Obviously alot is going to change between now and round 1 but i thought it would be good to post our guesses at the starting line-up for Round 1 next year for the saints

FB: Dempster* Hudghton Blake
HB: Gram Fisher Ray
C: Goddard Hayes Dal Santo
HF: Armitage Riewoldt Schneider
FF: Milne Koschitzke McEvoy (hopefully)
R: King Montagna Ball
INT: Gilbert Baker* Jones Raph Clarke

EMG: Allen McQualter X Clarke

Others: Maguire* Gwilt Eddy

hope i didnt miss anybody,
post up what you think the team will be for round 1

Getting in early...

B: R. Clarke Hudghton Blake
HB: Gilbert Fisher Baker
C: Montagna Ball Gram
HF: Dal Santo Riewoldt X. Clarke
F: Milne Koschitzke Schneider
R: King Hayes Goddard

Int: Armitage Birss McEvoy Ray

notes:
- Goose and probably Dempster are best 22 players, but won't return in time
- Goddard on ball, made the position his own
- If Gilbert and Raph continue their form from the end of the season, we can afford to play Gram in the middle to make us faster through there. Ray helps in this area as well
- I'm confident Baker will be back, very important player
- Bench could be anyone really, pending NAB cup form
- Cousins would come straight in

We need the NAB cup first to help decide our best 22.
What I have not heard is how Maguire is progressing. I would hope he is ready for pre-season training, otherwise I wouldn't expect much from him next year. Anyone know?

NAB cup side.

Geary , Gilbert, Attard
Raph , Maguire, Baker
Eddy, Ball, Ray
Steven, S Fisher, Kosi
Milne , Allen, Gwilt

F Jones , Armitage , M Gardiner
B Armitage, X , Miles, Kosi

He's semi training, had nerve damage & scar tissue which got fixed up and then he visited 3 specialists to get the OK to start strength training and such, so he seems to be progressing nicely if lightly. I doubt he'll get a full preseason, probably start off on a limited program, but in the interview he did for the saints central site he basically said he was back training in some capacity and playing lawn bowls.

I hope this team is pretty close, although IMO Armo, Steven, Raph, Geary will be competing with Allen, Eddy, Attard , Miles for a game.

However, even if Maguire is suitable as a forward ( and I'm not sure why we think he is ) I don't think he would start there after coming back from his injuries.

If i was Rossco i would name this side the thursday before our 1st game....

Fiora, Fiora, Fiora

Going by that team your either very confident that we will get Cousins or you have some inside info. the rest of us aren't aware of.

Anyway I pretty much agree with that team but would probably start Cousins and Kosi on the ground with Armitage and Allen on the bench. Obviously if Maguire is fit I would squeeze him in somewhere too.

The talk is - if Goose is not right for round 1, he will not be right for the year. He hasn't had a full pre-season in close to 3 years, and coming from a full year out of football, he would need to be fit.

The club are putting a lot of time and faith into having him right for round 1, so lets hope !! Centre-Half-Back Goose !!

Free up Fisher to run around and win the Brownlow !!!

I hope Jayden Attard will be escalated again, he was fantastic in 2007, and would be great support to Baker in shut down roles.

Armitage will hopefully be a full time senior player next year, was a good pinch hitter this year, and I think with another pre-season in the gym under his belt, he could match it with the best out there.

B: R.Clarke Hudghton S.Gilbert
HB: Ray Maguire S.Fisher
C: Gram Hayes Dal Santo
HF: Aritmage Riewoldt Schneider
F: Milne Allen Koschtizke
Foll: Gardiner/King Goddard ball
INt: Baker Cousins/Blake
Jones Montanga

* Love to see maguire out there. Ray will free up Gram and bj to give us more run through the middle. Cousins would come straight in and baker if fit give us some more hardness in the middle. not sure whether to take gardiner or king, saw gardiner played down at casey and he turned back the clock and Allen is good leading forward and provide us good structure up forward

B: R.Clarke Hudghton Baker
HB: Ray Maguire S.Fisher
C: Gram Hayes Dal Santo
HF: Armitage Riewoldt Schneider
F: Milne Koschtizke Montagna
Foll: M Gardiner Godddard Ball
Int: King Gilbert Cousins/Blake C Gardiner

Unlucky: Allen, McEvoy, Birss, Steven

Put Gilbert on the bench and Baker in for some variety, Allen not ready just yet, give Kosi another crack at FF for a bit. Expect M Gardiner to get a full preseason and be raring to go, C Gardiner in there for forward rotations,
