LOL are you for real !!Port would literally not be meeting the salary cap floor for next year without Atkins’ contract being on the books.
The salary cap is going up $2m, and we just lost Houston, Dixon and McKenzie without getting Perryman. Even adding Lukosius’ full salary wouldn’t be enough, especially when draftees have a standard contract of $130k next year. If Port was paying 100% salary cap this year it wouldn’t meet the salary floor of 95% for next year. That’s why clubs were throwing around those ridiculous offers for mediocre players like Battle, Perryman and Cumming.
So we basically have parked $400-$500k for a year because it’s an obligation for us to do so. It’s what we did with Matthew Lobbe when we traded him to Carlton.
Lol, if you are struggling to meet the cap, just do what the Crows & other clubs do regularly... extend the contracts of your best talent & front load their contracts.Port would literally not be meeting the salary cap floor for next year without Atkins’ contract being on the books.

Yeah, but you're talking about a side that hasn't made finals in 7 years vs one that has made top four in 4 of the past 5. List management gets harder the closer to a winning a premiership you get. See how Adelaide completely ****ed up their list going in 2018 with the ridiculous contracts you gave to Sloane and Jenkins et al.Lol, if you are struggling to meet the cap, just do what the Crows & other clubs do regularly... extend the contracts of your best talent & front load their contracts.
Apparently we only received Pick 29 from Gold Coast because we took Atkins on. Again, there's a difference between clubs like Fremantle and Gold Coast dealing with Richmond who they don't see as competing with the for a finals spot and ultimately a flag in the near future...and Collingwood and Gold Coast dealing with Port, who both teams beat in 2024 and they would look at as being one of the few clubs that played finals that they could theoretically replace in the eight in 2025.What is staggering is you didn't get a trade discount for taking Atkins on. Should have only given up a F2 instead of F1 for 2 salary dumps by the Suns.

Best 38 maybeis he best 18?
They really want to atone for their SANFL spoon this year.So the dust has settled a little, What did Port Adelaide gain for taking on a near 500k a year SANFL player? No Will Brodie/Jack Bowes Suns deal? Still as baffling now as when I first read it.

So what did you get for Houston?Pick 29 apparently.
Though how the deal without that pick was even being considered is an absolute mystery.
