Not many trades left. Shithouse team (scored 1561 in Round 12 - my lowest for the season), but I'm going to pretty comfortably get into the finals of my league and would like the top-4 spot if possible.

There are a couple of better teams at the top of the table (scoring 1900+ each week) and I want to be able to beat them on a good day.

This is my first year in DT, so from some experienced players, should I...

A) fix up my backline which has King, Bradshaw and 3 cows who aren't gurranteed a game in it (potential for 5 zeroes)

OR

B) trade out Bartram (who has cashed up nicely) and montagna (who is killing me) for Ward + either Gablett or S. Thompson?

I have 5 trades left, so this is my last real trade (keeping the last 3 for injuries).

Or should I sit tight and use all of them for injuries later on?
 
Im looking at taking a gamble this week that would make my team a little unique (however everyone seems to be picking up Sammy Mitchell)

With T.Cloke out, im thinking about getting a unique forward that has proven to be a good Dt'er

Im thinking about getting Big Bad Bustling Barry or Scotty Lucas

With the Scotty Lucas trade, ill be able to get Lenny Hayes for Masten, whereas with the Bazza trade ill be able to get Sammy.

If Bazza or Scotty rip it up the last half, then ill have the edge over a few people.

What do you reckon?

I'd go Hall, picked him in my starting lineup but traded after the suspension/injury.

This weeks trades:

Bench ruck m.gardiner for renouf/goldstein?

Then using the coin to upgrade rioli to r.murphy = forward line set.

I agree with you here but, on the Lucas issue, he has only been back for a couple of weks since doing his knee, of course he isn't going to be ripping out 100's...

With your trade, if its a league win that your aiming for I'd go Rob Murphy, however if its Overall Ranking, then I'd trying to find the most Unique Elite Forward Dt'er

Assuming that you've got more coin, lets say to get Richo, but looking at the Unique ratings, its better off you getting Murphy anyway :p

And personally, I'd say get Goldstein due to the fact that Taylors injury is less serious than big Hamish

Way too sideways. That's hardly an upgrade. Maybe downgrade Tippet for some $$ and upgrade Gram to Mackie/Bock. But then that leaves your fwd bench a little dry. If you do that then pray that Morton keeps playing as well as he has to keep his spot. Only other players that will need an upgrade sooner or later are Griffen>Palmer/Kelly>Stevens in that order, look at getting Hayes in this or next week he is currently 343k and is the bargain of the season!
 
What would be the best trade out of these?

With 5 trades and $45k left, there is not much scope for upgrades here.

1: Ibbo--> $321k Defender (Mcphee/Drummond? Already have Birchall/Burg.)

2: Stevens --> Corey (already have Bartel and Ablett though...) or another gun under 415k

3: Porplyzia --> Franklin

Not really considering option 3, just putting it out there as a FWD trade.

Thoughts?
 
Easily option 2. Nick's last two games have been well below-par, we might be seeing his downfall, either way you are gaining a premium and a possible captain choice. Option 1 isn't much of an upgrade, i personally wouldn't be considering Mcphee at all,and Drummond is far too injury prone but has a massive upside, if you're going to upgrade Iboo it has to be to either Bock or Mackie depending on what your backline currently is. There just isn't alot to look at currently. Porplyzia is a keeper in my book, doesn't look like slowing down one bit. Easily option 2 :)

Besides i've seen some of your posts you clearly know what you're doing. From what i remember you're doing quite well? Just trust your own instincts, some of the people on here have absolutely no clue, not saying i do at all, but just don't take note of what some people have to say on here.

Yeah, I am doing pretty well so far... far better than I could've imagined. I'm a big footy fan, and have a decent knowledge of the game, but I just haven't played dreamteam in this format before, so there's still a lot of things I'm still trying to work out... like amount of trades to keep etc etc. One thing I have learnt is to not necessarily trade the weakest player, but the one that can net the highest point increase (taking into account $$$). I was certainly leaning towards number two myself. I guess my main concern would be then having 5 Geelong players - Milburn, Ablett, Bartell, Chappy and Ablett. I guess if they all score well it doesn't matter though. Hasn't stopped them before.

Yeah, I agree. I just try and get the best possible, taking into account the price. I'd rather have Bartel, than a player that scores 5 points less per week that nobody else has. At the end of the day it's a numbers game and working out the best combination of players to net the highest numbers regardless of who other people have.

do NOT drop franklin- a dewy, dirty night against miserly adeliade and he picks up 60! plus, a person who can get you 150 come finals time...me likey.
anyone going to downgrade to callan ward? 83k, looks a great player, but will he keep his spot

No, i don't agree with that at all.

A unique player is a player that has much less selections than another player, from the same position that average roughly the same or is capable of averaging the same. You don't compare say a Brock McLean (92 aver with 7,000 selections) with Joel Corey (105 aver with 30,000 selection), a few good examples are below:

Richardson has 18,000 selection whereas Franklin has 90,000, Richo is unique, is not a crap DTer and is not overpriced, he's the best forward around.

When i use "unique" i don't mean sacrificing points to be different. I think it's a bad time for something like this to come up because players like Kornes/Corey/Bartel are very underpriced and a hard to pass on, also Swan and Thompson (much more unique than Kornes/Corey/Bartel) are much more expensive. A few weeks ago both Swan and Thompson were around the same price and average as Kornes/Bartel/Corey when they had 10,000 selection and the others have 30,000+ selection.

They were "unique" option, weren't worse DTers than Kornes/Bartel/Corey and weren't overpriced.

It's not an easy thing to explain but there are "unique players", they make the game much more fun.
 
Okay, i have been looking at averages, and i think Scott Lucas, is a great buy right now, he averaged 88 last year and 96 the year before, he is well under 300 000 and i think it is time to buy, if anyone disagrees then please tell me why as I can't afford to make any more mistakes!
 
I really need to get rid of Tippett and N.Thompson and was thinking Tippett>Valenti and then Thompson>Riewoldt or maybe someone cheaper. I have 9 trades left and if i do the tippett trade i will have 100k in the bank if anyone has any suggestions as to what i should do that would be appreciated i would prefer a cheaper forward but am not sure who my fwd line is: Brown, Buddy, Murphy, Pav, Thomas & Rioli.

tippett is a great emergency. suppose it depends on your other reserve as there could be a better person to downgrade to upgrade thompson
 
my other fwd bencher is Henderson which would leave me very few options i do agree that tippett is a good reserve but there is no other way to get rid of thommo without trading sideways. The other thing i was thinking was that i need to also trade m.gardiner + hmac at some point in time but was willing to cop one zero this week with kreuzer on the bench if i could trade stevens and make enough money to swap McIntosh to hille/sandilands that would be alright can anyone crunch the numbers and see a way out of this? right now i got nothing.

Unique and 18,000 people owning the player? I guess it all depends on where you draw the line.

EDIT - At the start of the year I picked Thompson and Stanton for my so called "unique" picks.
One has paid off the other is starting to turn their season around.

In the end, I still think people sometimes use the word Unique to justify not picking up the best player at the best price.

Lucas has a B/E of 92, wait another week before making this decision.

You will have a better idea at how he has recovered from the knee injury.

Richo is unique for someone who is capable of scoring 100+ in the forwards. You only compare him to Franklin (90,000) and even Didak (30,000) and R.Murphy (20,000).

There isn't a line saying players under 10,000 selections are unique, as i said, a unique player for me is a player that has much less selections than another player, which is from the same position and that can average roughly the same or is capable of averaging the same.

Anyway, i like picking "unique" picks like Thompson, makes the game more enjoyable.
