It’s actually extremely common for one wing to sit defensive side of stoppage. Almost every team sets up that way. The role is skinny wing. Which is actually just wing. Usually changes whether you play fat or skinny wing based on your best attributes or even what side of the ground the stoppage is on. We have generally put the Kelly’s, heppells, setterfeilds in skinny wing, but I have also seen duursma, cox, Martin also playing it. It wasn’t a one off role for setterfeild it’s a basic midfield structure that almost every team uses.

McGrath has played it in previous seasons and everyone on here was getting on his back for slamming the ball on his boot, but that’s common for a skinny wing. Usually if you have got the ball it means it’s from a broken stoppage.

Good. He should be nowhere near defence with Menzie moving back and the return of Duursma + Redman

That’s why I’m wondering if we’ll be moving Martin mid/fwd this week given we’ve omitted Setterfield and haven’t brought in another mid.

My guess will be Cox as the sub

And very generally speaking

Kelly, Martin as part of back 7
Heppell and Duursma main wings

Stringer, caldwell, Durham and Zerrett as the 4 main cba mids with Perkins coming up a fair bit at stoppage to replace Stringer who eases forward after hes tanked




I dont think Kelly offers anything as a sub. Heppell not much either and been going too well. Menzie as part of the 3 small forwards that weve been locked into for some time now

I’m just trying to educate people on the modern football stoppage. I continued to see comments about setterfeild not playing wing when he clearly was. Just not in the way that the average fan sees and knows that position. Skinny wing can be used in a multiple of ways, defensive, attacking, freeing up a man. Sweeper was a common term used more in the midfield when it was common to move the ball out of a stoppage backwards instead of the front handballing game we see more of now.

I found it funny that you said done we don’t agree, when the post above you were saying that setterfield was dropped because of his specific role that day, when skinny wing is used in every game.

But I’m keen to move on too. I didn’t expect another reply after the Done thing

Don't love draper, goldy and Wright all playing. Particularly when all are a bit down on form.

Think we are a little slow/not agile enough with heppel, kelly, draper on the bench and 3 players returning from injury.

Still a good team and should win easily.

I maintain the only reason Wright is down on form is because he's been 2nd ruck. He hasn't figured out how to do that AND be a forward.
