You never know mate broughton was like pick 72 in the rookie draft last year...its very very slim but you can get gems late on...on the other hand newton has 0% chance of becoming a player who can contribute to our side.

This is the issue with not committing to delisting someone now.
If we are relying on Hawthorn taking Meeson (and I think this would be a much worse outcome than delisting Newton), there is no way Hawthorn would tell us until they draft him, thus meaning that we have to use our first rookie pick on an existing rookie player and not a fresh faced excitement machine that we might have been able to beat other clubs to until we know that we have a spot.
Unless a club actually commits to drafting one of our rookies, we are not taking full advantage of our position in the rookie draft, which however you look at it, should be a place where young, risky, potentially freaky players can be warehoused, worked with and assessed to see if they can make the AFL grade. NOT for older players we already know cant play at that level (Newton).
Just a shame, as I reckon there will be one ‘risky’ prospect still there when we have our first pick that we would like to run with, and it looks as though we wont be able to take that chance.
Imagine we were in this position with Aaron Davey available as he was years ago……..
