Three of four of those MCG games are from before 2000. The record is basically irrelevant IMO

We've beaten them there quite a few times in Melbourne just on the other side of town.
Just so 82...
Wretched silly use of stats, we'll gut and filet them and enjoy a blast on the Gee!
Why not? Why not?

Most. Frustrating. Game. Ever.

We missed finals basically because that game too. Pretty sure I was calling for us to sack JL after that game - like just because of that game.

And yes, I've been critical of slow ball movement under JL and said we needed to move him on but that day was a level I barely get to. Generally keep comments like that on here for Monday to Friday when my emotions are more in check.
Should have sacked him then!
Look at the state we're in now!

True, but that was also a long time ago.

  • Essendon then won six straight Victorian meetings from 2010–2021.
  • Fremantle broke that streak with a 48-point win at Docklands in 2022.
  • Essendon won the latest Victorian clash by 1 point at the MCG in 2024.
I've been to lots of freo losses against Essendon where we've been favourites.

Bombers somehow smashed Melbourne and got extremely close to Suns on their deck and GWS on their deck. Getting smashed by Brisbane isn't a surprise, lions will do that to most non finalists, but the Collingwood smashing was unforgivable.

Our biggest margin away from home is 12 points, which was supposed to be against an injured doggies team that we supposedly were going to smash.

In no way am I talking us down, just saying this will be a lot closer than people think.
Sophisticated? use of stats...but no thanks,
Ongoing "form" has us as favourites...why not?

Missing a few best 23 players is pretty standard stuff for every team in this sport. We only drop this if the whole team have been busy drinking their own bathwater and inhaling each others farts all week. Looks like NOD, Scerri and McDonald are the ins. I always thought the order of players named on the extended bench was a clue. Could be wrong.

More important to get the win and back it up against the Saints next week rather than going too hard for percentage with a 5 day break to follow.

Not ideal losing Young especially but there's more than enough quality left in starting 23 to get it done provided they're switched on.

Definitely another classic Freo banana peel game but the team has largely ticked these sorts of fixtures off over the last 12 months. The Dons are capable of stringing together some decent patches of footy and the conditions will make it a slog so it's another one of those games where I'll be happy to take the 4 points no matter how we get them.

That game was a dead set nightmare.
Along side the loss to the Dees when close to 60 points in front just prior to 1/2 time.

Interesting that Simpson didn't even get named on the extended bench with Wags out. The club really don't have him in their sights at th moment.

He's had 1 good game at Peel for the year, needs to stack a month of good footy together to be looked at.

I hate to say it, but I smell an upset this weekend.
Good news is that I've said that atleast 5 times this season, and we've won all 5 of those games.

We seem to thrive in those backs against the wall sort of game, when we're up against a good side, or on a short break we seem to rise to the challenge.

I feel the extended break and coming up against a weak side could go against us funnily enough, I think the key players for them we need to shut down/Limit their impact is Caddy and Durham, and make sure our wings play accountable as Duursma is one I could see playing a major role in them getting up if he gets space on the outside.

Heart says Fremantle by 70,
Head says Bombers overcome a slow start and win by 8 points, Caddy to kick 4, Durham to have 25 and a goal, Redman to have 25 off half back.
This game to me screams $50 anti bet on the Bombers.

We really need to find a spot for him in the team. Even if all he offered was distribution off half back he would be such a weapon ala Zorko

Zorko gets it 25 times a game at AFL level. Simpson gets it 15 times a game at WAFL level. I like Cooper but the great thing about being top 2 is that young players need to bang the door down to get a game. He hasn't done that yet.

I agree with mike91 and others that this is a bit of a danger game, particularly with the weather likely to narrow the gap in quality between the two sides.

If we play to the general level we have shown throughout the season so far (and barring any bad luck on the day with injuries, horrendous umpiring etc) we should get the win.

I’ll be happy with the 4 points, minimal injuries/knocks and preferably not needing to expend energy until the final siren to get over the line in a close one. Even if that means it’s not a percentage boosting win (dare I say it!).

Why is every game a danger game when we are playing well?
our last 12 months suggests well win the game, but even if we lose, a blip on the radar is not the end of the world. we know how we stack up now and i reckon we have most of our game in order and losing the odd game wont be the end of the world.

in saying that we genuinely may go undefeated from here on out.

(the rest of you guys ****ing suck at enjoying being the best team in the comp bloody hell get some confidence in you)

Just got back from overseas with patchy interwebs so not up with it atm. Do i read right that NOD is in but Sharp not? Even after that period for Peel, then coming and kicking 2 goals only to be put back out by the returning McVee? Also, heard we got across the line against Hawks. May have to watch the replay.
