I have nothing of substance to add to this thread but gee I like the happy banter in autopsy threads when the saints win.
Sorry to disappoint you Cowboy 🤠 but that had some substance to it.
Have another go.

If the afl are petty and vindictive enough to **** us over with a shit draw then they’re petty and vindictive enough to go at us with the umpires. And it shows.

Clark had his best match for a while. I’ve never doubted his ability, but he can take a few weeks to get up and going. He has a skill set that few others on our list possess. Classy, tough and can create opportunities. Happy for him as he deserves a good run at it.

Fairly even performance and contributors across the board. We had a lot of uncontested possessions, matched them on the inside and our goal efficiency probably won us the match.

Probably the most valuable learning to come out of that game. I'd written him off - even on a small sample - but if he can regularly produce what he did yesterday, it is a game changer for Saints.
I think a lot of supporters make the same mistake when judging a young player, especially the tall ones, they judge them based on output. Aside from the absolute prodigies, judge them on the way they move. It's getting even worse given that so many young players now are coming into the game almost ready to go due to the evolution of the talent pathways. But at the base of it all, these are barely more than adolescent boys moving into competing with seasoned men, and I think a lot of people lose sight of that fact.

The smaller guys in some cases are ready to go, or close to it, but the taller kids are not. they haven't finished growing, and forget body mass and muscle definition, simple joint strength and endurance are below the level of those they are competing against! But one thing that is genetic and cannot be trained is movement, by which I mean reaction times, balance, agility and coordination - that is genetic and cannot be trained. It can be marginally improved, and certainly balance can be improved by increasing core and limb strength but watch how Keeler moves compared to say, Roma. If Keeler's ability to read the play and compete is even 75% of Roma's ability to do those things, he will be twice the player Roma is, simply because he will be physically capable of doing things that Roma cannot.

Keeler's physical traits make him something like a taller version of Hunter Clark, in terms of physical capabilities. That doesn't account for endurance and ability to read the play, but it is a huge leg up as an AFL footballer.

Didn't see the first half yesterday, just watching it now.
In the space of 5 minutes
1. Clark gets free against for a perfect technique H&S when he had first hands on the ball
2. Wilkie gets slung in a dangerous tackle, head hits the ground and he gets pinged for HTB
3. NAZ gets taken out after he has kicked it forearm to the head, not even a free kick downfield
4.Carroll lays a tackle on Chandler slinging motion, head does not hit the ground, free kick to Melbourne.

Sorry but the umpiring is cooked, and that is best case scenario. After Parnell, something more sinister may have taken place.
As gringo brilliantly pointed out, they seem to be there just to throw hand grenades occasionally but not properly officiate.
It was an appalling display yesterday.

Did anyone else want to vomit everyone Jordan Lewis referred to Melksham as 'Melky', Jesus Christ get a room.

Serious question, what's the difference between this and the bump that NWM copped?

The difference is JWeb knew how to execute old school perfectly and sent Simpkin into next week. That idiot yesterday couldn’t execute and fortunately just stunned NAS. Doubt the intent was any different - he is very fortunate he wasn’t very good at what he was trying to do.

Concussion isn't black and white. It was severe enough that NAS had to be completely checked out. Another player may have been knocked out cold. ( Paddy McCartin would have for sure ).

So unprofessional.
Even on the (very) odd occasion there actually is no commentary bias, they should not be referring to players by nicknames at all.
But it’s seriously not a good look when it’s former teammates doing it.

I agree, it's also weird when the fans do it when talking about players

Maybe Clark still has the potential to have a late run in his career like a George Hewett type. If he can get a good run at it I don’t see why not, doesn’t have many noticeable flaws other than his fitness.

Well except the part where he leaves to go to Hawthorn. ;)

If we can keep turning talls into top 10 compo picks after 8 years of service, I'll take it! We don't have a ridiculously large NGA like some, we're gonna need to bring in additional talent somehow.

Long live the top 10 compo I say.
