Well since VB will probably be put on the long term injury list who would you think would get elevated if that were to happen?
Personally for me James Battersby, had great SANFL performances

Love Charlie however the Big Ruckman for me.......

Smack needs to feel some heat and it's not going to come from Angus

I think Knight, Cameron and Battersby will fight it out.

Knight's afl level fitness will work in his favour.

Cameron has played senior footy and plays a style which doesn't need a lot of body weight.

Battersby has also played senior footy at a good standard and he is physically well developed. The thing working against him would be fitness.

I was at training the other day and the boys had to split up into groups. All the rookies and new draftees were in the one group. It was a running drill at the end of training, where they had to run about 200m, then wrestle, then run again, then do push ups and it went on and on. Riley Knight clearly led the way but after that it went Kelly (who just overtook M.Crouch in the last few metres), followed by Spina, then Battersby and then Osborn. For some reason Cameron wasn't doing it. Crouch was coming 2nd for most of it. He looked absolutely spent but he kept pushing. He showed real mental toughness. The others didn't look as spent, but he willed himself to finish top 3.

Battersby's only weakness at this stage (other than height) appears to be fitness. But that'll come.

Knight was drafted in the National Draft, hence he is already on the senior list.

Battersby for me. Think Charlie Cameron will need a few years to develop, whereas Battersby had some decent games at senior level.

Perhaps already been told that he's being elevated, therefore no longer hanging with the pleb rookies doing pleb rookie drills?

:D

Of course, what was I thinking?

Jack Osborn also really struggled with the running drill I mentioned above. Although most big blokes do.

It will be interesting to see who they play in the nab cup or whatever they have replaced it with this year. Might see an upgrade after.

Realistically, we are in no position to even guess right now. Those first couple of pre-season games will give us a much better idea.

The most likely outcome is no rookie being elevated. At present we have massive competition for positions in the R1 team (you try naming one and see which players you have to leave out). We only have 2 players who are definitely unavailable due to injury (Tex & VB).

Historically, the club doesn't elevate rookies unless & until they are going to be selected. They don't elevate them for the sake of elevating them - doing so has salary cap implications. Right now there is no pressing reason to elevate any of the rookies, so that's what's likely to happen - none of them will be elevated.

Things may change down the track, as the season progresses and our injury list grows.

Unless one player has an exceptional NAB series, you'd have to imagine the club won't upgrade anyone unless injuries demand it.

On that basis, I'd say Osborne is the most likely candidate, since he really only has one or two ahead of him. Still, Battersby and Cameron have an opportunity coming up very soon to prove they're ready to go and leapfrog him.

I would have thought so.

What if sauce is hurt? Then we need to be able to elevate Osborne.

Pretty much, we'll leave it open until one of them wins the spot, or we need a fix off the rookie list for some hole in the squad.

If Sauce gets an 8+ week injury, then Osborn (no E) gets the elevation. If the injury is 2-3 weeks, then Gus gets a game.

Don't leave Otten out though. This board will eat you. My current stab has Petrenko, Mackay and Porps among others playing at Prospect in round 1.

Agree with the rest of your post. Cameron and Battersby the most likely on the basis that they have played senior league footy, but you'd think a rookie would need to make a serious impression in the pre-season games to be talking a round 1 elevation.
