But I have faith in McVeigh, he is turning 23 this April and still a pretty young age. Possibly the age where he'll turn around and become a vital player for us. He reminds me a bit of Buchanan, who was only 23 back in 2005 and boy did we see a change in Buchanan's performance.

FM0226, yes your right, Playfair did play CHB for the VFL. But you all have to remember he was fightin for that position with Egan (who was All Australian CHB) Play him at CHB and give (a fit) LRT a go in the forward line. He will be an asset for us, not to mention Marty M. I was already a fan of his when he was at Adelaide.
It's gunna be good to see Leo, Marty, Malceski and Kenally all streaming out of the backline at the SCG.

Surely your not serious? LRT has got no idea about playing up forward. I've seen him play there a few times and he's been average at best. He's more mobile than Playfair hence he should remain in defence and Playfair should be used in attack.

you're bang on here, LRT is far more mobile, has been slowly learning the ropes as a central defender and, fully fit, and with continued development WILL BE one of our key players at CHB over the next 5 years or so

i would play playfair in the forward line simply because he will take the opposititons 2nd or 3rd best defender. that will free up a player like ROK, MAGIC or DAVIS.
but in saying that some of you would probably think that LRT could do that as well! to me he is better suited at CHB, yes because he is more mobile than playfair, but the fact is he strengthens the sides spine (i dont no how but he just does) also the swans seem to use LRT as their switch of the play target and he generally does well at that role (except when he fumbles)

nothing's ever gonna stop leo doing that, which is why he's a liability as a KP defender and must be played on a flank or in a pocket
LRT is gonna be a star
as for playfair, i think the rest of the competition knows enough about him to suggest they're not gonna waste 2nd or 3rd defenders on him, not yet anyway
micky o, davo and definitely ROK, when he's up in the forwards, are far more dangerous
but let's hope playfair does step up, maybe i can be proven wrong on him too

I think one of the spoilt stuff we have as swans fans is he is not playing for Lastmond or Carltank he would probably look a lot better in that lot..... Garlick went on to do well with dogs almost got to p'ship 97 and that year IIRC was close to runner up B& F

that's a hackneyed comment....we'd all like to be good enough, or have been good enough, to maybe get to play footy at that standard
unfortunately, we're stuck with what we are, and we're left to stand and watch, to cheer and jeer, and admire or criticise what we see
anonymity be damned, you don't like it you don't need to participate in any online forums, or even go online at all

what's worse, however, is to actually HAVE the talent of a bolton or, dare i say it, a mcveigh (yes, obviously he has some ... somewhere) and to squander it once you've been given the chance, or earned the chance to play at afl level
certainly, the one thing the average fan can believe he/she has in the same amounts as an afl player is heart, or character
and what REALLY pisses me off is to see the likes of mcveigh (jude bolton certainly has heart), week in week out, fail to show the required heart or character or desire to make the most of the obvious football skills he must have shown at some point of his career, to have been drafted No 5

Some of the key aspects to come out of the interview include;

- Expect Hall and Kennelly to be better in '08. Hall definately available for Round 1 of season proper.

- Same principles in place in terms of style of play, basics of the game the same.

- Malceski, Mattner, Kennelly on a wing at certain times, alternating between half back.

- Playfair up forward.

- More outside run with the introduction of Barlow and Mattner.

- Need to improve on skills, turnovers killed us in '07.

- Jude Bolton has had a terrific pre-season and will play more on ball this year.

around the time of the mattner trade, crows fans on their board were voicing disgust at the coaching decision to play mattner in defence, said it cost him his place at the club, basically
they were largely of the opinion he should never have been moved from wing into defence, so i'd reckon, based on that, he'll be tried on a wing with us first

Kennelly = knee problem, not ankle.

Hall = knee to start with (round 2) but then variety of other ailments. A groin problem was probably the most significant. Let's hope he didn't go to the same surgeon as Judd for the same "quick fix". (Actually have no idea whether their injuries were in any way similar.)

Barlow = confidence player. Let's hope that he can keep the self-belief and not go into his shell. The worst game he played of the four was his second, and in many ways it impressed me the most. Pretty much every time he touched the ball, a clanger followed - either him getting caught in possession, or a dud disposal, or just an unlucky bounce of the ball. Didn't help that the team was getting pounded by Collingwood. Yet despite upwards of a dozen clangers he was still chasing the ball late in the game, when it would have been so easy for him to go and hide, to move to places where he knew he couldn't mess up again.

Mattner = my reading of Crow fans woes was that he was being asked to be a defensive back pocket, rather than a rebounder. I don't think it matters much whether he ostensibly starts on a flank or a wing - players run so far up and down the ground nowadays that I doubt it makes much difference. What is important - and what he was recruited for - is to add more dash in the up the ground. I'm looking forward to seeing how quickly he fits in.

He's a dirty coward. He might kick a few goals against us every game. But the stuff he does off the ball just shows how much of a dirty coward that bogan is.
