Neavsy
2nd year at Cannons, watched him a bit last year and would get alot of hit outs, kinda unco but.

This is what I was told by someone who worked for the Richmond this season.

From the Melbourne website:

Selection 9
Jace Bode (Sturt)
183cm
80kg
18 years old

Bode is an All Australia representative in the U18 Carnival in 2005. He is a midfielder and has already played senior football for Sturt. Bode is currently in Sydney representing South Australia in the school boys athletics carnival, competing in the 100 and 200 metre sprints.

General Manager of Recruiting and List Management Craig Cameron said; “Jace is a left footer that is very quick and has played senior football. He is a midfielder that played some great football in 2005.

Selection 25
Daniel Hughes (Sandringham Zebras)
186cm
80kg
19 years old

Daniel played with Melbourne's aligned VFL Club Sandringham where his pace and football nous was noticeable.

General Manager of Recruiting and List Management Craig Cameron said, “Daniel is a very clever utility with good pace and possesses a huge vertical leap. He possesses good hand skills"

Selection 39
Shane Neaves (Calder U/18)
199cm
90kg
18 years old

Shane represented Vic Metro in the under 18 carnival in 2005. At 199cm and 18 years of age, he has some development to do but has shown the right qualities to give him the opportunity to do so.

General Manager of Recruiting and List Management Craig Cameron said: “A Vic metro ruckman with good skills and is a good mark.”

Selection 51
Andre Gianfagna (Northern U/18)
180cm
80kg
18 years old

Gianfagna has played most of his football on the wing and possesses great leg speed.

General Manager of Recruiting and List Management Craig Cameron said; “Andre is a lighting quick left footer. He is prominently a wingman and has very good foot skills.”

Two Hard nuts in Bode and Hughes, You guys did reasonable well.

We'll definitely have to get KPP in next year's draft.
I have faith in CC though. One of these kids will probably be a 100 game player and that's not bad for a rookie.

We're building for the future.....a side that wont have anyone at either end of the ground.
I suppose there looking at Bates, Warnock and Smith to come through.

If they dont, West Coast made it to within 4 points of a premiership with no forwards.

Bate, Dunn, Newton, Warnock, Johnson, Jamar, Smith, Neaves... not enough developing talls for you?
KPP always take a while to develop, even Miller and Rivers have a long way to go still.

It makes sense for us to stack up on midfielders, both tough and fast as they take a lot less time to develop. If they have what it takes, we'll find out soon enough. Besides, a side is usually made up of more smalls than talls, and most midfielders could adapt into a half back/ half forward flank position.

So? Teams dont play to come 2nd. That's called embracing mediocrity.

OK, but what if some of those KPP dont work out? We only have a limited supply. If one or two midfielders dont work out, we've got heaps to rely on. It seems ridiculous that in the 2 drafts we participated in we picked up 7 midfielders and thats it. 1 or 2 tall forwards or backs would have satisfied me, knowing we have enough midfielders AND KPP's in reserve to develop if some are flops.

Played football with Andre Gianfagna at school, he was in year 10 when i was year 12 and he had a very good year for a first year player..

Made All Australian U16 then the following year had a shoulder reco, form since has been average but has ability and blistering pace runs around a 10.9 for the 100m, natural all round sportsman, represented Victoria in footbal, athletics and cricket..

Could turn out to be a steal for you guys and worth taking..

Still see him a fair bit, nice kid and good luck to him..

I think you are forgetting that we delisted Armstrong, Heffernan, Williams and Hunter plus Gus retired. So we lost 5 midfielders, although they weren't much chop.
If you compare our list in 2006, to that of 2005, you'll probably find that the balance is similar. If Smith stays injury free, we will have plenty of developing KPP, especially given that Neita is the only KPP we have who is nearing the end.

Some of the players we drafted, are also suited to a half back or a back pocket position. This is handy when you consider where Ward, Brown and Bizzell are at. I would say that only Brown's position is safe at this stage.

I think Craig Cameron is on top of things, last year we took young talls, this year we've had to stock up on midfielders, due to delisting a fair few. Next year will no doubt be more talls than smalls.

This is what is my overall conclusion of Jace Bode....

Jace Bode, 18 y.o, 186cm, 85kg
Bode was very unlucky to not be drafted in the NAB draft but I would say he is a certainty to be drafted as a rookie. Lots of people have questioned his pace, he has good pace when he chases opponents the only reason his pace is questioned is because when he gets the ball he does not burst with speed, he tends to slow down and try to spot up a player rather than run with the ball. He has great skills by hand and foot and has the ability to play both inside and outside. He is good at tackling, he really throws them down hard.

He's related to Matthew Bode right? And I don't really see an issue in the KPP stocks, considering how we have about 13 or 14 talls available, future looks bright

Pretty much agree with that.
I know our KP stocks are looking a bit worrying, but realistically down back we've got Carroll, Rivers and Fergy as our main starting three tall backs with Nicho as backup, and Holland and Miller as pinch hitters, and up forward we have Neita who is the only real worry with Miller at CHF, Robbo can play FF at a big pinch and Holland can play FF at a pinch as well.
Then we've got Smith, Dunn and Newton being groomed for the next few years. I don't think they are that bad. Plus Warnock as well
The midfield is the most important part of a team anyway and I'm happy that CC has focused on it in the last few years. I'm more worried about the ruck than any other position ATM and I'm really hoping Jamar or PJ can stand up next year.

No relation. His last name is pronounced differently too. It is pronounced like bo-dee. The commentators will no doubt get it wrong.

Bodey is a good player, hate to see him leave sturt but teh AFL beckons...will play alot with sandy tho so dont expect too much from him yet...good accurate left foot and hard as nails and phys. ready to play at the next level.
