I agree both Laird and Brown, for the most part, fared better with the ball in hand than restricting their opponents goal scoring output. They both had good and bad games in that respect and Laird more so than Brown needs to work on his positioning a bit.
In saying all that I think they were both pretty unlucky this season with the amount of turnovers and quick rebounding the opposition seemed be able to constantly execute with ease. This allowed them to be caught out easily and gifted many more goals to the small forwards than they deserved.
You would have to be blind to not notice that they both have strong 1 on 1 capabilities. It has been rare the last few seasons that everyone is confident in our small defenders going into the future. So that says something.
