. He also played a pivotal role in Oakleigh’s charge towards the flag (pun intended) by keeping Daniher quiet one week and kicking four goals the next. His set shots are a bit iffy at times but Brown would be a very ideal mentor. He would also free up Merrett to play in defence.

#9 Richmond: Nick Vlastuin (Northern Knights) Height: 187cm Weight 83kg D.O.B: 19/04/94
The Tigers have a terrific young midfield as it is and Vlastuin would be the icing on the cake. He is a highly competitive inside mid who has a ferocious attack on the ball and has elite decision making. He can also play across half-back as he did for much of the championships.

#10 Essendon: Joe Daniher (Calder Cannons) Height: 201cm Weight: 89kg D.O.B: 04/03/94 (F/S)
As we know, the Bombers have committed to him under the F/S rule and they certainly have a steal here. Elite young KPF’s only come around once every blue moon so to get a top three talent at #10 is a huge bargain. His contested marking is second to none and should become an elite CHF in the years to come.

#11 Carlton: Jonathan O’Rourke (Calder Cannons) Height: 183cm Weight: 75kg D.O.B: 21/04/94
The Blues have stocked up on young KPP’s over the last few years and with the likes of Judd and Carrazzo getting on in age, it’s about time they targeted some young mids. He performed well in the champs coming back from injury but at AFL level his position is unknown. He is very explosive and has elite kicking skills so he could be mouled into a Brett Deledio type that can dominate across half-back and the midfield (if he adds some size). As we know, Malthouse is a great developer so O’Rourke could very well turn out to be a gun mid/HB. I was tempted to go for Plowman at this pick but the Blues have drafted Watson and McCarthy as KPD’s who are still developing.

#12 GWS: Lachlan Plowman (Calder Cannons) Height: 191cm Weight: 86kg D.O.B: 11/11/94
With the loss of Hombsch, the Giants would love to land a quality young KPD. He may not have the height to play as one straight away but he’s very capable of developing into one and becoming a Scarlett type FB who isn’t all that tall but has incredible strength and rebounding ability. I understand he has been linked to pick #3 but I just don’t think he’s quite a top 3 pick.

#13 Gold Coast: Jesse Lonergan (Launceston) Height: 183cm Weight: 86kg D.O.B: 14/04/94
Lonergan is by far the best division two prospect in this year’s pool. To me, he is the complete midfielder who is big-bodied and tough and does superbly as an inside midfielder, but he has the speed and endurance to play as an outside midfielder. On top of that, he is also a proven goal kicker when needed.

#14 GWS: Troy Menzel (Central District) Height: 186cm Weight: 77kg D.O.B: 22/09/94
Menzel was considered a top 5 pick at the start of the year but his knee injury will probably cause him to slide a little. Adding to that, he has also undergone LARS which is very risky. However, I think the Giants will be willing to take a punt on him and pick him up here. There is a reason he was originally touted as a potential top 5 pick. Much like his brother, he is very creative, provides lots of flair, kicks plenty of goals and can have stints in the midfield.

#15 North Melbourne: Ben Kennedy (Glenelg) Height: 174cm Weight: 76kg D.O.B: 03/03/94
With a plethora of inside mids, North would be looking at some more outside options and Kennedy fits the bill perfectly. He has the ability to win plenty of the ball, he has a beautiful left foot kick and has plenty of speed and is a goal-kicker. He is a Boomer Harvey clone so he will straight away take his spot once he retires, but as for next year, he will probably play more as a forward pocket type.

#16 Geelong: Taylor Garner (Dandenong Stingrays) Height: 186cm Weight: 77kg D.O.B: 08/01/94
A versatile forward/midfielder, Garner has sprung into first round contention with an impressive champs, especially his performance against WA. He has an incredible strong overhead mark for his size, he’s a goalkicker and can dominate in the midfield given his versatility. He is very strong in contested situations and is a strong tackler and has been likened to Bartel because of his strong overhead and contested ball winning qualities.

#17 Fremantle: Mason Shaw (South Fremantle) Height: 197cm Weight: 82kg D.O.B: 15/01/94
Shaw is the best available KPF at this pick IMO. He didn’t have a fantastic champs competing with Hogan but his Colts form is too good to ignore. He kicked over 100 goals this year and just simply has such a presence up forward with strong marking and accurate goal kicking. He would be the perfect successor for Pavlich and there is no go-home factor involved.

#18 Collingwood: Tom Clurey (Murray Bushrangers) Height: 193cm Weight: 85kg D.O.B: 23/03/94
One of the best KPD’s in the draft, Clurey would be an excellent addition to most teams. He has elite endurance and also provides rebound from defence as well as doing outstanding shut down jobs on power forwards.

#19 Collingwood: Tim Membrey (Gippsland Power) Height: 188cm Weight: 87kg D.O.B: 26/06/94
Membrey is a big-bodied versatile forward who is very physical due to his crash-bash style of play into packs and has an excellent work rate. He won’t be a KPF at AFL level but he would make an excellent third-tall with his strong marking on lead and accurate goal-kicking. Adding to that, he could play as a midfielder with some endurance. He has been linked to Collingwood so I think they will be very happy to snare him.

#20 Adelaide: Josh Simpson (East Fremantle) Height: 183cm Weight: 72kg D.O.B: 09/02/94
After transferring from SA at the start of the year, Simpson has continued his great form possessing elite kicking skills and a penetrating kick on top of his pace. He will be a great addition to Adelaide's midfield. With Kennedy gone, the Crows would love to land some outside pace and Simpson fits the bill perfectly. O’Brien is the popular choice here but I really think a Daniel Wells-esque midfielder is an area they are deficient in.

#21 Collingwood: Dayle Garlett (Swan Districts) Height: 180cm Weight: 75kg D.O.B: 09/01/94
After being initially touted as a top 10 pick, a few off-field issues has probably scared a few recruiters off but I think Collingwood would be a club willing to take a punt. He is an elite talent after all as he possesses blistering pace, good decision making and is also a very adequate goal sneak. If his off-field issues can be fixed, the Pies would have themselves a gun.

#22 Western Bulldogs: Tim O’Brien (Glenelg) Height: 192cm Weight: 81kg D.O.B: 28/03/94
O’Brien is a very athletic KPF who possesses very strong hands overhead and on the lead, he is quick and is an accurate set shot. The Dogs severely lack KPF quality and depth, and O’Brien will fill that hole perfectly.

#23 Sydney: Sam Colquhon (Central District) Height: 179cm Weight: 72kg D.O.B: 20/12/94
Colquhon is a half-back flanker who has elite skills. His kicking is very precise, he has great efficiency with his disposals and has incredible endurance. With Shaw and Mattner both nearing the end, Colquhon would slot in at half-back as their successor with utter ease.

End of First Round Compensation
#24 Brisbane: Nathan Wright (Dandenong Stingrays) Height: 183cm Weight: 78kg D.O.B: 16/02/94
Wright is an athletic defender who can push up into the midfield. He has explosive speed that enables him to burst away from opponents and also has the ability to play shutdown roles on small/medium forwards which is another one of his assets. Should go around at this pick and will be a quality addition to the young Lions squad.

Second Round
#25 St Kilda: Tanner Smith (North Ballarat Rebels) Height: 194cm Weight: 83kg D.O.B: 08/03/94
It is no question that the Saints are in need of a KPD. Whilst Smith might not be ready to tackle the AFL power forwards next year, he’s still a great prospect to work with. He sticks to his opponent all day, he is rarely beaten on the lead due to his good closing speed and he also has the versatility to play up forward when needed. It wouldn’t surprise me to see the Saints pick up a mature aged KPD late in the draft or in the rookie draft to play right away as Smith won’t be ready just yet.

#26 St Kilda: Nathan Hrovat (Northern Knights) Height: 173cm Weight: 76kg D.O.B: 07/06/94
Despite his height, I think Hrovat will make a terrific inside midfielder at AFL level. He has a strong build which helps his inside game greatly; he wins plenty of the ball and is a great decision maker.

#27 Melbourne: Jack Viney (Oakleigh Chargers) Height: 178cm Weight: 80kg D.O.B: 13/04/94 (F/S)
As we know, Viney is off to the Demons and he is exactly what they need. He is a talented inside midfielder with an exceptional work rate and terrific ability to bulldoze his way towards the ball. He is fairly short but he makes up for it with a strong build. Should slot into the Demons’ midfield straight away and make some impact to suggest he is a key player for them in the future.

#28 GWS: Liam McBean (Calder Cannons) Height: 203cm Weight: 87kg D.O.B: 25/08/94
McBean is an interest prospect in my opinion. He clearly has the height for a ruckman but he is quite skinny at the moment and would need to bulk up to play ruck at AFL level. However, he has shown great versatility by playing in defence and up forward. He is very athletic for someone of his size and has shown to be a good spoiler in defence and is also a reliable kick, both field and set-shot which is a major positive. I think the Giants are a club that would be willing to take a punt.

#29 Hawthorn: Nicholas Graham (Gippsland Power) Height: 182cm Weight: 76kg D.O.B: 12/06/94
Another solid mid in this draft, Graham has an impressive attack on the ball, he is a fierce tackler who provides great pressure, has good skills and is a strong mark for his size. With much of Hawthorn’s midfield brigade getting on in years, the time has come for them to develop some younger mids.

#30 Port Adelaide: Tim Broomhead (Port Adelaide Magpies) Height: 182cm Weight: 73kg D.O.B: 22/02/94
I see Broomhead as more of a utility who can play across half-back, in the midfield and even stints up forward. He has very good breakaway speed, he is a good kick on both sides and has shown the ability to rack up disposals.

#31 Port Adelaide: Aidan Corr (Northern Knights) Height: 194cm Weight: 80kg D.O.B: 17/05/94
Corr is a tall defender who has good speed and agility, and generally has good foot skills. Due to his current slight frame, he looks more like a flanker but with some bulk, he could make it as a quality key defender due to his aggressive spoiling and competitive nature. Can also play further up the ground where he can use his speed and agility to advantage.

#32 Richmond: Rory Atkins (Calder Cannons) Height: 186cm Weight: 81kg D.O.B: 12/07/94
Despite being listed as a medium forward, Atkins can also play as a midfielder. He has excellent all-round skills and rarely wastes a disposal and is very strong overhead which he uses to great advantage up forward. He also has a decent turn of speed.

#33 Brisbane: Andrew Boston (Broadbeach) Height: 180cm Weight: 75kg D.O.B: 23/03/94
Boston is probably the best QLD prospect in this draft. He was impressive in the championships displaying good skills on both sides, his accumulation and the ability to swing forward. After the Suns passed up on him for zone selection, Brisbane would be keen with the local talent at this pick.

#34 Richmond: Adam Carter (South Fremantle) Height: 180cm Weight: 72kg D.O.B: 17/04/94
Carter is a small, talented utility who is capable of playing across half-back and through the midfield. He is a great rebounder and possesses elite kicking skills as well as being very strong defensively and in one-on-one contests. Will most likely replace Chris Newman when he retires.

#35 Essendon: Jason Pongracic (Dandenong Stingrays) Height: 182cm Weight: 86kg D.O.B: 21/04/94
Pongracic is a strong-bodied inside midfielder who should just about be ready to go next year. He’s a true in-and-under midfielder who displays great hardness and attack on the footy and thrives in contested situations, and also has excellent all-round skills. He is on the slow side but he makes up for it with his contested ability.

#36 Carlton: Dean Towers (North Ballarat Roosters) Height: 189cm Weight: 83kg D.O.B: 04/05/90
Towers is very similar to Isaac Smith both in terms of their style of play and where they come from. Like Smith, Towers has seemingly come from nowhere to be a genuine draft chance and has greatly impressed in the VFL. He has blistering pace and a penetrating kick and will slot in nicely on the wing for Carlton if they pick him up.

#37 Fremantle: Nick Rodda (West Perth) Height: 194cm Weight: 94kg D.O.B: 06/07/94
With McPharlin nearing the end, the Dockers would love to land a home-grown KPD. Rodda is a strongly built defender with solid rebounding skills. He is a good reader of the play and is also a strong mark which he often uses instead of going the spoil. Probably going a tad high here but there is always a few bolters.

#38 North Melbourne: Ben Jacobs (Port Adelaide) Height: 185cm Weight: 82kg D.O.B: 09/01/92
I think North will commit to Jacobs at this pick.

#39 Collingwood: Matthew Haynes (Northern Knights) Height: 189cm Weight: 76kg D.O.B: 19/03/94
Haynes is a supremely talented wingman-type player. He has incredible pace and agility making him very hard to chase. Despite having a small frame, he is a fairly strong tackler for his type. Will most likely play as a sub next year if he plays but, with a few years of development, he will make a great wingman.

#40 Fremantle: Mason Wood (Geelong Falcons) Height: 192cm Weight: 80kg D.O.B: 13/09/93
Wood is a medium forward who is a very similar type of player to Murdoch from Geelong. He is a very polished mover, has a raking left foot on him and has outstanding endurance. He has attracted great interest as of late and it wouldn’t surprise me to see him picked earlier than this.

#41 St Kilda: Shane Nelson (West Perth) Height: 180cm Weight: 82kg D.O.B: 11/05/93
I was absolutely baffled when he missed out altogether last year. He is a highly skilled, small all-round midfielder in the Leigh Montagna mould with outstanding endurance and speed and he excels at winning the hard ball as an inside midfielder but he can also succeed as an outside midfielder. Why he didn’t go last year is beyond me but after an impressive WAFL season, he should go this year.

#42 North Melbourne: Spencer White (Western Jets) Height: 194cm Weight: 86kg D.O.B: 22/09/94
White is a KPF who showed great signs in the TAC Cup. He possesses a very strong mark, strong presence and the ability to kick bags of goals each game. He is still quite raw but the talent is there.

#43 Richmond: Matthew McDonough (Woodville-West Torrens) Height: 180cm Weight: 85kg D.O.B: 26/01/94
When Menzel went down with a knee injury, McDonough stepped up immensely for SA who dominated and kicked bags of goals each game. He is very strong so he is very hard to beat in marking contests and is also a very accurate and precise kick. He has also shown that he is capable of playing up the ground where he has used his strength in the clearances. A Paul Chapman clone.

#44 St Kilda: Michael Close (North Ballarat Rebels) Height: 196cm Weight: 85kg D.O.B: 30/07/94
He has struggled with injury which is why he will slip back a bit but Close is still a sensational talent. He is a mobile KPF with elite endurance and is a strong mark overhead. He will need a fair amount of development but should be drafted around here.

#45 Sydney: Kamdyn McIntosh (Peel Thunder) Height: 192cm Weight: 85kg D.O.B: 03/04/94
Key defence is an area the Swans seem to lack depth in but they can boost that with the selection of McIntosh. He is a versatile defender who can play on medium and tall forwards and is able to do the job well. He also a great combination of pace and endurance so he can provide run out of defence whilst also shutting down opponents.

Third Round
#46 West Coast: Tim Sumner (Woodville-West Torrens) Height: 187cm Weight: 83kg D.O.B: 09/10/94
Sumner is an incredibly fast outside midfielder/forward (and probably the fastest in the draft). He doesn’t get a lot of the ball but when he does, he is very damaging with his pace, good goal sense and he is generally a good user of the ball. The Eagles drafted a similar prospect in Weedon a few years back which didn’t work out but that shouldn’t put them off of these types. Definitely reminds me of Lewis Jetta in a lot of ways.

#47 Sydney: Anthony Tipungwuti (Tiwi Islands/Gippsland Power) Height: 174cm Weight: 72kg D.O.B: 22/04/93
Tipungwuti was considered a prospect last year but his lack of athleticism marred his chances. However, he has turned that around completely this year and has become a very exciting player in the TAC Cup after representing NT in the championships. He has great pace, dual-sided, sensational evasiveness and can even play in other areas on the ground. The Swans lack genuine small crumbing forwards and they would definitely be a club to get the best out of him.

#48 North Melbourne: Matthew Dick (Calder Cannons) Height: 188cm Weight: 86kg D.O.B: 03/11/94
Dick is a smooth-moving, quick HB/wing who is already a terrific size which would make him in line for selection next year. He also has excellent skills and he uses his abilities to create play up the ground. .

#49 Melbourne: Jackson Thurlow (Launceston) Height: 190cm Weight: 79kg D.O.B: 28/03/94
Thurlow isn’t quite a KPD but he is a quality defender nonetheless. His reading of the play his excellent and this is evident by his intercept marking and strong rebounding skills. I would say he’s more of a tall versatile rebounder rather than a shutdown defender but still, I see him as a likely type.

#50 Western Bulldogs: Lachlan Hunter (Western Jets) Height: 181cm Weight: 78kg D.O.B: 13/12/94
Hunter is yet another F/S selection for the Dogs (and with more to come in the next few years it seems as well).Unlike Daniher who would’ve almost been top 3 or Viney who would have been a first rounder, this pick is about right for Hunter. He has a good attack on the footy, solid contested ball winning ability and is a very strong tackler to go along with it. Should turn out to be a solid player for the Dogs.

#51 Western Bulldogs: Brant Colledge (Perth) Height: 192cm Weight: 87kg D.O.B: 25/10/94
Colledge is classified as a KPF and has played as a leading centre half forward. Whilst he is not a big goal kicker, he brings other players into the game. He possesses a very strong mark both overhead and on the lead. He has great footy smarts and has a very precise kick which rarely misses its target.

#52 Essendon: Tom Gribble (Geelong Falcons) Height: 182cm Weight: 75kg D.O.B: 17/10/94
Every year, a player that hardly gets a mention gets drafted from left field. Gribble had a superb year in the TAC Cup making the team of the year and winning the Falcons B&F. He reminds me of Kerridge last year in that they both missed Championship selection but made up for it with great TAC Cup years (although Kerridge was more talked about) He is a ball magnet who tested well at the combine with an impressive beep test result, vertical leap and agility. He seems to have the tools to make it at AFL and the Dons would be happy to add another midfielder.

#53 Melbourne: Sam Lowrie (South Fremantle) Height: 187cm Weight: 80kg D.O.B: 22/07/94
Lowrie is a supremely talented midfielder who could easily go higher than this. He came back from injury last year and performed superbly. He has the capabilities of playing both inside and outside due to his great linking-up, great running game, clearance ability and big frame. He could be a steal for Melbourne at this pick.

#54 Adelaide: Jack Frost (Williamstown) Height: 194cm Weight: 84kg D.O.B: 25/02/92
The Crows have very little depth in their KPD stocks with only Rutten and Talia as true KPD’s (Otten and Thompson are third talls while Shaw and Henderson are running types). Frost had a great end to the year in the VFL, he's athletic and aggressive and will slot straight in if Rutten or Talia get injured like in the finals series. The local option is Joel Tippett but I think the Crows will stay clear of anything Tippett-related.

#55 Essendon: Marvin Warrell (South Fremantle) Height: 182cm Weight: 70kg 19/09/94
Warrell is a small-medium forward with blistering pace. He is very light but he makes up for his size with his ferocious tackling and attack on the ball. He does lack consistency which is so often the case for a small forward but on his day, he can do some incredible damage.

#56 Carlton: Justin Hardy (Central District) Height: 196cm Weight: 97kg D.O.B: 1989
Hardy is a mature-aged bustling KPF from the SANFL. He had a sensational year in the SANFL taking home the Ken Farmer Medal as the SANFL leading goalkicker and had a big impact up forward for Centrals. Considering that Waite is injury and suspension prone, Hardy is a player who will slot straight into the Blues forward line alongside the developing Casboult.

#57 Gold Coast: Brodie Murdoch (Glenelg) Height: 187cm Weight: 85kg D.O.B: 21/01/94
He is the younger brother of Geelong’s Jordan and they are both very similar types of players. He is too short to be a KPF but he would make a great HF type as he is very athletic, has great pace and a lovely left boot on him.

#58 North Melbourne: Taylor Hine (Gold Coast) Height: 184cm Weight: 75kg D.O.B: 24/01/92
North have shown interest in picking up the former Sun and I think that they will select him here. He has a lot of potential so this could be a very good get for them.

#59 Gold Coast: Kyal Horsley (Rookie Upgrade)

#60 Gold Coast: Clay Cameron (Zone Selection)

#61 West Coast: Dean Kent (Perth) Height: 180cm Weight: 81kg D.O.B: 24/02/94
Kent would’ve made the WA state squad if it wasn’t for illness. However, he responded with very good form in the Colts. He is very much an inside midfielder who excels in stoppage work and is a very good kick of the ball.

#62 West Coast: Marco Paparone (East Fremantle) Height: 193cm Weight: 84kg D.O.B: 03/09/94
Paprone is a tall utility who plays either on the wing or as a leading tall forward. He isn’t a strong contested mark but he makes up for it for his exceptional work on the lead. He is also a high quality athlete with elite endurance, great footy smarts and is very clean and composed.

#63 North Melbourne: Darcy Fort (Geelong Falcons) Height: 203cm Weight: 84kg D.O.B: 06/08/93
Fort is a long-term prospect but with McIntosh gone, and only Goldstein and Daw, North need to develop a young ruckman for the future. Fort is not only a good tap ruckman but he also gets involved around the play and makes an impact.

#64 Adelaide: Ian Callinan (Rookie Upgrade)

#65 GWS: Laine Wilkins (Peel Thunder) Height: 189cm Weight: 78kg D.O.B: 30/03/94
Wilkins is an outside type who is an excellent runner and is very athletic with his agility and jumping ability. I think he is a real excitement machine who could easily go a lot higher than this so this could be a steal for the Giants.

#66 Sydney: Jordan Bourke (Morningside) Height: 193cm Weight: 83kg D.O.B: 11/11/94
Bourke is a strong leading forward with a strong pair of hands and is a reliable set shot for goal which is a rarity these days for KPFs. He would provide solid support for Reid up forward, especially with Goodes nearing the end.

#67 Sydney: Lewis Pierce (Dandenong Stingrays) Height: 202cm Weight: 87kg D.O.B: 16.11.94
A raw prospect and has struggled with injury but he is still one of the best ruck prospects in this draft pool. His ruck work is very good already and the Swans need to add to their ruck stocks as they lack in depth in that area.

Fourth Round
#68 Hawthorn: Sam Siggins (Lauderdale) Height: 194cm Weight: 86kg D.O.B: 20/03/94
The Hawks may have recruited Lake but they still need more KPD’s. Siggins is probably the best available one left. He is a great size for a KPD but he also has very athletic attributes by providing run off of half-back and he can play on talls and smalls.

#69 GWS: Brad Hartmann (Sturt) Height: 188cm Weight: 75kg D.O.B: 16/11/94
Hartman is a very exciting prospect with a lot of potential. He missed out on selection for the SA state side but he made up for it with a superb season in the SANF U18s where he averaged three goals a game. He is very strong overhead but he also has outstanding agility and speed. He reminds me a lot of Michael O’Loughlin in the way he plays up forward and he has also pushed up to the wing and even half-back.

#70 Melbourne: Harrison Gill (Glenelg) Height: 186cm Weight: 74kg D.O.B: 1993
Gill was overlooked last year but he had fairly strong year this year by displaying solid performances both at league and reserve level playing in the midfield. He is quite athletic possessing a nice combination of speed and endurance, and is worth a late pick.

#71 Carlton: Jacob Ballard (Northern Knights) Height: 186cm Weight: 82kg D.O.B: ???
Ballard had a very consistent year in the TAC Cup. He is a strong, hard-running midfielder who can also play down back. He is a very good size so he could almost play next year, he has great skills both by hand and by foot and he has incredible endurance to go along with it. With these assets, he could push for second round selection so this could turn out to be a bargain.

#72 Hawthorn: Jarrod Stokes (Darwin) Height: 175cm Weight: 63kg D.O.B: 15/12/94
Stokes is probably more of a rookie selection but I think he has a fair amount of potential. He is a true small crumbing forward, something which Hawthorn lack (Rioli and Puopolo aren’t crumbers). He is very quick, agile, evasive and has some neat tricks to go along with it all. He is very light at the moment but he has the capabilities of being an Eddie Betts-style forward pocket.

#73 Melbourne: Daniel Nicholson (Rookie Upgrade)

#74 Melbourne: Michael Evans (Rookie Upgrade)

#75 Essendon: Nathan Stark (Glenelg) Height: 177cm Weight: 70kg D.O.B: 19/07/94
Despite only being small, Stark is a very aggressive midfielder who throws himself into the packs and a very good ability to win the contested ball against the bigger-bodies. One of the best available mids left at this pick.

#76 Carlton: Tom Temay (Sandringham Dragons) Height: 179cm Weight: 74kg D.O.B: 06/02/94
Temay is a versatile player who can play across Half-Back and in the midfield. He is very strong one-on-one and has very clean skills and good decision making. Across HB, he uses his neat kicking skills and in the midfield, he plays more of a shutdown role so he can fill a need either way.

#77 St Kilda: Kyle Hartigan (Werribee) Height: 194cm Weight: 93kg D.O.B: 07/11/91
I’ve had him going for the last three years but he’s had no luck of getting picked up and I can’t see why. He has all the tools to make it as a KPD at AFL level and with the Saints in desperate need of one, they would happily go for a mature-ager who can slot in straight away. He has improved year by year playing in the VFL and has already shown the capability of shutting down AFL forwards. He is still young and is just what the Saints need.

#78 North Melbourne: Sam Gibson (Rookie Upgrade)

#79 Geelong: Cameron Banfield (Sandringham Dragons) Height: 183cm Weight: 74kg D.O.B: 01/02/94
Banfield played most of the year across half-back but he has the versatility to play further up the ground also. He’s very good at setting up play, he has a nice set of skills and is a relatively strong tackler as well. If he was a few kgs heavier, he would go higher but he will need time to bulk up.

#80 Fremantle: Clancee Pearce (Rookie Upgrade)

#81 West Coast: Brad Dick (Rookie Upgrade)

#82 Collingwood: Harrison Marsh (East Fremantle) Height: 188cm Weight: 78kg D.O.B: 13/01/94
Marsh is a medium defender who can play as a third tall but also as an attacking defender. He is good at shutting down opponents but he also has the ability to find targets up the ground and he has a nice turn of pace in which he can play further up the ground when needed.

#83 Port Adelaide: Hayden Jolly (Gold Coast) Height: 184cm Weight: 83kg D.O.B: 04/04/92
It’s more than likely that Port will pass here and pick Jolly up in the PSD instead of here at #83 but I’ll put this pick here anyway.

#84 : Sam Frost (Rookie Upgrade)

#85 Western Bulldogs: Leigh Osborne (Frankston) Height: 186cm Weight: 84kg D.O.B: 1990
One of the most highly rated mature-aged players in this year’s pool and he will probably go a lot earlier than this. He is a half-back flanker with exceptional speed and a raking left-foot kick on him. I can see him as a more than capable replacement for Gilbee.

Fifth Round
#86 Port Adelaide: Tom Jonas (Rookie Upgrade)

#87 Brisbane: Jack Crisp (Rookie Upgrade)

#88 Richmond: Jarrod Lienert (Sturt) Height: 191cm Weight: 80kg D.O.B: 05/08/94
Lienert is a versatile player who has shown the ability to play up forward and down back. He has reasonable pace and is very offensive coming off HB with a run and carry style play. He is also effective up forward as he is also relatively strong overhead.

#89 Essendon: Mason Middleton (West Adelaide) Height: 191cm Weight: 95kg D.O.B: 1994
Middleton is probably more of a rookie selection but there is a chance he will go in the ND. He is a huge lump of a KPF who is capable of some big games up forward by using his big frame to push aside opponents.

#90 Carlton: Ed Curnow (Rookie Upgrade)

#91 St Kilda: Sam Dunnell (Rookie Upgrade)

#92 North Melbourne: Majak Daw (Rookie Upgrade)

#93 Geelong: Jesse Stringer (Rookie Upgrade)

#94 Fremantle: Lee Spurr (Rookie Upgrade)

#95 Collingwood: Marley Williams (Rookie Upgrade)

#96 Sydney: Shannon Taylor (Claremont) Height: 177cm Weight: 72kg D.O.B: 05/02/94
Taylor has loads of talent with extreme pace and agility. GWS took a look at him last year but didn’t pick him up. He will take a few years to fully develop physically and he didn’t come along as well as he would’ve liked this year which means he will slide. Still, he has the capabilities of a speedy small midfielder/forward with his pace and ability to win the ball.

#97 GWS: Andrew Phillips (Rookie Upgrade)

#98 Western Bulldogs: Tom Campbell (Rookie Upgrade)

#99 Brisbane: Niall McKeever (Rookie Upgrade)

#100 Richmond: Emmanuel Irra (South Adelaide) Height: 179cm Weight: 80kg D.O.B: 25/03/94
Irra could go anywhere from the third round to a rookie selection. He is very talented but he is a very raw prospect. He possesses excellent speed, agility and has a penetrating kick on him which hits the target more often than not. As I said, he is very raw but he could pay off big time.

#101 Essendon: Daniel Currie (North Adelaide) Height: 200cm Weight: 97kg D.O.B: 15/02/89
The former Swan had an excellent year in the SANFL where he was probably the best ruckman. He seems to be over his injuries which prevented him from playing and with his very effective ruck work around the ground and great endurance, he should be on some clubs’ radars. The Dons lack ruck depth with only Ryder, Bellchambers and Hille who will probably retire next year so Currie would be a good get.

#102 Carlton: Zac Tuohy (Rookie Upgrade)

#103 North Melbourne: Aaron Mullett (Rookie Upgrade)

Sixth Round
#104 Sydney: Jake McKenzie (Western Jets) Height: 180cm Weight: 72kg D.O.B: 12/05/94
The brother of Trent, Jake is a utility who has the ability to play across HF, in the midfield and in defence. He is a hard runner with good disposal and had a 79% disposal efficiency at the champs. Not quite as explosive as Trent but is capable of making it AFL.

#105 Western Bulldogs: Jason Johannisen (Rookie Upgrade)

#106 Essendon: Mark Baguley (Rookie Upgrade)

#107 Sydney: Harry Cunningham (Rookie Upgrade)

R2M, your write up of Port picking up Mayes at 7 states: "Mayes should slot straight into the Giants’ young midfield."?????
Yeah, I had him going to the Giants at #11 but I mixed things around slightly. It's fixed now.

If Sumner has pace then he's nothing like Weedon.
