Prediction Round 10 Changes vs. Essendon

The coach spoke in his press conference about how he chatted with Pearce after the game and said he was fine. I guess that is what he would be expected to say. Likely precautionary but significant enough soreness to warrant scans.
Hopefully nothing too serious. Frustrating for him that these injuries are contact/force rather than soft tissue. Should rest him for next week and even St Kilda.
Be cherry ripe for Brisbane in 22 days time

Ahhh Johnno, 2 steps forward, 1 step back. He was legitimately terrible last night (and I thought he wasnt as bad as made out last week). Hopefully it's a case of being sick or whatever Voss had (who bounced back nicely).

I really really think they need to give Pearce a break for this game, that's about the only change I'd make
Yep,
Johnno on thin ice but I'm not making any changes unless forced or the medics think someone should rest.

Poor choice of words here considering he's going for a scan. I'm blaming you if anything shows up.

It’s McVee or Worner.
McVee is the odd one out. Play Walker now before running into Brisbane in Round 12. He ll be on Cameron. Need a lock down small defender.

McVee is that lock down defender. He was fine apart from that handball, and even then Cox could still have bailed him out. If clean ball with an open 50 is allowed, then the elite small forwards will get off the chain and Walker won't do any better than McVee. It is all reliant on what happens up the field ... see the second half, where all Watson could muster was a couple of difficult shots from the boundary.

One more negative from that game, Luke Ryan was obliterated by whoever he played on. I'm not sure he halved, yet alone won a single aerial contest. Assuming Davies comes in for Pearce regardless of that scan, he'd do well to play his best footy. There is a best 23 spot for him if he's good enough

It's a shame that Draper isn't banging the door down - I'd love for him to eventually replace Ryan.

What shits me, is why wouldn’t he ice it? Reduce swelling, speeds up recovery.
Maybe he thought it was the same soreness as he gets after every game but this morning woke up with it feeling different. Hope it’s nothing too bad. We need our captain fantastic

I agree, although Ryan has had some good games this year too so I'm not ready to rule a line through him, the desperation he shows just feels built for finals footy.

In the last he ended up matched against Ramsden a couple of times which was semi comical in terms of height difference, second only to when MCox came off the field and Dudley came on, we were commenting we should have been allowed 2 Dudley's.

With a bit of a shuffle, Walker or a small defender could take the spot.

Against lower teams or where we have high pressure and they bomb it long he looks a million dollars. I am not sure his style of play holds up well against the better teams.

After the Collingwood game where Johnson was the match winner, I thought this might be the confidence booster and moment it all clicked for him to take the next level....

Every match since, he has progressively gotten worse, where last night he was practically invisible and given quite a lot of opportunities in the centre where he didn't get a touch and was just chasing his opponent all night who was getting into better positions.

5 years in the system, 80 games under his belt. Still making the same dumb mistakes he has always done from the start and has no consistency in his output from one game to the next.

JLo has backed this guy something shocking, he needs to start repaying the faith.

Teams doing great, does that mean we continue to carry individuals who aren't performing?

He needs a spell in the WAFL to build consistency and get his confidence up.

Johnson out

2 bad games, yeah I think we'll back MJ in especially if the replacement options are proven plodders at this level like O'Driscoll.

This year maybe....but if you add Ed Allen/Riley Hardeman to the mix..would love MJ and Mcvee to have those two nipping at their heels and keeping them honest next year...

NOD is not up to the level that much is clear, same as sharp, think you can confidently rule those guys out going forward. JOM would be the one to come in if anyone at this point. think i prefer MJ all things considered though

Johnson had broken tackles last night and the week prior his tackles were too reckless, so hopefully he'll find the medium this week. It looked like he was at a couple of centre bounces in the last quarter.

His fumbles and 2nd efforts were bad too.
Looked gassed very early.

We’ve had a pretty tough run.
Back to back wet games in Adelaide. 3x 6 day breaks. Boys must be cooked.

But yeah, Johnson’s been disappointing last 2 weeks

Unfortunately, there was no match up for him. Far too slow to play on Gunston or Watson and too short for any of their talls. Also, you think after so many years of the team changing strategy for clearances, forward line, ruck, etc that we would have developed an alternative to Ryan just kicking to a mass pack after every point is scored.

Switta, Erasmus, Johnson (but he has been good v Pies).
Switta and Erasmus could be dropped on form imo.
Scerri & Sharp replacements

McVee already has Walker and Banfield behind him. Both would get games in a lot of teams.

Thought McVee was looking good prior to having his week off. Wasn't his best game last night. He'll come good.

Reality is JL will keep the better player in because of what they can do until it's obvious the out of form player isn't improving and the player that isn't normally as good would is seen as more likely to play a good game.

Think if JOM was available Johnson might be in some trouble tbh.

Some harsh words from a few re The Rhino, that would have been his worst game in purple. Yep he wasn't good, but talking dropping him is unintelligent.
Gunston has torn many backs to pieces this season. They left the forward line free of players, makin it a one on one contest. There would be few FBs that would win that battle with those conditions.
