Surprised nobody has posted about this allegation, about telling Mcveigh not to kick a goal, against the Hwks in the first round of the Afl,lets make some money,pre-season cup! Roosey is obviously being sarcastic,as in Macveigh,
not a noted goal kicker, is being told to have a go. Not that it mattered as the Hawks kept control of the ball until the siren. All because some hitler rent
an official, decided that we "tanked" the game!
What does everyone think about this allegation?

Its obvious Roos doesnt care for the nab cup, perhaps nab is getting upset his blatant disregard for the competition is bad for thier business and puting the heavy on Dimetrio.

i've been looking for a suitable thread to post this one thought i'd had on the sponsor business

NAB sponsors the preseason cup, which we're told is fair dinkum and its integrity must be protected
NAB also sponsors this thing called the NAB Challenge (otherwise why would NAB allow its name to be carried???), yet everyone knows there's no integrity at all, or any issue that there should be, in this practice series
so i'd have thought any link to protecting the integrity of the competition for the sake of its sponsor is spurious at best, and generally just absolute rubbish
that this farcical incident has gotten this far is more an indication of how desperate the AFL, and in particular its figurehead, are obsessed with control issues, and to a lesser extent a personal issue with Roos

Their is no integrity in the pre season practice match competition so why the should a team that has demonstrated a strong focus to not tank and not play for draft picks become the first side for an integrity investigation by the AFL.

Just read something today on the Sydney Morning Herald, and according to McVeigh he never heard Roosy telling him to 'not kick a goal'.

And I'm all for tanking the NAB cup! As long there isn't serious injuries, and that our younger players, who have a small chance in playing in the H&A season, have opportunities to play at a higher level than usual.

while i agree the nab is crap, because why would you have a PRE SEASON COMP. that has different rules to the normal season.
the nab might rip off it's customers with fees, but it still puts back a lot of money into junior footy and auskick.
i have no doubt we could have won that game, but who would want to.
at the end davis, o'keefe and mattner were off if we really wanted to win we would have.
what a masterstroke to put mcveigh back on not to kick a goal.

It was reported that on several occasions that day the swans played up to a minute with only 17 men while we made interchanges. This would suggest to me that Roos not only wasn't serious about winning but probably really didn't want the side to win at all. I wouldn't at all be suprised if he did tell McVeigh not to kick a goal and I fully support him if that was the case.

These games are practice matches and nothing more. If the AFL want to try and build them up to be something else then good luck to them but they can't expect teams to jeopordise their preperation just so they can make a few extra $$$.

Pfft. Like McVeigh couldkick a goal if he tried anyway
Yeah it's McVeigh's fault. If he had kicked straight last year none of this would've happened.

If the AFL were serious about this issue and not going the man than they would be bringing us into the equation and getting a "Please Explain" from Leigh Matthews for not even bothering to coach in the opening round!

Here's proof that the AFL are only interested in making an example of Roosy.

Go Roosy - tell them they're dreamin'!!!!

Every time Demetriou has a crack at Roos, he comes out looking more stupid. So he has a bigger angrier crack the next time, and looks even more stupid as a result. It's not often almost every Victorian journo backs a Sydney position, but it seems so in this case. Stick to administering the game, Demetriou, stop trying to control how it is played.

What an absolute joke that Roosy has to even front the AFL committee or whoever it is, tomorrow. Liked his response, well maybe we shouldn't have betting on the NAB cup.

Hope he sticks it up the control freaks that are at AFL headquarters.

There's a really nice Chip Le Grand piece in the Australian about this. It's really critical of the AFL but it basically plays down the personal Demetriou vendetta angle and suggests that now we have non-footballing lawyers in the AFL (ie Anderson), things tend to be done according to a formal process (including ridiculous threats to ban someone from the game if found guilty) rather than being settled quietly with a "wtf were you thinking Roosy?" "get down and give me ten" phone-call. It makes sense to me, the AFL just look like oafish buffoons acting this way, not to mention dragging a guy's hard-won reputation for integrity through the mud.

They believe all that crap despite beating us because they flooded (we are hopeless in attack when the opposition floods).

And we still kicked more goals on average than them (on average) last year!

I didn't write it. Im pies thru and thru but i have no beef with sydney as my cousin played there. still, was good beating you 3 times last year!!

You didn't write it, you have no beef with the Swans but you think someone who does have a beef with us "sums it up nicely". It's true what everyone says about Collingwood supporters.

SYDNEY Swans coach Paul Roos has been cleared of match-fixing or breaching any AFL rules at a NAB Cup game against Hawthorn this month.

The investigation by Justice John Winneke has cleared Roos of any breach of AFL rules and regulations.

Roos could have been suspended indefinitely and fined up to $100,000 if found guilty.

The probe on comments made by Roos in the final stages of the match against Hawthorn on February 17 is now shut.
