AFL Autopsy Round 10: 15 Point Loss To Richmond

Our midfield is so slow on the spread once it's gets out that's needs to be the focus at draft and trade periods this year.
Yep. I am firmly in the "get Martin" camp.
Pace, strength and a massive kick, who can kick goals. That one from the goalsquare is exactly what we need. awareness and footy nous.

Should look at Wigg from Adelaide too. Body is ready. Has pace and a lovely kick. And will come cheap. Good second addition after Martin.

I think that's the 609845th time you've mentioned Wigg.

Maybe people should wrote to JW and suggest Hooker should play in defense ? It would be very revealing info and helpful.

I'd certain posters did that they may find it easier to stop repeating it on here ad nauseum like nobody is aware of their "thoughts" on the matter.
If we moved him back Hartley would have to go forward.
Don't want to mess with our forward or backline. Need to get the midfield right. They are Jekyll and Hyde when it comes to effort.
Pressured a lacklustre Geelong and pounced on a poor West Coast.
Got the ruck dominance against a single trick Tigers side (Martin) and plodded it up.

Ill forgive the 4pts from Carlton given the conditions
Adelaide are the league standard and we played them at home
Freo in WA on a warm arvo and a short break....ok

The Tigers and Dees games are unforgivable. They were losses based on effort, not skill.
We should be top 4. We deserve to be where we are.

So many times we turned the ball over from a kick off HB with our players streaming forward which gave richmond their 20 other inside 50s. I watched and cannot remember any essendon team in 40 years turn the ball over like that. It killed us. Some under pressure a hell of a lot of them we were not. Just poor poor disposal. Bit of dew on the ball and we fall to pieces. Every one is ragging on hooker for dropping marks he certainly wasnt the only one. Poor performance. I cannot believe how badly we played. I cannot believe we only lost by 15 points. Put it behind us and worry about next week

Cmon

I haven't read any of the previous posts in here for 2 reasons.

1. I am heavily hungover and
2. 90% of this board are shit whiners after a loss

I will say this though, whatever your thoughts on Richmond are or were, they are a very good team this year. They had a couple of bad losses and we all laughed but one was against GWS at their home ground and Freo who smashed us a week before. We ran right with them until 5mins to go where they got on top, it could have also been a lot worse if they kicked a bit straighter.

We desperately need to work on getting the ball inside 50m more often, we get smashed in this every week. Good kicking in the first 3 quarters kept us in it until Tigers got right on top.

Now continue on fighting over who the worst Essendon player of all time was on the field last night, I'm going back to not using my brain.

they work hard. i would have them behind a number of teams in terms of quality, but quality means little if you don't bring the intensity and desire to win
Props to Hardwick. They give unquestionable effort. I wish we were like that.

Your logic is to move Hooker "just because we can"?

Most people believe that both the defence and forward line are the least of our problems so why tamper with it?

Just because we can just doesn't cut it.
Obviously went into a little more detail than that, not just because we can. We have the weapons to be able to when plan A isn't working out. Was more my point.

The game was painful to watch after the first 3 goals and a few patches here and there.

It wasn't a complete waste though. McGrath was awesome, so was Hurley.

I was very happy to see TBell have an ok day. Since he changed his number to 2 he's had a bad run with injuries and ofc the suspension. I would like to see him have another week.

Colyer had the reverse Midas touch. Myers and Watson wasn't much better. A bad day in the office but let's see how they respond.

Just because we can. Not many teams have an AA defender playing full forward. McGovern gets shifted around the ground as required. If he's not having an influence up one end you've got nothing to lose throwing him back for a quarter. Everyone's obsessing over the structure.

Not screaming for the game plan to be scrapped ffs just get Hooker behind the ball if it's not going in there so he can at least duke a couple out in front and get the hands warm. Instead of standing in there all night then when he does get a chance, he scrubs it because he aint took a mark since the warm up. Some of ya'll whack need to check ur logic... "BUT WHATABOUT THE STRUCTURE YOU'LL **** UP THE STRUCTURE" give it a rest.

The ball is going in enough for JD to have 29 goals and we are scoring well compared to the last few years - Your thoughts are just random thoughts without and supporting evidence - No wonder you post structure.

Geez Caro really hates Dusty

Nah - Rance was clearly the best player on the ground - He put on a clinic of how to be a defensive general - Rance was outstanding - Martin was good, but not outstanding.

As far as I'm concerned this another game we let slip it's not like Richmond out played us all game we still could have won the game with 5 mins to go. we will be ruing the losses to Carlton,Melbourne,Richmond for the rest of the season.

Richmond outplayed us for 3 quarters, blew a heap of easy goals and should have won by 5 goals - you're kidding yourself.

Nah that's just bollocks. The comp is so even any loss is only about effort.

You're underselling bother Richmond and participate Melbourne by saying we only lost to them because we didn't try hard enough.

Wrong. They are good teams too and have as much claim to be good as we do

Great post. Couldn't agree more. I've read maybe 15 of the 495 posts in this thread because I can't ****ing handle bipolar entitled goldfish memory self-flaggelating bullshit that is inevitable after a loss.

Had we kicked 3 more goals it would be scarcely any better. We'd be world beaters and Richmond would be useless scum not fit to lick our asses.

Thinking maybe I need to quit the club board entirely
